Newcastle laugh off Davies

Chris Mort has dismissed the reports linking Wolves manager Adam Tyrone Davies to the Newcastle vacancy as 'crazy'. Newcastle have been unmanaged since Turney left for Valencia following a frayed relationship between Mort and Turney. Following news that Davies was interested in the job, Mort has moved to deny it.

"To approach Wolves for him would be a crazy move. We see ourselves as a big team and to appoint a manager off the back of a decent initial season would be stupid of me. Managers should prove they can cut it. One ok season followed by a move and then a terrible few months doesn't set you up for a top team. Wolves have gone backwards under Davies and he has to save his reputation before he can look at stepping up the ladder. Newcastle will categorically not be approaching Davies."

Fragile Portsmouth

Following the exit of manager Jackie Yeo after a terrible start to the season marking the end of his very short reign on the South coast, Portsmouth looked to have been inspired by their assistant manager. 50 minutes in and Portsmouth held a 2-0 lead away at West Ham. Pazzini shrugged off rumours he is to leave, angered at the handling of the management situation, to score the second as the unmanaged side looked strong.

But in the final 12 minutes they collapsed with emphatic style. West Ham scored 3 to claim all 3 points, with 2 goals in the final minute wrapping up the match. Portsmouth are clearly in a fragile state still and unless someone comes in to solidify the squad, they could be one of a number of established Premiership team who face relegation this season.

Rumour Mill

Fans hail Alberto Gilardino after West Brom stunned Manchester United this weekend. Gilardino has already been tipped by his boss to be player of the season for his impact at the Baggies.

Chris Mort is putting Newcastle up for sale. A local newspaper has reported that he is tired of the struggle to stay in the Premiership and wants out.

Glenn Whitter the Palermo manager has been approached regarding the Roma manager vacancy. Whitter has been spotted entering the Roma training ground for talks.

Turney has his own fan club at Valencia already after a stunning 2-1 win over league favourites Real Madrid.

Real Mallorca's title run hits bump with 3-2 loss to Athletic Bilbao. Mallorca fans hailed the result a 'travesty' after they thought the team was walking to the title.

Antonio Sapone of Mallorca has revealed how unhappy the players are at the unrest in the squad. The manager has chosen to constantly move players in and out since his arrival.

The Levante assistant manager has praised the manager for the stability he has brought. Money was spent on improving the defence and the same core of players have been used to great success so far this season.

Sisi has praised his old manager, now at Sheffield United manager. Gimnastic are flying high in Segunda Division and Sisi credits his old boss for laying the foundations.

Adam Tyrone Davies faces crisis talks with his Wolves chairman after looking to jump ship weeks into his reign amid criticism he hasn't even turned up to half the training sessions at his new job.

After suffering his first loss of the season Mallorca manager remains upbeat about the clubs chances of promotion:

It was definitely a huge disappointment to suffer our first loss this weekend but credit has to be given Bilbao who in all honesty deserved there victory. However we have to keep things in perspective, we are still top of the league and I am confident that we will soon recapture our early season form and return to winning ways.

Galeozzie confirms that Antonio Sapone has been released on a free but denies that his recent comments regarding the clubs transfer policy had any effect on the decision:

I was disappointed to read the comments from Antonio but they have no bearing at all over his leaving the club. It was always our intention to let Antonio leave this week as we have just signed Geary from AC Milan and Zambrotta will also be joining us this week on a full season loan therefore leaving him surplus to requirements. However I would like to thank him for his effort during my time at his club. I felt it was only fair to let him go on a free has he has plenty of football left in his career and felt asking for a fee might prevent him from finding another club. I wish him all the best for the future.

Galeozzie defends Mallorca transfer policy rumoured to be causing unrest amongst the players:

I accept there has been a lot of changes at the club since the start of the season but it is important to remember that when I took over at the club we had just been relegated having struggled to compete on any level in the top division. We are not a rich club with unlimited funds therefore I took the decision to make a lot of changes with the intention of building a team capable of not only gaining an immediate return to the top flight but also maintaining it.

We are in a transitional period at the moment and there are still future transfers to be made before I am happy that I have a team that can compete at the highest level therefore I ask that the players, board and fans remain patient whilst these necessary changes are made. We are on course to gain promotion and with a few more players both coming into the club and leaving I fully expect the club to gain promotion this season, consolidating its position in the top division next season before pushing on up the table the following season.

Sheffield Wednesday show "Bounce-backability"

After thier crushing defeat at home to Sunderland last week, Sheffield Wednesday returned to winning ways in impressive style after Steve Davies-Evans' men claimed a 2-1 win over promotion rivals Birmingham City at Hillsborough this week.

Wednesday have been playing some attractive football of late and this was displayed when they took the lead on 34 mins. A tricky run by on-loan Barcelona striker Victor Vazquez
opened up the Birmingham defence where Vazquez was able to flick the ball with the outside of his left foot to on-coming winger Francisco David Sousa who fired low passed the keeper into the bottom corner.

Wednesdays joy was short lived as a mix-up at the back allowed Birmingham to equalised alomost immediatley. Just 90 seconds after goaing behind, Birmingham won a corner on the right hand side. Sebastian Larsson played an inswinger straight onto the head of giant defender Martin Taylor who rose above Jonny Evans to head the ball down into the path of Gark McSheffrey who volleyed into the top corner to bring the scores level.

In a close second half it was Wednesday who used their home advantage count as they passed the ball around and opened up Birmingham only to be denied by inform keeper Adam Legzdins.

Taylor was helpless to stop the Sheffield Wednesday winner on 64 mins when Wednesday leading score Jose Mari held the ball up on the edge of the box only to play a square ball to Manuel Iarrusso who scored one of the goals of the month as he chipped Legzdins who had tried to slide out to the feet of Iarrusso.

Birmingham did have a chance to equalise in the dying minutes when Stephen Kelly floated over a free kick onto the head of striker Cameron Jerome who completley fluffed his shot and ended up clearing it over the Hillsborough stand which is some going as it stands around 80ft above the goal. The was to be the final chance as Wednesday hung onto a deserved win against their rivals.

We spoke to manager Steve Davies-Evans after the game.

Q - Steve - you must be pleased with 3 points?

"Yeah we're delighted. I've just told the players in there that they have every right to feel pleased with what they have done today. Everyone of them worked their socks off and that is probably the best we have played all season. Birmingham are a good side but I think we bossed things from start to finish today. We could have made things alot easier for ourselves and we gifted them a silly goal but we showed the charachter to come back again in the second half and score a great winner."

Q- You now play Nottingham Forest away next week, are you confident you can continue winning?

"Absolutley, we are playing well and like I said last week, we fear nobody and hopefully we have shown that today. We were unlucky last week against Sunderland and I still think we deserved a point from that game but my players stood strong today and showed the league that we are still very much in the hunt for automatic promotion and we will be doing everything to win every game as Forest will find out next week."

Q -Steve, It's been rumoured that your chairman may well give you extra funds at the mid way point to help you gain promotion. Would you like to comment on that?

"I can't comment on that. The chairman is a fantastic guy who will do what's best for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. Obviously we would be delighted to get some extra money to try and close the gap on the top two but if not then we will work with what we have and I am still confident that we can do well with the team we have. Mr Ecclestone and I have many meetings where we discuss which way the club is going and hopefully with recent preformances, we are proving to him that we are headed in the right direction. What he then does with his money is up to him but I am confident he will do what's right."

Fletcher Cant Hide Disappointment.

Blades boss Andy Fletcher was slightly quiter than usual yesterday in his post match press conference.

The match started badly for us but we showed resolve and got straight back into the game.

To go ahead and then lose that lead twice is difficult to comprehend, especially at home. We need to stay focused for 90 minutes and cancel teams out.

WE will work on defensive duties this week and If I have to change things around.

We have a tricky visit to Charlton and to stay in the play offs we must get 3 points on Saturday.

Gibson issues Boro warning

Steve Gibson has issued a statement on the clubs website saying sales of further stars is 'an unacceptable step backwards.' Moves for both Yakubu and Rochemback are planned but Gibson has told his manager in no uncertain terms to rethink his player strategy.

"We have sold many assets. Ashley Young, Kieron Dyer, Victor, Jonathan Woodgate, Robert Huth, Chris Riggott among others, as well as our assistant Bill Beswick. In replace the manager has seen fit to buy players in their mid-30s and players of low league quality. None of our Premiership standard players have been replaced. Our new assistant Walter Mazzarri won't help us produce players that talented so quickly so it makes no sense to sell all our assets.

I'm a man of patience but the current policy is simply not acceptable. League form has us struggling to keep hold of a play-off place and fans are beginning to get unhappy. Middlesbrough manager position is a role that will get huge support from myself and the rest of the board, but it isn't an untouchable position."

Sodinha speaks out

Sodinha has blasted Wolves manager and also expressed criticism of the previous boss there following his departure back to Italy in joining struggling Serie A side Sampdoria. Sodinha joined Wolves under manager Jamie Best in a large swap deal after being spotted playing in Serie B.

"I enjoyed my brief spell in Serie B. Jamie Best offered a bright future and when I signed for Wolves I was signing my development as a professional footballer over to him. It was devastating when he left. He sold a dream of promotion to the Championship. I think we all knew he would leave at some point but he said he wanted to gain promotion first. Inter Milan is a big club but that doesn't stop me feeling betrayed a little.

Adam Tyrone Davies is totally different. He began in Spain so maybe he has picked up different management traits there. All the British core Jamie built us around was sold so quickly I don't think any of the players knew what was happening. A season ago I saw my future at Wolves for a long time so I'm sad to be leaving them for that reason. On the other hand a move to Sampdoria gets me out of the hell hole that club is turning into. I feel sorry for the players left there."

Despite winning this week, the new Wolves manager's form and transfer policy have come under close scrutiny and having already expressed a desire to leave less than 2 months into the job, some pundits believe he is on borrowed time at Wolves now.

Pandiani slams Galeozzi

Walter Pandiani has hit out at his treatment by managers in recent times. The new AC Milan signing has just left Mallorca but already seems to be on the fringes at Milan before kicking a ball.

"Mallorca made it clear they didn't want me under the new manager. He has spent 3 months trying to flog me and it's ruining my career. I want to be somewhere I can play for someone that wants me. I had a move close to being agreed to AC Milan at the end of last season before Coakley joined them but the deal fell through when his Man City team offered a little more. That deal then collapsed so I was left with no way out.

I thought when Luke came back for me at his new team that I was finally getting the move I wanted, but he's made it clear I'm for sale immediately. I just don't think players should be bounced about like that. He hasn't even seen me play in a Milan shirt and he's dismissing me. I just want out now."

Reports suggest Pandiani has sent his agent to England in the hope that new Spurs manager may be tempted to appoint him.

Rumour Mill

Napoli are tracking Sevilla centreback Danny Gabbidon preparing a shock swoop for the Welshman.

Pablo Zabaleta hopes to make his loan move to Arsenal a permanent one come the second half of the season.

James Vaughan will join Celta Vigo from Inter Milan on loan for the rest of the season in a bid to gain first team experience.

Andrea Pirlo is being lined up by the new Spurs manager as he looks to stamp his mark on the squad.

Almeria's youth specialist assistant Unai Emery will join Roma in a bid to attract a new manager in.

Atletico Madrid are considering offering a contract to Brescia manager Huw Evans.

Recreativo are looking to renew their interest in the Bristol City manager Stephen Wells despite already being knocked back in pre-season.

Disegni is pleased to link up with fellow Juventus loan players at Segunda side Real Mallorca.

Mohamed Al Fayed is prepared to walk out on Fulham whether a new buyer is found or not. Fayed was willing to sell to the Dhubi group 2 months ago before they bought Genoa.

The Blackburn supporters group are demanding 9 points from the next three games or they will renew protests for the sacking of the manager.

Peter Hill-Wood admits relief at not sacking Simon Newcombe who was 1 match away from being sacked for underperforming last season.

Rollings delight at finally capturing "wonderkid"

Sampdoria boss Mark Rollings has today spoken out over his delight at finally capturing young talent Sodinha from wolves and has suggested he may be about to throw his young protege straight into serie a action.

The deal has been one of the most drawn out transfer saga's this season but sampdoria's patience has finally paid off.

Sat aside his new purchase rollings offered words of encouragement to the young talent.

"Sodinha repesents where we are trying to take this club. People may look at this him as one for the future but I will have n issues throwing him in straight away. We have another deal tied up for a central midfielder so he will have to fight for his place like everyone else but rest assured he has come here to play games this season. He has an explosiveness about him from central midfield that we have been lacking and I am excited at his potential."

The new arrival at sampdoria is rollings' 6th signing of the season, and it seems as if the welshman may not be finished yet.

'We have a deal agreed for a left back, central midfielder and striker. All of these will add something to the squad and I don't anticipate any problems with relegation come the end of the season. This term was always going to be about laying the foundations and Brian Beswick represents that fact. He is working hard on our academy and I anticipate some results soon. It will take a bit of time to get exactly where we want but everyone is pulling in the same direction and work behind the scenes is continuing at pace'

Palermo manager, Glenn Whitter has reacted to the speculation of him being next inline as the new Roma coach.

"Im delighted that a club such as Roma have taken an intrest in me, but i have to turn down the offer as i feel there is still a few things left for me to do here at Palermo. I joined the club last season gaining promotion within my first attempt finishing in second place behind Sampodoria, and now find myself lying 2 points away form third place (AC Milan) in Seria A. My goals for this season is to stay in Seria A where the club deserves to be and then follow it up next year by challenging for a spot in the Champions League. I can say it would become a dream of mine to take control of Roma in the future but for now my heart lies here with Palermo Thank you".

Kellner announces new plans

Recreativo Huelva have long been a team tredding water. Since the parting of ways between the club and Rob McFawn last season, the rich chairman has been looking to back a new manager without success. Kellner outlined his long term plans when he first bought into the club but the first wave of investment failed to improve the clubs league position and ultimately led to the manager becoming disillusioned there.

"I can confirm this afternoon a transfer fund of Ł20 million will be moved into the club bank accounts. This season has been a struggle so far without a manager but everyone at the club hopes this will change."

The comments were put on the clubs website today and has sparked further rumours that a manager will shortly be unveiled. Stephen Wells (Bristol City), Huw Evans (Brescia) and Paul Harrington (West Brom) are the leading candidates so far.

Fulham for sale

Reports from a London newspaper claim that Fulham are talking to a Nigerian businessman over the sale of the club. It have been suggested for some time now that the current chairman has become disillusioned with the club and wanted to sell.

Today's news will hold positives and negatives for the fans of the club however. Fulham fans were worried when claims that the chairman was going to simply walk out were reported at the weekend, which would put the club into administration being without any chairman. Yet nothing is known about the Nigerian interested party and some leading officials of the sport are questioning the legitimacy of the offer.

Ecclestone to back club

The Sheffield Wednesday chairman has confirmed he will be backing the club further with another financial investment. He is quoted as saying he would like the current manager to show the team can challenge for the top places and if that happens more money will be made available.

This comes after Wednesday dumped Premiership new boys Coventry out of the English cup and went on to beat league leaders Birmingham.

Davies-Evans Delight at Ecclestone 'backing'!

Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Davies-Evans has been quick to respond to his chairmans words that the manager is to receive more financial backing to improve the teams chances of promotion this season. Ecclestone has already wiped out Ł2m of club debt before handing Davies-Evans a Ł20m warchest earlier in the season. Davies-Evans has undoubtedly improved the team that finished 11th last season.

The team currently sit in 5th place, just 6 points behind second placed Birmingham City who they defeated last weekend. With another backing from Bernie Ecclestone, Sheffield Wednesday could well find themselves challanging for an automatic promotion place afterall. The Hillsborough outfit travel to The City Ground this weekend to take on an improving Nottingham Forest side before continuing their great cup run with a trip to managerless Portsmouth on Monday night. We managed to grab a few words with manager Davies-Evans before he took his training session today.

"I'm delighted that we may well get an increase on the transfer budget. We are playing well currently but I feel that we are still some way behind the Cardiff's and Sunderland's of this world so any extra funds that the chairman makes available will be very welcomed.

I hope that the chairman has already seen that I can spend the money wisely and that we are headed in the right direction. We already spoken about one or two targets that will imrpove the squad and hopefully take us one step closer to promotion. We have tough game this week against a Forest side that will put us under pressure. I am confident that we can gain another positive result and hopefully carry that on into the cup game on Monday night."

The owls are clearly ready to make their move on the league and with a chairman ready to match the managers ambition, who would bet against them catching Birmingham and claiming an automatic promotion place.

Petty slams ecclestone.

"He spoils the game of football, swans in with his millions and when he has had enough, he will swan off back to his toy cars and his women"

Do you thing Davies-Evans has done well with the money.

"Steve is a mate of mine and is building a decent team for League one and thats all they will be. He hasn't spent wisely if i'm honest, 20m is a lot for this league. I think he must have pocketed a few quid himself for the beer festivals he holds in his hometown of Porthcawl!"

Wells to leave Bristol City

At a hastily arranged press conference, Stephen Wells made the following statement -

"It is with a heavy heart that I hereby announce my resignation from Bristol City football club. I will be forever grateful to Mr Lansdown for giving me my start in football management. I would like to thank the players, who have been fantastic from the moment I first stepped onto the training ground, and I would especially like to thank the fans. I probably wasn't the manager they wanted, at the time, but they gave me a chance, and I can't fault the support they've given me."

Wells wasn't answering questions about why he was leaving, or whether he'd been offered a job elsewhere.

Pandiani has Milan future

AC Milan manager has rubbished reports that new signing Walter Pandiani is already on his way out of the club and has predicted a bright future for the former Espanyol striker in Milan.
I have read rumours he is going to Spurs and that he is not wanted in Milan but this is nonsense. Spurs have never asked about him and we have only just signed Walter (Pandiani). He has a big future at the club and he will start our game this week. He is a player I have always rated and I tried to sign him when he was at Espanyol and tried to sign him from Mallorca under previous management so Im delighted to finally have him. We now have a good set of strikers at Milan of varying ages and style so it gives me options.

Coakley did however refuse to guarantee that the striker will still be in Milan at the end of the season.
Football is a funny game and every player has a price especially considering we are trying to rebuild a squad a very tight budget. I cant see into the future but as far as im concerned Pandiani is a key player for Milan and should be for the foreseeable future.

Harrington Rejects Roma

News has come out today that the Roma board approached Baggies manager Harrington with a view to becoming thier new Manager. but the breaking news is that Harrington has turned down the lucrative offer to stay at the helm of West Brom

"It was a terrific offer from one of the greatest clubs in Europe, and i think it shows how far West Brom have come in such a small space of time, however i havent finished what i started here at the Hawthorns so it would be wrong of me to leave this club at the present time. My contract runs out at the end of the season here, and who knows what will happen then, but for the moment i am happy, and enjoying the challenge here at West Brom"

Davies-Evans cleans up in 'Wednesday' sweepstake thank to 'Petty Comments'!!

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Davies-Evans tonight entered his press conference with a beaming big smile on his face. When asked by a local journalist what he was so happy about, Davies-Evans was quick to conclude that he had won a sweepstake held by his captain Liam Miller.

"Liam came to me with the idea that we should have a sweepstake to guess when Jonathan Petty would start getting bored with life at Sunderland and start distracting himself from gaining promotion. Luckily for me, I had this week as my pick and I've cleaned up a cool Ł300. I was going to send it to Jonathan so he could take his family to porthcawl and treat them to ice-cream and Fish 'n' chips but instead I thought I'd give it to a worthy cause - The NSPCC.

It's normally about this time that Jonathan likes to start playing around with things and fluffing promotion but rather than selling key players, like Phil Neville in previous seasons, he's now gone for the verbal attack on a team he has got nothing to do with.

I feel sorry for Jon as having known him for a while now, I wonder if he will ever actually get Sunderland promoted or just fall at the final hurdle like normal. You also have to feel sorry for the Sunderland fans as they must think the team have the stamina of a one legged man in an arse kicking competition - very amusing but never gonna quite do the business!

However, I invite Jonathan to keep commenting on our team as they still have to come to Hillsborough later in the season and It would be terrible if his side lost out to a team that is 'only ever going to be league 1 standard!'.

I'm sure he will wake up in the morning and wish that he had not picked on a team that will be gunning for Sunderland til the end of the season. My team didn't need any extra motivation but we thank 'Mr Petty' for again helping to 'gee up' my players."

Gardner comes out of the sun and decides to talk to the Spanish press

Press - "How are you finding life in the Premera Gareth ?"
GG - " Ill be honest as i allways have and say I said at the start of the season we will be lucky to get a point in the 1st 7 games and iv been correct. It was a good draw last week and I fully expect 4 points minimum from the next 2 games and maybe even all 6 ! "

Press - " Any more potential transfers in the pipeline ? "
GG - " Yes im allways looking to strengthen. Iv signed a few older age quality palyers recently with Patrick Vieira joing us untill he retires and also Gilberto Silva,Mendes and Emre coming in.Iv also got youth to cover these positions with the impressive Levi Porter and also Johnathan Villa both at a young age coming through well. Also with Victor up front we will have James Vaughan coming in on loan this week and Johnathan Howson soon joining but he maybe going out to the Segunda for the experiance and as a favour to a friend to help him achieve his goals.Iv also got a young and talented right midfielder and an experianced centre back coming in this week with Lee Croft leaving in the other direction."

Press - " Whats your recent thoughts on the media ? "
GG = " Well being honest after reading through the last few weeks its been a bit mad. I see Mr Wells is jumping ship at Bristol City instead of trying to keep them up,a job im sure hes not capable of doing. Also I see my 2 good managerial friends having a liitle bit of banter with Sheff Wed and Sunderland.Everybody knows both love the media attention, as for the jobs they are doing I think Johnathan is doing a fantastic job at Sunderland and can see them becoming league Champions, as for Steve hes had 20 million to spend and I think hes spent it appalingly. He has 6 1st team loan players in now and i really hope he is looking to the future and not just the present as he has done with his other 2 clubs ! "

Press - " As for the job your doing Gareth , your not really looking that pretty ! "
GG - " Yes I agree, the table doesnt tell the whole story though,we have currently played all the big teams and from now on it gets easier. A 1 mill transfer budget also didnt help but i understand my chairmans position and hes only looking after the club and I totally agree with him. Vigo shall be safe this year and look good for the future ! its going to be tight mind"

Press - " Do you see your future anywhere else ? "
GG - " Im not really the type of manager that leaves clubs in the lerch half way through a season, if i do ever leave Vigo it will only be for the right team at the right time and i can promise the Vigo fans I will allways leave them in a good state, something I didnt do at Leeds and I have now learnt my lesson from that."

GG - " No more questions please, the Jaccuzzi on the balcony is awaiting my services, lol dont think I could say that in the English weather ! Maybe 1 day my friends over in England will get a chance to manage in the best league in the game. "

New Spurs manager talks

Richard jefferies the new Spurs manager has spoken for the first time since his move to north London.

How are you finding things at White Hart Lane ?

"
Well i must say things are very different here compared to life in Spain, for start it has done nothing but rain here for two weeks now, and now i am getting used to have some fantastic attacking players in my squad,at Zaragoza i built my success on having a superb defence and thats the way it will be here, its no good going out scoring 2 goals if we conceed 5 at the other end"

So are you making some changes then ?

" I am not going to rush into anything but i have more than enough going forward to hurt every team in this division, Berbatov has been different class and we have looked great going forward. I am bringing in a more defensive midfielder next week and have had to sacrifice a luxury player but i hope this will make us harder to break down without losing anything going forward".

Richard we wish you all the best.

Inter Milan manager Jamie Best talks about life at Milan and media releases regarding ex-players.

Jamie, Sodinha has come out this week and expressed his disappointment at life in England and your move to Inter, what are your thoughts on this?

Well i really feel for the boy, it was a difficult decision to leave Wolves but the challenge that i have undertaken at Inter is on a much bigger scale, i tried to sign both Sodinha and Darren (Fletcher) earlier in the season as they were my two key players while i was at Wolves, and a deal was actually agreed for the former but Mr Tyrone-Davies pulled out of the deal much to my diappointment. However, he now has his chance thanks to Mark at Sampdoria and i wish him all the best, i hope he understands that my decision to leave Wolves wasn't a personal one against any of the players but a managerial one.

You made some strong comments in the week after the current Wolves manager made an application for the vacant Newcastle managers position, did you feel it necessary to speak out against him?

Well when he first took over at Wolves i wished him all the best and after seeing him have a bit of success with Deportivo i thought he would be pushing for promotion but look at where they are now, the club have gone downhill and it really makes me sad for the chairman and the fans after the time and energy they have all put in to the club but i hope he can turn things around, a good result at the weekend against a strong Reading side has stood him in good stead for that but now he needs to push on and have a good run of results.

So what transfers have you got lined up, we saw Cambiasso exit this week with Saviola and Pennant coming the other way, but we also saw Zabaleta go out on loan and Vaughan will be going out this week, leaves the squad a little thin don't you think?

Well Pablo (Zabaleta) is only out til the halfway point of the season as a favour to Mr Newcombe and Arsenal so he will returning almost immediately, James (Vaughan) was getting experience here but was maybe a little out of his depth so i feel it will develop him a bit playing at Celta for a while. I'm hoping for a couple additions at the halfway stage from our youth academy but we'll have to wait and see what is produced.

You were given a Ł15mil chest at the start of the season and that has nearly gone now do you think you have developed the squad wisely with that?

Of course i am going to say i have but the people to ask are the fans and the chairman as it's their money and their opinion is the one that counts for me, i know the fans were a bit sceptical about my appointment to start with but maybe i have won them over a little. We've brought in class players like Zabaleta, Van der Vaart, Saviola, Pennant, Guayre and also young Vaughan who will develop into a good striker so i think the money has been spent very wisely. We also bought in Zivanovic to help young Andrea Mei develop at the back and so far that has worked.

Your pre-season target of a top 2 finish isn't looking too promising at the moment, any words on that?

It was never going to happen overnight if you ask me and i said that when i took the job on, when you lose 7 or 8 world class players due to retirements it's difficult to maintain the clubs success but we'll get there, providing we have the backing from the people who matter and i'm sure they'll let me know how they feel on the situation one way or the other.

Thanks for your time Jamie.

Cardiff talks about life in league one

Press - Stuart you have such a big game this week against Sunderland. Are you excited or nervous?

"I'm excited. Sunderland have all the big players and all the big talk in this division. You have to measure yourself against them to see how good your team really is. They know they have to beat teams like us and we can use that expectation and turn it into pressure on their shoulders."

Press - Do you share Steve Davies-Evans opinion about Sunderland always falling at the final obstacle?

"It could happen. I don't know if even winning the division by a few points will be enough for the fans and the chairman. Big promises were made before the season started."

Press - You said you expected your team to get promoted. Is it going to happen?

"Everyone outside the top two have been rebuilding their teams. Sunderland have been swapping players but they had the quality already they have just been changing the names in their team. I think now the other teams will challenge those top two. I expect us to get promoted because the team is too big for this league and the chairman knows this. I still believe the headstart some teams had will put us in the play-offs but if we have to get promoted the hard way then thats what we'll do."

Press - Scimeca joins Cardiff where he started many years ago. What was the thinking behind that?

"I want an experienced player in the middle. I needed someone to balance Redondo and Ramsey. Scimeca provides experience and defensive knowhow. Adebayor joins this week to give the strikers some competition. I can rotate him in when the young strikers get suspended so his signing was important."

Press - So will you stick with the two young boys up front against Sunderland?

"I don't want to comment on team selections to the press. I will pick a team to frustrate Sunderland this week and limit the goals they can score. Three strikers could leave us very open and wouldn't frustrate them in that way. If we can stop them scoring more than one goal I think we can get something from the game against the odds."

Cheers Stu

Sheffield Wednesday v Nottingham Forest - Pre match Build up with Steve Davies-Evans

Steve, Your side have been in good form recently and you now face a tricky away trip to Nottingham Forest. Are you confident you can come away with all 3 points?

SDE - Yeah I think we are confident going into any game we play. I think we showed that against Birmingham last week and I hope that we can show the same sort of spirit this week.

Where do you feel your side is the strongest at the moment?

SDE - Well I think that we are showing sides of all round strength and every player seems to working 110% for the team. We are starting to create alot more chances these days which is something that we spoke about because when you have the strikers we do, you will score goals if you create the chances for them.

Nottingham Forest have a couple of players out this week, do you see this as an advantage to your side?

SDE - Not at all. There is no 'Easy' games in this league and you have to be ready for every single one and Forest will still put out a side capeable of taking points of us if we are not focused so we are making sure that from minute one, we want to be in control of the game.

Steve, You have moved to bring in alot of players since your arrival, do you feel that you are now building a promotion challanging side and do you have anymore signings lined up?

SDE - Well we weren't in a position to challange for the league when I first arrived but the chairman was good enough to back us in the transfer market and hopefully our league position and recent form have shown that we are making great strides to achieve our aim. There are still alot great teams in this division and we are not far off but I still feel we need 2-3 players to help us really challange the top 2. As for new signings, I will only comment on any signings once they are in the shirt but I will say that there are 2 players that will be joining the club immenantly.

Finally Steve, You have a big cup game away to Portsmouth on Monday night. Many areas of the press have suggested that you may use the Forest game as a chance to rest players in order to have a fully fit squad ahead of what could be a very lucrative tie, is this true?

SDE - I can promise you that whatever side I put out in either match, it will be a side that I feel can win both games. Whether that means giving a few fringe players a chance in the Forest game then that may be. However, I am not saying that will be the case. We know that the league is our bread and butter and we also know that cup offers a great chance of financial reward to us so I will be taking all options into account before naming both starting line up. Thank you.

Life long Cardiff fan Jonathan Petty speaks out about playing them this week and gives his thoughts about the league.

"I am excited about playing Cardiff this week as I am a local lad and love the club. However I am a Sunderland manager and have a job to do here and I also love Sunderland football club. I feel I am a red anwhite inside aswell as blue and white. I wopuld however love to manage the club some day"

Can you beat Cardiff?

"Well I believe the pressure is on them really to beat us, we are yet to lose this season and Cardiff are a big club in this league so it'll be tough but its up to us now"

You made a commitment of winning this league before half way stage before the season started, how can you?

"Well what I meant by that was at half way point we will be top of the league and thats where we'll stay. So at half way point if/when we are top the league will be ours!"

Will you be looking forward to returning the favour to Sheff Wed this week by beating Cardiff?

"Not really, I'd like to help but like I said before Sheff Wed are a league 1 team so if I help them I don't think they'll take advantage anyway. They helped us last week by beating Brum and we took advantage by winning. If they make the playoffs I think they will lose in the semi-final"

But they will have another cash injection soon as promised by their adventurous chairman, do you feel threatened by this?

"Ha ha! Why? Steve will wast it again, tell Bernie to cut his losses and get rid of Steve now! before he makes im bankrupt"

What do you think of Stephen Wells getting a new Job?

"Excellent, STeW is a very good tactical manager and with money behind him he could be very dangerous and do very well. On the other hand if he has only worked on a tight budget it may go against him. He's a good mate of mine and we've already agreed a deal this week, if he wants any advice he knows where I am. Good luck mate!"

What is happening with transfers this season, other managers brand you as the tinkerman! Is that fair?

"It was but not any more, I believe by "tinkering" we have a much stronger squad and are ready to go up and stay up! We have few more players lined up, this week Osagowara is going to Sheff Wed and Riccy Gardner is coming in, also a great centre mid is coming it to strengthen this week on loan. And we may have a class striker joining at half season which is good timing as Sahar and a few others go back to their clubs"

Prediction for this week?

"I think a certain Mr Zamora will get a brace on his debut and we'll sneak a win and Birmingham to slip up again with Sheff Wed losing 1-0 to Forrest and Steve becoming under major pressure from Bernie"

Recreativo Huelva officially unveil new manager

Recreativo Huelva today confirmed that Stephen Wells has been appointed manager of the club.
Wells attended a short press conference, and introduced himself to the local media.

"I'd like to say how grateful I am to be given the chance to manage Recreativo Huelva, and to manage in La Liga.
I've had a chat with the chairman, I know what's expected, and I think the chairman knows what he can expect from me.
I won't be making sweeping changes straight away. Some people have commented on the money available to me, but before anyone comes in I'll have to cut the squad down.
I hope the fans will give me time to show them what I can do."

RE: Week 9

Ascoli manager Jonny Sinclair today spoke out about the team's disappointing season so far

It's not been at all we knew we'd be up against it this season and eight straight losses have proved i think we got promoted too early bt io havent given up all hope we're only 6 points away from being out of the relegation zone but at the moment i'd be happy with our first point of the season thats what our fans deserve

Rumours suggest you might be about to resign can you comment on this?

Welli can say definately not i don't want to leave the club as soon as we have some disappointment but i m trying my best the only way i would leave is my chairmen saying im not doing a good enough job and with the way we've being doing i wouldnt be surprised football is a result based game but the chairmen says he's still happy with me

plus the last rumours suggest werent true as Norwich did not offer me the job at all

Davide Raffaello has been attracting a lot of interest recently will he soon be on his way?

no he will not don't get me wrong we've had some amazing bids for him but he is an amzing talent and at the moment we do not need to sell our players Davide is happy with the club he's grown up at so it would be crazy to sell him

Genoa are doing really well this season thanks to the abu dhabi group do you regret on getting the money now?

again no i don't Genoa first off were a decent team anyway thats why they ended up 3rd last season and now with a new manager in Chris Racliff with the money they have got they have only signed two old players who are likely to retire soon i also wouldn't have been happy with the group signing a player like Riquelme without my say so im happier naturing my youth players who love the club than blowing money on players i'm always happy with some money to bring in players but as i don't i'll have to keep going with what i have and im happy with what i have

What do you think aout recent events in the media?

Well im shocked to see Paul (Harrington) reject the Roma most managers would jump at the bit to take over there he has done an excellent job at West Brom it's also nice to Stuart has move to La liga he's done a brilliant job at Bristol who'll be distraught he's left them but Stuart deserves to be manging at the top level hopefully he can do the same with Recreativo and with some cash at last it'll be interesting to see how he spends it.

Rollings eyes Empoli springboard as left back pens deal

This weeks fixtures throws up a perennial six-pointer with promoted Sampdoria entertaining an Empoli side who have seen improvements of late. Sitting 9th and 10th in Serie A the clash represents a severe test of mettle for both struggling outfits and three-points would offer welcome relief. For Sampdoria, even at this early stage, the fixture has an air of must-not-lose around it, and with Brescia up next the Blucherati have a real chance of putting some distance between themselves and the bottom three. Rollings has brought some big names into the club since his arrival, but speaking to Gazetta del sport, was firm in his understanding that it was now time to deliver results.

"The first half of this season was always going to be about putting various things in place to secure our future. We now have a top youth system, led by Brian Beswick (widely regarding as one of the best around) and that will safeguard our future and ensure that we can work sustainably as a club. We have also focused heavily on getting a squad together that would firstly keep us in the league this season, but also grow and develop as a squad. We have some exciting youngsters in the form of Miguel Torres, Paolo Castelazzi and Sodinha and they will grow and develop here for years to come. We are aware however that we need to start turning that into points this season and that starts this weekend against Empoli."

Clearly Rollings recruitment drive is still in full force, with strong rumours that the Sampdoria boss will complete the signing of Julio Arca this week, while continuing to covet the services of a central midfielder and striker. Arca, of course, was a pivotal member of Rollings Coventry City promotion winning outfit and will add a touch of craft to the left hand side. Should Rollings then fulfil his wish of adding two more players, Sampdoria fans will be confident that their side have the resources to ensure their Serie A survival. However, while the transfer merry-go-round continues at a pace at the Genoa outfit, Rollings is all too aware that survival this season is a priority.

"We look to have secured a deal to bring Julio (Arca) here. I have been working on this particular deal since I joined and I am delighted it looks like finally we have our man. Julio was nothing short of sensational for me at Coventry last season and at one stage I had a provisional deal to take him there (Coventry) at the start of this season. Luckily that deal was never finalised and it gave me the opportunity to bring him here instead. He is a player of proven quality and will give us a great link between our full-backs and midfield. However, we must put all talk of new signings to one side now and concentrate on three points this weekend!"

Should Sampdoria manager to collect maximum points from their next two fixtures, and Rollings deliver on his promise of more signings his fans will be hopeful of a better second half of the season and a bright future going forwards.

Kellner backs manager

After harsh words from Celta Vigo manager Gareth Gardner, Recreativo Huelva's chairman Petr Kellner has defended the decision to move for Stephen Wells. Gardner accused Wells of jumping ship mid season but Kellner is of a different view.

"If Stephen had stayed all season he would undoubtedly have kept Bristol up. Suggestions that he would have gone down are stupid. Last season 12 points would have kept you up in the Championship and Stephen has amassed 13 before the half way stage. If we had waited and Bristol had got into the play-offs or better, we would have been fighting against some of Europe's best teams to appoint him as manager. Getting him now suits us and it helps us build towards a better future now instead of waiting.

It's nice another manager looking on with envy saying they wouldn't move clubs now. He is in the envious position of being able to claim such loyalty but the truth of the matter is it's because no one has come knocking for his signature, not because he is ever loyal."

Gibson holds crisis talks

Chairman of Middlesbrough football club Steve Gibson has planned a crisis meeting with his fellow board members for mid-day today. Gibson announced his disappointment with the transfer policy at the club under the current management and issued a public appeal for change to keep the fans on side and help the club move forwards.

Since then it is believed a number of players have come under offer from the squad to reduce the team further, and just half an hour after Sampdoria announce talks over Arca are progressing, it is thought Gibson has finally decided to move on the issue. Press correspondents are rapidly gathering outside the ground awaiting an official announcement with people phoning into a local radio news show demanding O'Connor or Gibson's head.

maybe if the so called stars of boro produced anything there would be no need to move them on. attacking formations of 3-5-2 have produced nothing, so called good defenders are conceeding every game. there seems to be a malaise at the club and acceptance of mediocrity. bringing in new faces and raising cash for real talent may be another option.
