AC Milan manager Luke Coakley would like to apply for the vacant position of CardiffCity manager (again ).
Achievements to date
Season information ManCity - Season one I took over an unbalanced squad; there was a need for balanced quality throughout. The aim was to bring in good players with potential while recognising the need for results and promotion. The plan was to get promoted and have a base of young players that could keep the club alive and strong enough in the premiership. Our play/off victory guaranteed Premiership football.
Season two This was the toughest season to date and the biggest learning curve of my career. Young players alone were no longer enough so the squad was tweaked and safety guaranteed with room to breath with an 8th place finish. The squad continued to build towards a bright future with talented youngsters and experienced quality players to balance. Season three The chairman asked for a top 6 finish and this was achieved a number of weeks before the end of the season and before I left to join Milan. I left the squad with a mixture of top quality players of varying ages but with a good base of very talented youth.
AC Milan
Season four - A rebuilding season as I took over an aging Milan squad. The age of the squad dropped significantly while the quality remained despite having no investment. This season Milan had a respectable league finish and returned to Europe.
Season five - The squad rebuilding has continued and Milan now have strength in depth in all key areas with an average young average age especially compared with the majority of teams in Italy. The future at Milan is both bright and very exciting and would only the pull of managing my hometime club and the challenge CardiffCity can offer has tempted me to leave.
Why the board should consider me
Strengthens
- I have managed in this division before, gained promotion, survived in the premiership the following season and continued to progress every year in England - this is the aim for CardiffCity.
- I have a wide range of contacts in the game and plan to fully utilise them for CardiffCity.
- Every squad I have managed has been stronger than when I joined the club
- The ability to wheel and deal has to be used at every level to make a success of a club, this has been done at ManCity and Milan and will again be used for CardiffCity.
Overall view of time at Milan
I took over Milan as an aging squad and no longer in a European competition. With the investment of 5million in my time at Milan I have turned the squad around to a young vibrant team and strength in depth in all key positions and in a very strong position to move forward and get stronger over the coming seasons while other clubs in Italy continues to age. I returned the club to Europe in my first full season together with a respectable league position in my season of rebuilding. Although Milan have not progressed in Europe this season they remain in the Italian Cup and pushing for the league title.
Plan at CCFC I have a 3 year plan to make CardiffCity a strong premiership team and believe that can be done. I have had previous success of promotion to the premiership and also showed the ability to survive and move forward in the premiership at ManchesterCity. Managing CardiffCity would be more than a job for me as a fan and can guarantee no one will work harder to see the club progress.
Commitment I can guarantee that you have my committement to CardiffCity for as long as I am wanted at the club and while the chairman still believes progress is being made. For me the job will not be complete until we are winning major honours every season and while this will not happen over night I believe over time this is a long term target that we need to aim for, this club deserves to be aiming for the highest.
