Administration news

Thanks to all the bidders for the Manchester City players. After this weeks deals the club will be out of administration and it will be down to the new manager as to who he sells/buys. Most people will know of their bidding, although I'm aware a few might not and this probably means you were the top bidder on a player, but were offering a tiny amount (ie.£4 million) hence your deal wasn't picked to go through this final week, to allow Manchester City to have some resemblence of a squad when they came out of administration.

On a final note, people on the whole now know how administration works. Its not a quick process, it is a bidding war, and it is all about money not swaps. That said, as fairly as I try to deal with transfers, if you make an offer then pull out 5 days later, you won't be viewed particularly favourably on any other dealings at that time. When you make a top offer, I contact everyone who has been beaten. By pulling out you destroy that chain. I had a number do this, obviously making multiple scatter-gun offers including some to me, and then pulled out later obviously when one of the others was accepted. If you're not happy to wait 5 days, don't bid. One player in this round of administration had to start bidding all over again from scratch as a result - it wastes my time but also wastes everyone elses time who's trying to bid.

Richard.

I think there should be a system in place for "bad faith" bidders in such circumstances, rather like having a poor credit rating. How severe that sanction should be is another matter. It should apply to people who are unwilling to leave their bid in for the requisite amount of time for the administrator to make a decision but also to those who use the scattergun technique mentioned by FA.

What about if you have been involved in one of these incidents you receive a credit strike which means that if in future you make a bid that is the same as someone with a clean credit record their bid is automatically accepted as a more solid bid?

People who attract more than one poor credit rating could attract additional sanctions. FA would need to decide whether a withdrawn bid was unavoidable or simply the result of reckless bidding.

Somesuch system would also benefit those who "play a straight bat" just as in the wider game you will (if you have any sense) not deal with managers who have been unreliable over transfers with you previously.

Preferably.. submitting a offer via team sheet on a Friday would be easier. Theirs no backing out then.

I would be behind Steve's proposal

Seems a well conceived improvement on the current situation - and rewards decency and fairplay without overly punishing genuine errors

Hopefully it would replicate the same mantra as non FA deals - be careful - as your word is your bond and as such has ramifications!

Cheers

Never thought id say this but i do agree with Steve !

BUT (theres allways 1)

In Man Citys case, offers made was not answered for 2 if not 3 weeks(understandably because of the size of the club, the huge amount of offers and work needed). In that amount of time at the start of the season the game just moves to quick and things like this cant be stuck to

I agree with Gareth. I was guilty of being offered a player at the other club in administration at that time and when successful I did not have a slot to take him that week. It happens. Early season when you are rebuilding a side is a busy time, and waiting days for an answer on a player just dosn't work for me. You can miss other bargains.
I appreciate that it is a long process but it would be nice to know you had a chance.
Having no chance at all means you can move on.

Whilst I am moaning I must mention that I am surprised at the number of managers who play this game and do not bother to even answer correspondance. The response rate this season has been 40%. I think it is rude to ignor a message.

Some have replied with a question and then never answered my reponse.

My thanks go to all managers who did answer, many times just to say No, and the deals that were agreed, that is what the game is about.

Maybe the answer is to change the bidding system on clubs in administration.

Perhaps if you are interested in a player or players you submit one bid on each player during a bidding window of say a week. Your bid should be what you are willing to pay and can afford - that then stands as your bid. It is in effect a sealed envelope bid. FA could list a minimum bid amount for each player to give people a starting point and avoid any stupid bids that will be too low to consider.

At the end of the week FA review all bids and the highest bids get the players. FA could either then notify managers of which week their transfer will occur - either straight away, second week etc.

1.This system would I think generally bring in more money for clubs in administration.
2.Get them out of administration more quickly and with less damage to their squad.
3.Be quicker - and so resolve some of the managers concerns listed in posts above.
4.Get rid of a lot of the time consuming process for FA.
5.Reduce wasted time by stopping people changing interest as you would now have to restrict your choice to those you really want and can afford.
6. Also get rid of the time consuming incremental bidding which currently occurs.
7.Help the general transfer market as managers won't have to sit on funds for weeks waiting to see if their bids on players under administration have or haven't been successful.

All great ideas Steve. The only issue I see that may cause managers concern in bidding for players is that only 3 can leave the club each week. Some managers may be reluctant to wait 2 - 3 weeks for a player.

To combat this, and get the club out of administration quicker, would it not be simpler to have 1 week to bid on a player or players and then the club can sell all players (whether it be 1, 3 or more in that week) until the debt is cleared. I propose that more than 3 deals can be done only for teams that are in administration.

I would go along with that Steve.
The only problem is that it is probably more timetables and pressure for Rich.

I am grateful for everything he does, it can't be easy.

Have to be honest I wasn't overally happy with the way this administration worked.
I was prepared to offer more than others, replied to emails within an hour and kept spaces every week and still managed to miss out on all the players I was looking at and in turn its meant I have missed out on other players.

Closed bidding I don't feel would work as too many people are looking for a bargain, and I don't believe it'd raise cash which is what administration is all about.

On that note about trying to get bargains, people who miss out but would have bid more... why don't you bid more. If you bid £50 million the moment the club goes into administration, you'd pretty much guarentee you get the player you want. The reason people don't is they'll start the bidding at say £5 million, and slowly work the way up. If you only out bid someone by £0.1-£0.5 million a bid, obviously the amount will go up slow and people will keep bidding. Manchester City have been in administration 3 weeks now, thats plenty of time to put your top offer in. If you try and get a bargain, you risk losing out. Thats your choice I can only deal with the bids I get.

Richard.

I like Steve's ideas a lot. It's a similar scenario to when i bought my house a few months ago, the owner wanted a quick sale and so set the price very low to generate interest, we were asked to put in our 'best and final' offer as this was the quickest and easiest way to give the seller what they wanted. In our case we were the second highest offer but the person that was highest was not in a good a position as us so he accepted our offer, this could be applied to teams in administration; if the highest bidding club are not in a position to do the deal within a week or two then the player should go to the next highest bidder who can do the deal asap, meaning that each player is sold asap with all three slots being filled each week and the maximum amount of money being brought in as the best offer is accepted.

Whatever happens it needs to be a system which prevents managers continually bidding on players or removing bids and shortening the time Rich spends sorting through stuff. They both come hand in hand because if he has less mails he will respond to the ones he does have sooner, allowing things to be sorted quicker and then both Rich and bidding managers are happy.
