Managers please note, you can't do transfers by sending me a PM on here. Transfer deals need to be put on the team sheet when you send it in for a league match.
Also please note that if you're buying a player they can't be picked in your team until after that match. The easy way to remember this is, you can only use what is on your team sheet in the build up to the game. Any players who might be joining aren't there yet so can't play for you.
It is explained in the rules but a few people have had a problem with these this week so as its week 1 I thought I'd re-explain here.
How do I release players or sign free agents? You can release players using the comments section when you send in a team sheet. Just say "Release ______" and they'll be taken from your team sheet and put onto the free list.
Same as with signing them, you put "Sign Free Agent ______" in the comments section and he'll go to the best club that want him that week.
Players will start to appear on this list as soon as managers start to release older / low stat players from their squads in an attempt to reduce wage bills or to make room for purchases or youth players.
Can players play outside their stated position? No. A LM can't play CM, a CB can't play RB, and so on. If you pick two LMs instead of one and a RM, then you'll have a lop-sided midfield.

Q:-If your team only has 1 player in a stated position ie LB. If he is injured or banned how does a team select a player to play at LB? Can you name 2 RB's?
I always presumed that if you only have 1 player for a position ie LB, and they are injured - no one fills in their position - you simply will have a lop sided team
so
LB CB CB RB if you thought another RB would fill in would actually look like CB CB RB RB
Im sure FA will confirm - but thats always what i assumed
2x La Liga trophy // Sevilla 2x Spanish cup // Sevilla 1x Premiership trophy // Man City 2x English cup // Man City 2x European Cup // Man City 1x Segunda trophy // Valencia

Thats about right. If you don't have any available LBs then you won't have anyone playing LB in the game. It's up to you if you pick more than one RB but they'll still both play on the right side of defence.
Not the answer I was looking for, perhaps this is one area of the game that could be sorted out? I know its just a game but it would be nice if it was more realistic. For example some players can play in more than one position ie Jamie Carragher, his stats obviously make him a better CB, but he could fill in at RB or LB? Just a thought.
In the last version of the game I had suggested that a very small number of specialist players could be what were called in the "olden days" utility players (Paul Madeley of Leeds if anyone is old enough to remember him). Jamie Carragher would be a modern example. Their position might show CB/LB with the first position as their stronger one. LM/LB or RM/RB might be another good example of switch positions. They could show two stats for each aspect - a stronger and a weaker to reflect their preferred position. These players would need to be rare because it reflects ability to play in both positions rather than just telling a player to go and stand on the wing and tackle anything that comes near you! This would also be different to players such as say attacking midfielders because their skills are already covered by the attacking or defensive stat mix.
I assume you asked Dave as you have a situation with your defence? In which case no that probably wasn't the answer you were after. The only problem stopping utility players coming in is how to set up the formatting of the teams to implement two lines of stats as described in Steve's post. The way the engine works, you couldn't have a players with two rows next to his name as I would need to manually select which row applied. This would take up time and the whole point of redesigning the game was to cut out time consuming actions like this. If anyone has ideas (and understands the problem I've tried to describe with it) then ideas are welcome as if that could be overcome, I'm more than happy to implement dual position players.

Richard.
I'm not moaning just asking, AC Milan are a better team than I asked for, but I only started with 1 LB, 1 LM, 1 RM and an average team age of 32! and to try and get in three players of quality needed for a team like AC is very hard. I expect to be playing players with 6 for condition as some of my players started on 8.
In response to the formatting issue - what about if they don't have two sets of stats but just one? This gets rid of the prefered position but recognises that some players can play in more than one position. So for example with Cardiff Joe Ledley can play at FB or as CM. In the game his stats would read:
LB/CM Joe Ledley 21 6 5 7 4
These are the same as his current figures, the only difference being in the position column - which recognises he could be selected in either position. If I put him in as a LB I would simply indicate this on my team submission sheet.
I do have one or two issues with this however. Firstly this type of player must be proven as a utility player such as Jamie Carragher, not just someone who has been stuck in a hole! So these players would be pretty uncommon - as they are in real life. Secondly there might be a case for restricting them in some way - for example by making them slower to improve because they have extra skills to master (a bit like split class characters in role playing games).
The previous idea had been to have two lines of ratings, one for each position, for utility players. If as suggested here, this is removed and becomes simply one line that applied to both then something would have to be put in place that takes away from the player to compensate for them being equally good in both positions.
Such an alternative could well be that it takes utility players longer to improve. Obviously people won't be able to comment for definate on this until they see how quick/slow players improve anyway, but would this be a possible solution managers would be happy with?
One of my players hasn't played this season but they have a fitness lower than 10. Is this a misprint or can players who dont play have their condition decrease? Its not a misprint but one of the changes from the old version. Older players can start the season with a lower fitness rating than the maximum 10 which most players start with. This represents the fact that while younger players can regain full fitness during preseason, preseason training can leave older players whose body isn't as good as it used to be slightly lower. It tends to only apply to players when they get into their thirties.
