Great Moments in Football

Evening Managers

My poor girlfriend had to endure me being a miserable sod all weekend as I found out that Theirry Henry was leaving Arsenal for Barcelona (although i bear no ill will to him - he has always been upfront and honest (unlike some, Mr Viera anyone?) about his future, and financially £16m for a 29yr old isnt a bad bit of business - it was an honour to have him at the club and i wish him well - im just petrified how we will cope without him. Im hoping we can afford Fernando Torres personally ,or we put our faith in either Lupoli or Berndtner.....

Anyway, she couldnt understand why i was so upset, so i tried to explain it using some moments that still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. My favourites are below, and thought it might be a good way to get to know everyone for old managers and knew alike (a previous thread was on the old FA game as i recall)

1. Kanu scoring a hattrick away at Chelsea when we were losing 2-0. I have it on a season review dvd, and the skill of the goals and the game in general were some of the best ive ever seen

2. The pride of Arsenal going a whole season unbeaten, The tense moments towards the end of the season (being behind in too may bloody games i remember!) and the bus tour outside Highbury were really special

3. David Beckhams free kick against greece to get to the World cup in the dying moments. I really thought we were done, and seing that goal go in really gets me every time - even now

4. The 2-2 draw with Argentina World Cup 98. Adams and Co keeping it together once Beckham had been sent off, and going all that way before going out on penalities against a really good Argentina side was one of the proudest (and sadest as it turned out) times of being an England supporter

5. Gazza's run, flick and shot against scotland in Euro 96. bloody brilliant! And beating Holland 4-1 - great times that summer....!

6. Beating Man Utd 1-0 at Old Trafford to win the title with a goal from Wiltord - classic

This and a hundred other reasons are why i go through the good times and bad - be interested to hear everyone elses as there was a wide range of supporters and clubs on the old Football academy

cheers

Simon

This seasons' la liga has been one of the most exciting for me for a while. Not because anyone ran away with it or even because two teams battled it out like Chelsea and United but because they kept dropping points so there were times when one of any six could have taken it on. Barcelona need Henry to put that spark back into Spanish football that will be lost from Beckham.

Liverpool coming back against AC Milan has to be one of the great games. You don't often get that wide range of emotions and high number of goals all in one cup final.

Cardiff beating Leeds 2-1 in the cup .... the shock waves caused them to begin the slide to where they are today (which is nowhere!).

No-one mentioned it yet (and believe me im no fan of Man Utd) but the champs league final against Bayern was hard not to be entertained

Teddy Sheringham and Solksjaer in the last few mins - classic match!

You and me both my friend...........................!

Still, i hear rumours that Tevez has been for talks, as have Ibrahimovic and Trezeguet ( Arsene flew to Italy)

not sure how much truth there are to any of them (or reports of Martins from Newcastle) but at least were looking for a new stiker - were short upfront

Be good to see Bertnder get some games though - he has been setting our academy (and the championship!) alight for a while now!

Hes always been true to his word - so hell see the season out id imagine

but not sure hell extend beyond that. David Dein leaving seems to have hurt him. But i know how badly he wants to win the league and Champs league with Arsenal so that make him stick around

Arsenal will probably be more determined to win the league this season with what bad comments they've had from the press and stuff.
