Dear Managers

This is a sticky thread for all comments, debates, questions regarding BTO. It will also contain any game announcements, rule changes and special bets over the course of the season

Please leave all comments and questions here so the weekly threads can be kept for only fixtures, leaderboard and peoples bets as it greatly makes life easier for BTO admins

cheers all - much appreciated

No worries Ash - im a forgiving man lol

By the way I think I did put something in the rules about people editing 2/3 weeks in a row

I wont check as it probably means youll become bankrupt because of a fine - but be careful yeah as you ruuning close to the wires my friend haha :)

ps and ive got nothing against a good conversation (i often do it myself) but honestly - it makes it much harder for mark and myself when we have to do the new posts of results and fixtures

cheers

Right Chaps - quick update for everyone on the general rules (copied from the rules page)

Dear Managers

Welcome to a new section of FA where you can open a betting account and try and win big on predicting and betting on the weekly selected FA games!

This section denotes all game rules

GAME RULES

NB You can bet on as many matches that week as you like - as long as you have the points to do so!

1. Each applicant upon registering will recieve 200 point into their betting balance and this can be tracked with wins and losses on the leaderboad in the betting section on the FA messageboard
2. All bets have be divisible by one whole point (ie no decimals)
3. You cannot bet with points you do no have in your betting account
4. You cannot bet on a match that invovles your FA team
5. If you lose all your points, you are bankrupt and cannot buy back into the game
6. At the end of the season, winners will receive prizes (TBC). This will be along the lines of cash amounts to your FA bank balance, guranteed youth player etc - we havent decided this yet. Basically it will be enough that people that dont want to be invovled wont be penalised, but a decent reward for people that put the time in
7. You can place your bets in the relevant weekly post in this section under where i post the bets for the selected matches
8. Each week, 2 games will be selected from each league - making a total of 14 matches to pick from
9. Bets will follow real world rules and will be calculated via an odds calculator
10. All decisions and problems can be taken up with myself. If we cannot reach a solution, then FA will step in as mediator. In serious cases - the FA court can become invovled as a last step whose unbias decision will be final
11. No editing of posts is allowed for obvious reasons. If you make a mistake please let me know and that bet will be cancelled but only if it is before the teamsheet deadline
12. ANY editing of posts will immediately result in the forfit of that weeks matches and also the following week aswell. Persistant offenders will have to be removed from the game

Cheers and feel free to message me with any questions

Simon
Arsenal

STARTING FROM THIS WEEK (WEEK 9)

A reminder of point 12 - ANY editing from this week on will resut not only in that weeks bets being void - but a ban from betting the following week as well

Also a new point

13. And editing of posts the first week back from a ban wil result in a fine of £1,000,000 game points, or half your total balance - whichever is the greater

Hopfully that wil stamp it out for good!

cheers

Sim

On the prizes - Are you rethinking the prizes? Because they're still listed as TBC.

Newcs or Killer,

I've just posted by bet but I've put the odds as 1/3 instead of 3/1

Will this void my bet?

just a quickie Sim,

I know you have said the bankrupt managers will be restarted at the half way stage... last season the table was split in half so some of the managers still had money in the split is that the same or should i go bankrupt this week lol

Hey Tony

Last season the bottom league was made up of only those players that had gone bankrupt - it wasnt split in half or anything - it was merely a chance for bankrupt players to "buy back in" like in Poker

So ill do the same this season. I guess if you want to be in the bottom league - you should look to go bankrupt pretty sharpish lol - but the prize money is far less

cheers

Simon

It prob worth having a "risky bet" over the next two weeks rather than in 3 weeks time i guess lol

Wasn't the league spit into 2 exactly, it was just coincidence that it was those with money and those without?

im thinking top of the bottom league would give me a chance rather than trying to make up 16m in the next few weeks.... all my bets are risky especially those with extra 0's lol

How about splitting the league in two exactly but everyone in the second league gets £200 added on instead of just £200? EG. There are 28 teams and the bottom 14 would become the second league and everyone from Ashley @ Torino down would get an extra £200. This would buy bankrupt people back in but Ash would have £540 instead of his current £340. That would mean there would be a reason for people not to put crazy bets in and becoming bankrupt on purpose - particularly as last season in the secons league that extra £340 would have put him in the top 3 I think?!

The only problem with that owuld be that it was a bit harsh on Terry and Beli who are above the cut off point but haven't got that much more than Ash.

BTO Game Update

Congratulations to everyone who scored well this, and commiserations to those that didnt

This week has seen the removal of 3 managers (Steve DE, Dave DE and Chris Hanton)

Steve has rejoined as of this week and as per the rules has been given the same starting balance of £200 as all competitors. Chris is also welcome back at anytime. Likewise for Dave in the unlikely event he rejoins FA

Id also like to remind all members that the reduction of your balance only applies to people who leave the game and rejoin NOT people who move clubs. If you move clubs during a season, your status is updated the week after you move and your balance remains the same. Obviously you then cannot make bets on your new team and can on your old one!

cheers and the new odds for this week (Week 10) have just been put up on the board

Thanks to Mark G as always for computing the results so quickly

Simon

Hey Luke

Course you can mate

It happens during the mid season update in week 11 - so the first "double league" will be week 12

ANYONE who is bankrupt is automatically entered into the bottom tier championship league and starts with a £200 balance. All normal game rules then apply

We already almost have half the original entrants gone bankrupt - so it will be a pretty even split. Some people have plans to "become bankrupt" before week 11 as they fancy there chances better in the bottom league - and there is nothing in the rules to say you cant - and I wont look down on anyone either way

If there is anything else you want to know just ask?

ps there will also be a one off special BTO during the mid season update with some "exotic" and one off bets like league top scorers etc - more details as we get closer to the time

cheers

I do teams of the season and top goalscorer etc and when there is a tie I work my way through the stats (eg form, matches played) but occaisionally there is a tie across the board. Usually I just pick either because at the end of the day it's still the top two spots. But what's going to happen if someone bets on the person who gets the second spot, even though they share the top spot?

In truth Simon - no idea yet mate as I havent had the time to sit down to do them

But was thinking of some general bets (completly made up by me as the odds generator doesnt generate them) like you can bet on Man U to win the league @ 2/3, West Brom at 25-1 etc, top scorer of the championship etc

And then some specific bets on week 12 - like predicted the final score of a selected match as I can pull them from the generator. If it proves a big hit then we can look to do some more if people like them over the course of the season

You make a good point though - and ill have to think of a way to tie break any same bets by managers. Could be in a tie breaker situation:

1. whoever placed the bet first
2. whoever placed more gets the advantage
3. decided by relative postion in the overal table

just thinking out loud really - ill probably put a poll up the week before to see what people want to do

cheers

Sim

Steve

ill change it in a minute matey

Ash

no - only once. During Rich's mid season update in week 11 - anyone that is bankrupt gets to come back in the lower league to play for less money with a starting balance of £200

On the same principle of rebuying into a poker match

cheers
