Home Nations tournament & Olympic Team

Hi Guys,

I've been thinking over the past few days about the fact that they will be introducing a Home Nations tournament to be played between Wales, Scotlant and Northern Ireland (Not sure if Republic too???) likely to be called the Celtic Cup. I was just wondering what everybody thought of this and if the English people are happy that they are not taking part or would you want England in there too?

Also....

What is everyones thoughts on the Olympic team that they are trying to introduce? I imagine as a Welshman that it would be mainly made up of English players and the tokenry player from each other Country. Views??

Agree / Disagree??

I like the idea of the celtic up, should bring some extra interest instead of friendlies.

As for "team GB" no thanks. The FAW have already said no wales players will be released for this and rightly so.

England not taking part in the Celtic Cup will just mean cut TV revenue for the nations involved. It'll be a shame, and I think it suits international teams to play more games together. Without actually checking, I'm sure South American teams player far more internationals than European teams, which can only help gel players together.

As for the Olympics, they'll almost certainly go ahead with a team GB. If only England accepts the decision, then it'll be an all English team GB. The silly thing is, Wales, Ireland, Scotland say they won't join because theres a chance they'd have to give up individual rights and enter a team GB in all competitions (Euro's, World Cups...) yet if England go ahead with a team GB on their own, that chance will be there anyway, so they're risking losing individual team representation without actually getting the benefits of playing in a GB Olympic team. It just seems the respective FAs are too short sighted to realise that though.

Richard.

I'm disappointed England won't be putting a team in the Home Nations tournament. It would be a great opportunity to involve some of the lesser capped players e.g. Green, Young, Jagielka, Bentley, Richards, Agbonlahor etc.

I'm fed up of watching the same overpaid and hyped up players (Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Beckham, Rooney) play for England. We play BORING football.

I'd love to see an England team with character, passion and potential in a tournament.

I really dont like English national side(being Welsh). But surely their "B" side would probably have a good chance if not even be favourites for the Celtic Cup. Capello would then have a chance of looking at other players ready to bring through and this could possibly work in Engalns favour. They even got an excuse if they lose !

Cracking point GG.

remember England did have a B team didn't they? I remember all that fuss abou Chris Sutton coz he said he didn't want to play for them. I think it's a good way for them to get some decent fixtures. I personally would like to see England in the "Celtic Cup" as it is always good rivalry between the two sides and would be sweet IF we managed to beat them.
