Hey come on lads how can you say that Athletic Bilbao is underachieving, they never had a team when a took over and they were sitting 8th,iv got them up in2 3rd position and had the 2nd spot for a few weeks, got then to the quarter finals of the spanish cup taking out Valencia on the way, sinse i took over we have been undefeated so how can u say were underachieving
Just because they should easily be in the top 2 that's all mate. Don't take it personal. This thred has only been posted on here coz Rich knows it will ruffel a few feathers lol. Don't take it personally Dave
You've done really well at Bilbao. He was having a joke with some of them I think he has Leicester as the biggest over achievers in England and Pique in his dream team

Well Pique can't be that bad with the amount of emails I get from top clubs asking for him. Probably are over achieving considering the crap I had there when I started. Saying that - It's always easier to manage a team full of big names aye Stu? League 1 - That's where the real challenge is. At least your top of your league aye?
P.s - Cheers for the mention in your media. Always nice to know the "Bigger Clubs" are looking our league!
There is a lack of defenders and desperation makes people do crazy things
Your target was top 6 and you're 5th so is that really over achieving?
It would be easy if I had my Sevilla team in League 1 because I would be playing teams like you. I think playing Barcelona Valencia and Real Madrid with my team is a lot harder. I've already done the low club challenge when I took Southampton from Division 1 to the Premiership and won the Premiership a few times and the English cup a few times and finished with a treble when I won Europe as well in the old game. This is a new challenge for me starting with an okay team in a top league. When I have done well in Europe with Sevilla I will look for a new challenge again but to say that I always take the easy way is stupid
Would Leicester like a friendly at the end of the season? As you won't be in the playoff final you can show me how a real manager works
League 1 is good to write about in the media because there are some good managers in that league who are reliable manage well and good to talk to. Just look at the top 4 teams

Firstly Stu, We'll see if I'm not in the play off final aye? Also, I've already sorted a friendly out if I'm not in the final with a manager that isn't so stuck up his own a**e but thatnks for the offer.
As for your team, You are one of the fav's for promotion in your league and I have the main guys like WBA, Cardiff, Southampton plus the other teams that have invested wisely like Crystal Palace, Leeds, Coventry etc so out of all of them I thinik that this is probably the hardest league to get out of dues to how close it is.
Well done on the previous games but like people keep reminding us Cardiff fans about the Likes of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Hasselbaink - You can't always live off past glories. I never said anything about Seville in League 1 as you would walk it. What I'm saying is that apparently this version of the game is alot harder than the old one and you do have the added extra of being able to call on the likes of Daniel Alves, Freddy Kanoute etc. There is no question that there is more of a challenge in trying to wheel and deal with the likes of Kisnorbo, Elvis Hammond and James Wesolowski.
Your Teams Player of the Season: Curro Torres --------------------------- Biggest Overachieving Team in England: Blackburn / Preston
Biggest Underachieving Team in England: Wolves --------------------------- Biggest Overachieving Team in Italy: Napoli
Biggest Underachieving Team in Italy: Parma --------------------------- Biggest Overachieving Team in Spain: Real Betis, just because they can be beatn
Biggest Underachieving Team in Spain: Deportivo --------------------------- Top 3 Managers of the Season (all countries):

Two top manager votes and two second votes. up the napoli!!!!!!!
Sevilla could make the top two in spain and there is no way they are the second best eleven in that league so you must be doing something right stu no matter what people think. calm down steve or we will have to get simon in here with his leicester leash.
I know i risk being attacked for commenting on Leicester but you were bigging yourself up at the start of the season and as your team has got better you have started to underplay your team more. i do not know why but it was something i have noticed. and because the other teams have managers who have spent wisely in your league does not mean you are under dogs because that is ignoring the hard work the others have done.

Most underperforming team in England??? I want to be higher than we are - but made a conscious decision this year to sacrifice some points against the bigger teams to safeguard the future of the team and invest in players such as Torres, Richards and Bale
We will naturally take some flak for this - but i feel the board and fans are behind us and what we are trying to do and think the evidence will show over the coming seasons as our youth policy leapfrogs us over Man U and Chelsea
Richard
Just wondering if we get to see your thoughts on this thread, as would be quite interesting to see the Don's thoughts on who is achieving what and under performing for each league?
Stu / Steve
I think Stu has had a good season - and the banter between you two makes me laugh and makes for a good read! Leicester have my support as i think they have a talented manager and im happy my youth players will be well looked after. For any bad patches of form he has had - he knows why and works hard on rectifying it - and i hope by reaching the playoffs and beyond - time will tell Steve has had a good season
Well done / Commiserations to everyone else voted on here - personally i feel the managers that can be very happy with their seasons so far are
David at Bilbao Simon at WBA Steve at Cardiff Drew at Chelsea Allan at Barca (but some odd signings my man!) Jamie at Napoli JD at Cheivo (even if you did let go of Naplo's new star performer)
and Madrid, Sevilla, Atheltico, Brescia and Real Betis have had good runs too. Also some of the new managers have performed above expectations - so well done to all!
English Premiership Overachievers: Portsmouth English Premiership Underachievers: Everton
English Championship Overachievers: Preston English Championship Underachievers: Sunderland
English League One Overachievers: Cardiff English League One Underachievers: Leicester (see bottom)
Italian Serie A Overachievers: Sampdoria Italian Serie A Underachievers: Parma
Italian Serie B Overachievers: Napoli Italian Serie B Underachievers: Genoa
Spanish La Liga Overachievers: Barcelona (see bottom) Spanish La Liga Underachievers: Villarreal (see bottom)
Spanish Segunda Division Overachievers: Athletic Bilbao (see bottom) Spanish Segunda Division Underachievers: Gimnastic
League One is surprisingly even and credit must go to the managers of the lower half teams (Wolves, Sheff W, Leeds, Coventry, Notts Forest and Bristol City) for making poor teams hard to beat. Ignoring West Brom, the rest of the division is pretty much anyone can take points off anyone else. I think everyone in this league has improved their teams since they joined the game but obviously those with top teams backing them (Leicester, Leeds) are the more high profile cases that take all the attention from the smaller clubs. I don't think anyone has massively underachieved in this league, Wolves were doing before the current manager joined but I think they're on the turn around at the moment. Then you have to look at the number of draws Leicester have got in the last 2 months. I just think with what Wolves have available to them, and what Leicester have available, Leiceseter probably pip it right now if I had to choose one.
Barcelona are second but I think to be 1 point off Real Madrid going into the run in is a good achievement. The likes of Sevilla are performing above expectations too but again if I had to pick one, right now Barcelona would just pip it.
Villarreal were shocking at the start of the season, along with Real Zaragoza. They both were hammered numerous times by people they should have been drawing with at least if not beating. But both have new managers who have turned things around and both are on the way up in that league. So just because Villarreal had done worse out of the 2 before the managers joined I think I'd have to pick them right now. If you look at the targets, the bottom 3 rated teams are the 3 in the relegation zone, so no one is massively underachieving in this league anyway.
Athletic Bilbao are 3rd in their league when target was top 2 but that doesn't take into account the terrible start to the season. They were another team that was thrashed continuously under another manager. The current manager has come in and like Napoli in Serie B, moved a struggling team back to the high expectations of pre-season. So for that I'd probably pick Athletic Bilbao here.
All media I write generally includes hints towards things. If I think the team isn't performing to its maximum, or is over performing, and so on. So its a good idea to keep up to date with all media pieces anyway.
The end of season summary and awards will generally represent my opinions on the season as a whole anyway, but these would be my choices so far.
There are various managers not mentioned above who I think have done extremely well with what they have available to them (this is the important thing used to measure managers in the most part), and although they haven't been mentioned, they'll have media about them or job offers from higher teams in the near future - as the season comes to an end clubs will start to head hunt some managers and this avoids you upsetting fans by applying to vacant positions how everyone has been doing so far.
Can I just add a couple of observations on this thread:
Firstly, thanks for the votes but what is "over-achieving"? I don't feel I am over-achieving, just getting the best I can from my team. I had targetted promotion this season (whatever anyone else said) so at the moment I'm just on target.
Secondly, a useful tip for new managers is look at how teams with experienced managers (such as Napoli) seem to be well above where their team should be. Don't just keep buying new players - think about how you want your team to play, what tactics best suit the players you have, come up with a plan and stick to it. Not all teams have the cash to buy themselves out of trouble, and even if you do - without the plan it really won't make a difference. Be pro-active not reactive.
Thirdly, WBA may be far too good for division one but you can only beat the teams you face and they have generally done that. There are lots of examples - particularly in version 1 of the game - where big teams won nothing.
Fourthly, all credit to the managers in Division 1. It is very hard every week in this division. All the easy games disappeared after the first few weeks as teams got settled managers. I can't imagine that many of these managers won't be getting job offers from bigger clubs at the end of the season!
Steve Cardiff
PS I've run with the hand I was dealt for the first half of the season - to see how the game panned out. While teams around me spent their time buying and selling. I'm re-organising for the run in........wonder if I've judged this right?
I'd like to say that i agree entirely with those who have labelled my team Wolves as the biggest under-achievers.
Wolves were labelled as a top six team and i only partially agree with this. When i joined the game Wolves were already bottom with four losses out of four, and although i haven't moved them off the bottom we managed to get a few draws and countless 2-1 losses (including against top 6 teams like Crystal Palace, Norwich, Leicester and Cardiff) which showed we were competing.
When you look at the squads in the bottom half of League 1 i have to say that there are far better players in other teams like Coventry, Leeds and Sheff Weds who are all around me so although we are 'under-achieving' i'd like to agree with Richard when i say we are at a turing point so hopefully we'll get a few points in the final part of the season.
I sympathise with all the lower divsion teams as to how hard it is to turn a team into an 'over-achieving' side so many congratulations to Chievo and Napoli for doing this.
Hopefully by this point next season Wolves and i wont be 'under-achieveing' anymore.

league 1 has been a really good league i think. anyone can go up but i think its really strange that no one is talking about norwich being up there at the end as the only team to take points away from west brom and only 2 points off 2nd only about 7 or 8 games left now good luck everyone

Cardiff are the only team I have dropped points against, and that was when the league was a bit tighter (we all know who those 6-pointers go!).
Simon (Safehands) - I put you as being the most underachieving team because you have a solid defense and one of the best stikers in the game, yet youre goal difference is almost 0!
Pricey - you've got a good team (although the primary language of your team is probably Spanish not English!) but I am 11 points clear, and threfore have no reason to win games anymore, as long as beat the teams at the bottom, there is no reason to go all out against the top teams.
Sorry if I sound big headed, but in the old game (as West Brom - there are now only 2 manager who have stayed at the same club since the very start of the game, me and Cardiff - since the Newcastle job change) I took West Brom from the bottom league to Europe, and got almost no attention - that is why I want to make a fuss about being so great, becasue people will think "I want to beat him becasue he will boast about it if he wins". I want to make my job harder and make it more of a challenge for me. In my opinion, the English league is the hardest, and I have already scaled that mountain - but now I want to do it again, but by taking the harder route.
Leicester - dont start a row, many people have tried to have a go at the most experienced and respected managers and have usually left the game. Te only person who backed down gracefully was Rhinosnatch, who appears to have gone walk-abouts. Is he still in the game?
Firstly can we try to keep language clean Steve, as this game is played by all ages and if people insist of rude slagging matches they'll have posting rights restricted to avoid upset.
Secondly this is a different game from the original FA but achievements should not be overlooked. If you look at the managers doing well in the Predictions the top scorers are the managers with more experience who played the old version, and it's these managers who tend to have a better grasp of the game decause while numerous things have changed, there is still much the same ie. transfers etc. Therefore that prior experience must be counting for something.
Lastly rivalry is great but it's much more fun for people reading it if its included in a nice piece of well written media. I'm sure everyone will respect you and your opinions more that way than ranting and raving on here.
Richard.
PS. I'm sure it was Cardiff who drew with WBA and not Norwich. Norwich are just the only team to have beaten Cardiff.
