Sheffield United Boss Welcomes in the New Season

Im pleased to get going again and focus on the season ahead instead of missing out on the play offs by losing in the final, its been difficult to take but weve parked it now and ready for an exciting season.

I would especially like to welcome my boyhood club Everton and hope they know we are not going to give them an easy time in league 1, Im looking forward to those fixtures, especially playing at The Old Lady, Goodison Park.

As far as personnel goes we are not looking to sign anybody this year, I have said before I have full confidence in my playing staff and know they will give 100% all season. Having said that if anything comes along that we can look at we will do.

Im pleased to welcome Kyle Naughton to the First Team squad and hope he pushes on to claim a first team regular slot, likewise, young midfielder Zen s-latef.

Christiano Del Grosso remains as Captain this year and club captain is Paddy Kenny.

Im excited about our strikers this year and looking for the best pairing over the season, all can do a job and I will rotate based on their individual talents but Im looking for a better tally this year from the forwards.

Fletcher left to prepare a further training session before tomorrows fixture against Wolves.

Sustainability and Youth key

When Julien Goni fired a superb double to lift Athletico Bilbao back into the top flight of Spanish football it signaled a change in emphasis at the once Spanish heavyweights. Floundering in the lower tier of Spanish football and struggling to connect with the regions characteristically passionate fan base the board turned to controversial boss Mark Rollings. With two promotions under his belt from his Coventry days, and a solid season (including a runner-up medal in the Italian cup) at Sampdoria Rollings had enjoyed modest success. However he has previously found his methods criticized by many respected managers for their short term attitude to squad development, opting for older pros rather than young talent.

It didn't seem a good match - a team longing to rediscover their home grown roots coupling with a manager famed for his preference for elder statesman. It could well be the making of Rollings and Athletico though as Goni's goal provided a flagship moment for his new team and attitude. With Zarandona and Javi Martinez - both Basque natives - also both sparkling on the flanks Rollings has been convinced of the merits of young talent. A fact the welsh boss admitted in his pre-season insert into the club magazine.

"I think you saw a promotion built on home grown talent last season. Yes we brought in Robbie (Keane) and he added some class to our attack but all the goals in our play-off final were scored and assisted by local boys. That is something we want to build on. Julien Goni will get a full season in La Liga now, as will Zarandona. We will look to bring in promising talent throughout Europe so they grow to understand the values of this great club. It makes it difficult to stay up this season but I think its time this club, and myself personally put their faith in youth to move forward."

Asked if he would divulge any of his transfer targets Rollings refused to give too much away.

"We are on a shoe string budget, so we have to box clever. We have identified 4 or 5 players we believe fit what we are trying to do and have submitted formal offers to the appropriate clubs. We are awaiting the response from that but we are hopeful we can secure them. I am delighted to announce that we will be taking a couple of young stars from Man City on loan, but as promised none of our young talent will be blocked from the side. The loans will simply fill in positions we don't have the capital to invest in yet!"

Cadiz C.F. announce new manager

Cadiz Chairman Luis Marti Mingarro has announced that the new Cadiz manager is to be JD Jaques, whose last position was at Italian Serie B club Napoli.

The appointment of Mr. Jaques is seen by the club as a step forward, and it has been said that Mr. Jaques turned down the chance of managing an established Serie A club for the Segunda Division strugglers. It is also rumoured that he has taken a massive pay-cut although official sources won't comment on this.

The normally media friendly Mr. Jaques has not been available for comment. However, the Chairman said that it was only yesterday that an offer had been tabled to Mr. Jaques, and only within the last hour had confirmation come that he had accepted. He is now travelling to Spain to meet the team, although his flight was with a budget airline given the massive debt that Cadiz face. His first task will be to pick the team to face Almeria. It is believed that there is a lot of work to be done to bring the club into financial stability, and Chairman Mingarro stated that

"It will be a test for Mr. Jaques and his capabilities. But it has been made clear to the manager that it is not all about results - the stability of the club into the long term is what the manager has to aim for, and that is not solely about what happens on the pitch."

"This is a new dawn for the club, and we are really quite impressed that Mr. Jaques has chosen us over staying in Italy, where according to what he has told us he was offered a team who have a lot of history and prestige in Serie A."

RE: Week 1

SKY SPORTS NEWS caught up with Spurs boss Richard Jefferies after his teams narrow win over premiership new boys Watford.

SSN  A sensational finish, what are you thoughts on the game ?

RJ  Well i am incredibly relieved to gain all 3 points in a game we looked like losing, but credit to my lads they kept going for 93 mins, its definatley a game we would of lost last year or the year before, but we are stronger and fitter now.

SSN  Xavi scored 2 goals in the last 2 mins, how important is he going to be this year?

RJ  Well i was so pleased to get him last year and he has been so important for this club ever since, Xavi and Berbatov have been leaders on and off the pitch and have brought the young lads on.

SSN  So how is your relationship with the fans and the board ?

RJ It has been a tough couple of years for me since i arrived from Spain and yes it is proving difficult to win over certain sections of the crowd, but that is the same anywhere and i will continue to improve things here each and every year that i'm here. The board have been great and hopefully i can repay their faith by leading this club back to where they should be !
