Week 5

The recently media shy JD Jaques spoke to the press today following his Cadiz sides 2-1 win against a decent Real Zaragoza side.

Press "Did you expect to win the game this weekend?"

JD "Honestly - no. I thought we would do well to get a draw against them. They have some highly rated players compared to those in our squad."

Press "So what do you think made the difference?"

JD "Well our tactics remained as normal, because when we adjust them we always create few chances, so it won't be down to that. I think the team spirit in the camp is on the up. Ever since Joaquim [Millan] got promoted to the first team, the team has done well. The boy has a lot of talent, and in previous seasons we would have had to have sold him, but thankfully the club can now hold onto him. He got both assists this week, and is improving all the time"

Press "So no plans to sell players then?"

JD "Well we are bringing in a loan signing in a couple of weeks, and we are just awaiting the confirmation that Giai Pron is on his way here. We paid out what some people would think is quite a lot of money for him, but I think he is a sound investment for us, and was in an area that was crying out to be strengthened. But to answer the question - we will be reviewing the squad to see if any sales could be made in the next few weeks."

Press "So you now find youselves in 5th place in the league. Can you climb higher?"

JD "As long as I have been at Cadiz this is the highest we have ever been. The season has only just started, so it is early days. But we are pleased with where we are. If we can continue our form that would be excellent, but this is not an easy league. We would be over the moon if we could make the play offs, considering we were rock bottom a few seasons ago. We play Real Murcia in the cup and I think our fans are expecting to see us in Round 2, and we hope we will be!"

Press "Any comments on recent interest in buying out the club?"

JD "The previous Chairman Mark Galeozzi brought me back into management following a spell on the touchlines, and I enjoyed working with him. Luke Coakley then took over, which at the time caused me some concern as you never know what a new Chiarman expects. So any talk of a takeover always causes some concern."

"If someone does come in then they would need to be careful that they do not expect too much too soon. A figure of £15m to buy a club like this is not a small amount of money and they would expect a return on that investment. But they would need to be patient, as I believe this club is beginning a slow but steady rise. If a new Chairman came in and made unrealistic demands I would not hesitate to look for a challenge somewhere else, even though I have seen this club through the hard times and it would be good to be here when they succeed."

Press "Some strong words there!"

JD "Well only honest words. You can only work at a club if you are happy and do not feel under extreme pressure. As I say although I have been faithful to this club ,and for the time being will continue to be so. If things changed for the worse then I would be the first person to take the door out, probably followed by a number of the young players here."

Press "And any views on the large number of clubs in administration, especially as you saved Cadiz from almost certain extinction?"

JD "Only that some may struggle to sell players to clear debts. The key is the manager and Chairman working closely together to clear the debts."

Press "Nice to catch up - its not very often we hear from you these days."

JD "Often enough I think! Cheers guys."

(Q) How confident were you feeling going into the game on Friday?
(A) Looking at Wigan's strikerforce, I was pretty confident in that fact we could halt there striker and grab a win.

(Q) Were you pleased with the performance of your team?
(A)  Very pleased, this was the second time we had gone a few goals behind, but this time we have the quality to win the match.

(Q) How do you feel the season has started for your team?
(A) Sluggish but hopeing for it to emprove pretty soon! There are faces coming and going which could determin our season.

(Q) How will you be approaching the domestic Cup competition this season?
(A) Thanks for reminding me.. haha, our main priority this season will be the league! So, there will be a mixture of players playing in the cup this week, a chance to prove themselves.

(Q) Do you believe you can win it?
(A) Yeah why not! Always aim to be the best!

(Q) Are you satisfied with the first month of football in the new season?
(A) 50/50, like I said with new faces coming and going it should kickstart our season! Luigi Scotto looks set to be a dime for us this season so I can see us pushing on now.

(Q) How is your ticketing policy going to effect the fans this season?
(A) Ticket prices will remain the same, I deal with the team and thats all !

(Q) How confident were you feeling going into the game on Friday?

(A) Actually we are always confident, we knew that Milan are one of the best teams in the world but my lads are never in awe.

(Q) Were you pleased with the performance of your team?

(A) For 80 minutes yes, we worked hard but this defeat proves you have to do that for 94 minutes every game.

(Q) How do you feel the season has started for your team?

(A) From the point we got in the first match to now, not great, we will continue to work hard and try to get enough points on the board.

(Q) How will you be approaching the domestic Cup competition this season?

(A) Its a bif competition for us so we will be giving it our best shot, we made the semi finals last year and Napoli would like to go further than that.

(Q) Do you believe you can win it?

(A) Yes, we know what it takes now so we will be playing to win.

(Q) Are you satisfied with the first month of football in the new season?

(A) Not really no, I would have liked a win on the board.

(Q) How is your ticketing policy going to effect the fans this season?

(A) They now have what they wanted in Serie A, they are fantastic fans and they are seeing us playing some elite teams so we appreciate their commitment.

The recently and unusually quiet Sevilla manager Liam Riste gave an exclusive interview this morning to Sevilla FC Television about their current start to the season and a look at what potentially the next 18 weeks has to offer.

SFCTV: Well firstly, you have already played and norrowly lost to Real Valladolid, how crutial is that to your campaign?

LR: Well he had a go and we were edged on the day. It's not that damaging as we managed to take 4 points from the last season which gives us the confidence and knowledge that they are beatable. We have to just cut out dropping silly points against weaker opposition which we did last season.

SFCTV: You recently beat your good friend Ashley Harris in a 4-1 win over Espanyol, you must be pleased with that?

LR: Bragging rights kept. It's a special game for us as we're both competitive and enjoy the banter which comes with a game like that. The win was the most important thing although Victor Moses welcoming the return of Ash and thanking him for everything he learnt under his management at Zaragoza was extremely funny; welcome back and watch me bang two past you... lol priceless.

SFCTV: Recently Ashley Harris has been criticised for his team selection and current league position, harsh or justified?

LR: Well I'd say harsh. He's signed a lengthy contract at the club which gives him job security so he can focus on building for the future. Young players are his focus and developing youth, like the majority of managers. He'll be the first to admit he has dropped 2 points against Real Sociedad but tough fixtures have given a false impression of his season so far. Make judges after week 11 at the half-way stage, then if he's still in the relegation, it becomes justified.

Emphasis is on fitness and he has just followed the trend of nearly every other manager; rest players against the big teams, risk a hiding like he took at Barcelona, but the players are fitter for crutial games against teams around him. It's frustrating as Valladolid and Barcelona have easier games and tend not to drop many points. On rare occasions this works for me too, however, not as frequently as I'd like lol

SFCTV: You've been fairly active in the transfer window lately, any other news?

LR: Yep. Bin Laden is dead...

SFCTV: Very funny, any other news with regards to transfers for Sevilla, as speculation has it that Ashley Harris is trying to take Kaka from you who is unwanted?

LR: Enough of the talibanter for now. Just to clarify, Kaka is wanted at Sevilla and Ash isn't signing Kaka.

There are a few players set to leave soon and that money will be used to bring a new addition to the club. I have been trying desperately to sign a player but negotiations have recently broken down, so we'll have to see what the scouting window offers.

SFCTV: So what about the remainder of the season for you and Sevilla?

LR: I have a contract until the end of the season and I'll be looking at trying to earn an extension. However, I've gambled at focussing on youth, although it's a balancing act and it seems to be working fairly well so far. Villa seems to be bringing the best out of Moses who has scored 7 in three with 2 assists, playing at an average rating of 10! We'll have to see what the season has in store, but many have predicted us to drop out of the top 3, which I have no intention of doing!

SFCTV: Well it was great to catch-up with you and good luck for the season.

LR: Cheers.

Siena  News

I thought that when I met the Siena manager this evening he would have that gloomy look on his face. Surprisingly that wasnt the case. .

PRESS

You dont seem too unhappy with the result tonight?

TERRY

No I am not too disappointed I do see the Domestic Cup as a distraction this year. My main aim is to get promotion. You should have spotted that with the team selection. It was more about giving the youngsters a run out.

PRESS

You play Brescia again at the weekend?

TERRY

Yes and I think you will find that the game on Friday will be different altogether. We have noted their strengths and weaknesses and we will be working on the game plan first thing in the morning.

PRESS

Did Salvatore complete the transfer move?

TERRY

Trovato Salvatore joined us over the weekend from Parma and may figure in the Brescia match. We also have Robert Eagle coming in this week to complete the restructuring of the midfield. I am confident that we will be for better equipped and much more of an attacking force from next week.
