BRESCIA - SIENA
Monday 19th September

Sky Sports Italy attended the pre match build up to the playoff leg between Brescia and Siena. The two teams that finished 4th and 5th will face even sterner opposition when the winner has to meet Ascoli or Atalanta in the final.

"Siena were talking of confidence going into the playoffs and I think every manager will have some confidence. We all come in on the end of a good season so why not. There are bigger teams and smaller teams, some that have obviously been better financed than others but at the end of the day it comes down to one game now not a season. We have to believe we can win or what is the point of turning up."

Brescia Calcio S.p.A. has enjoyed a good run of four wins back to back and the fans are in boyant mood.

"The fans have promised to make it a night to remember and we want to do the same. The moment the Siena players come out in front of our fans they will know all about what a big game is really about. All the experience in the world can't prepare them for this. Our fans are going to make it a fortress in there and my players plan to be the only ones coming out alive."

Siena  News

Sienas season is finished. Terry Manifold is left to consider his future as his team lose to Brescia at the first hurdle.

Terry .

We gave it al we had, we even scored first but, we weren't good enough.

Brescia deserve the win and we wish them all the best for the match against Atalanta.

PRESS.

What went wrong this evening you were so positive this morning?

Terry.

Not sure really we certainly went into the match to win it. Tactically Tom had the edge tonight. I can't blame the lads I thought they performed well.  It did highlight the problem I have been trying to solve for a long while now, that of adding a couple of class players. Siena need an experienced centre back and a Playmaker to organise and maximise the chances we are beginning to make. The future cant' be bad for this side given that sort of injection.

PRESS.

What now then Terry?

Terry.

I am going to sit down with the Chairman over the next couple of days and discuss the future. I do still have a another season left on my contract. I am not going to rush into making a hasty decision it will be a carefully thought out career move. Siena certainly deserve more and if staying here will achieve that, it is still an option. They may not want me.

PRESS.

Will you be putting a side out this Friday?

Terry.

Yes if I can find a suitable friendly, we will start the planning for Sienas next campaign.

ATALANTA MANAGER SPEAKS AHEAD OF PLAY-OFF FINAL

SSN Mr Price how are you feeling after last nights game?

DP We are feeling really good that even though we had a player sent off we were able to win the game and get revenge for last seasons semi final defeat.

SSN Looking forward to Fridays game against Brescia how are you and your players feeling?

DP Well we know we are going to be in for a really hard game, But I feel we have a squad good enough to win it will all come down to how the players feel and cope with the pressure on Friday.  We thought we would have been playing Brescia to be honest with you it would have been great if we could have played Siena as I feel we could have beaten them no problem no disrespect intended Tezza.

SSN You once again have taken full advantage of the loan market will you be doing this next season?

DP Yes hopefully we will we may have some loans already lined up but it depends on what league we are in next season.

SSN Thank you for your time Mr Price and good luck from everyone at Sky Sports News for Friday.

DP Thank you and we will speak soon

Foxes seek Premier stay

Leicester City boss Mark Rollings has warned clubs in England's top league that his young side are determined to make the new league their permnanent home after a successful season saw the Foxes follow Portsmouth up in second place in the Championship.

"We haven't put all the work in to go and get relegated next season, and the aim is very simple. Both the chairman and I have aspirations for growing this club beyond these moments, and believe that we have the talent and resources to keep momentum going. We have a terrific group of young players and they will not fear the step up. They are constantly improving and will relish the challenge.'

With regards to pre-season planning Rollings remained tight lipped.

"As we did last season the chairman and I will sit down and talk about how we see the best way to progress. Once again I would envisage us utilising the loan market in key areas but I also would have thought that we will look to bring some in on a permnanent basis. We apply a very precise approach to transfers and target specific players rather than go around chucking in offers everywhere. It may be that we see if some of those players we have our eye on are available at a suitable price but we will wait and see. The deal always has to be right for Leicester City.

Roma boss talks about the goings on in the Italian club...and
...transfers, loans and Real Be
tis.

Jop has opened up about the disappointment of not being able to find a manager for Real Betis yet.
"I can understand why managers wouldn't be interested when I first took over but with Roma guaranteeing a few top class players and youngsters there on loan and me giving a manger a stress free job with no targets and money to spend makes me feel disappointed. Maybe its the thought of working with me a s chairman, i'm not sure."

He goes on to talk about the loans going out and coming in next season and transfers.
"As I mentioned there are a few going out to Real Betis, players which I believe will help them finish top six. I am leaving Gaetano go back to Atalanta with Pricey as part of a deal to bring in Carvalho, but we will also be losing goalkeeper Ximun and striker Vaughan, who as been smashing them in for Paul at Atletico, to fund the deal."

"To cover Ximun going out we have secured a loan for De Gea from Paul at Atletico, he's a top keeper even at this age and will help us push the top 3 this season. One other player coming in at the moment is Martyn Waghorn from Liverpool, again another very talented striker who is young and will help us push on again."

He mentions a few positions he is still looking for.
"We would like to capture a good passing centre midfielder and a good tackling centre back, but to do this we may send a scout abroad."

He finishes with his expectations for Real Betis and Roma this coming season.
"Real Betis I believe can upset a few in that league, if we get a manager in then I think they can get promoted. My job here at Roma is very tough as this league has some super teams like Genoa and the might Juventus, but I believe we can pip AC Milan this season and if we start well who knows a place higher than this year will be a great achievement for my young team."

PRICE RALLIES TROOPS

Manager Dale Price spoke today ahead of his sides Seria B play-off final against Brescia

Italian Sports News (ISN) Mr Price you and your team are here in Rome for the match tonight how are you all feeling?

DP We are feeling good we have had a good couple of days training after I give the lads Tuesday off to rest after the semi final win. Me and the team got to the capital yesterday after noon so we would have time to relax and prepare mentally for tonights game.

ISN Many are putting you as favourites tonight is that how you see it?

DP No I dont Quite the opposite I feel that Brescia are the favourites.  They were a Seria A side last season and were piped by many myself included to go right back up at the start of the season. They have a very good side that will always score goals our job will be to try and stop that happening the first goal tonight will be very important though and I wouldnt be surprised if this went on to pens.

ISN How do you feel fans will react to the news that Daniel Carvalho will be leaving in the very near future?

DP Hopefully they will see that Daniel leaving is for the good of the club.  We have sorted a deal out that will help Atalanta next season no matter which division we are in. We were in need of a good goal keeper and a good striker and the deal that was offered to us by the Roma manager was a very good one, Ximun is a top keeper and one we are very proud to welcome to the club, James Vaughan is a player that we have had our eye on for a while now he has had a very successful loan spell at Athletico Madrid and we wish him all the best in the Europa League final tonight so he can come to us with confidence on the back of that cup win but one thing that really swung the deal for me was the opportunity to have Cutugno Gaetano back on loan to us for another season he is a young man that we have been very impressed with this season and we hope he could have another good season next year.

ISN Mr Price this is your 4th time in the play-offs how would winning this compare to your other times.

DP Well as I have only managed to win the final once back in my first season with Norwich this will rank very highly.  Last seasons disappointment with Atalanta in the play-offs was because we were just not ready for it and in a way Im glad we lost to ascoli as I dont think I would have got together the squad I have before me today.

ISN Mr Price its been a pleasure as always good luck for your match tonight and hopefully we can catch up tomorrow to get your post game thoughts

DP Yep hopefully I will be able to talk to you as a new Seria A manager

Watford manager Richard Jefferies spoke to waiting media about this season and his thoughts for next year.

Q So are you pleased with your finishing position.

RJ Not really, we really wanted a top 6 finish but missed out by conceeding a late goal in the final game, the team have played well but i just feel we are missing that bit of depth of quality to finish higher.

I am looking at bringing in some young loanees for next season to bolster my squad, that is of course if anyone is willing to loan me any, it seems its not what you know but who you know that helps you get some decent deals coming in.

Most managers just think they can steal my best players with low offers, if we are going to compete i have to keep my best young talent and try to build the future around that.

Q You seem slightly upset with certain things

RJ Upset ? no, frustrated then maybe yes. Its really hard for clubs like ours to move forward, we don't have pots of money or loads of younsters coming thru and that means we are always fighting to compete, thats why i'm trying to bring loan players in, but as it stands have only had one offer, the same clubs always seem to get the decent loans, maybe we are in the wrong part of the country to get some good offers.

Q So what plans for next year

RJ Well we be in trying hard again, a couple of my younsters will be going off to Torino to try and give them a boost and we will try to improve what we have with whatever cash we might see from the chairman.

Thanks

Rumours around Jaques

There are a number of rumours flying about regarding the former Cadiz manager JD Jaques. One is that following a breakdown in negotiations with Reggina he made an attempt to open talks again with the Italian team, but it is not clear whether that was successful as it does not appear that he is in Italy. It is being reported by some of the press that he was in talks with a Spanish team, but BBC Sport is suggesting that he may have accepted a contract with an English club. His whereabouts are not clear on the verge of the new season.

RE: Week 23

gun__1214834404_arsenaltv_logo.jpg
Jamie Walker spoke exclusively to Arsenal TV this weekend at the end of a long hard season for his young Gunners.
"This season has been a really big step up for a lot of the players. We are a very inexperienced team and have a lot of young players in their first season of professional football still and they all had to play against some of the best players in world football in this league. We were never going to challenge the big teams above us but to hang on to fourth was important for all of us and it gives us a good platform to build from next season. We have so many talented young players I have to sit down with them all and pick the players who are talented enough for Arsenal and the ones who can still make a great career out of football at other teams. Real Murcia are a club desperate for young talent so a young player not making it at Arsenal is not the end of the road for them and I think that is important for them not to lose hope."
News broke yesterday about an approach from Real Madrid so Jamie Walker told the fans where he stood on the offer.
"I was approached by Real Madrid. It is a big club going through tough times. I have always been open about my time at Arsenal and the moment the chairman no longer sees the future of Arsenal in the same way I see it I will leave. This is a project for me and right now I have no burning ambition to win any trophies. If I can build Arsenal into the biggest richest club in the world turning over the most money every season and with a squad full of players brought through our own youth system then I will have achieved my goals here. It was for these reasons I respectfully rejected the offer from Real Madrid earlier today. They are offering a lot of money to get a new manager in but I have been at teams who demanded trophies and I have won them. Arsenal is something new and exciting still."

JD Jaques is announced as new manager of Wolves

The former league one side Wolves have confirmed the appointment of the former Cadiz manager JD Jaques as their new manager after having being promoted to the Championship following their play-off final win.

Mr Jaques spoke to the press today outside Molyneux and said that his target was to establish the club in the Championship, whilst reducing the overall age of the squad. He said that he was relishing the challenge. He also indicated that some of the older players may be sold or released to reduce the overall wage bill, but that he was unlikely to bring many players in on loan given that Wolves would have to foot the wages of such players.

RE: Week 23

"Fletcher done good"

How pleased are you with the way Andy has managed Napoli?

"I got Andy in because I thought he was a manager with huge potential but had been passed over for a bigger job. Getting a good manager in the bottom league is tough so from day one Napoli were thankful for him giving us the time of day. He has worked patiently with what was available and the money Ive put in has been spent in the right way building to a brighter future. The success this season is a sign of all that hard work starting to work"

What does the future hold for Andy?

"I took the time to talk with him in the last two weeks and he will be staying with us for another season if not longer. Next season he has the chance to really look up the table and not worry about the drop. At the end of the season Ive agreed to give him the chance to leave if he wants to move on to a new challenge because he could have won attention from a huge team by then and for all the hard work he has done for my team I wouldnt want to stand in his way"

What can Napoli realistically do next season?

"The top two places are probably off limits and AC Milan and Lazio are so strongly supported too but below that I think everything is up for grabs. There will be no pressure on Andy next season with targets but I really think he can look as high as fifth place and that would be such an achievement from where this all began"
