Raymond Farnell - Lazio were expected to run away with the division backed with their millionaire owners and while a 3 point margin might not have been what was expected they still secured automatic promotion at the top of the table with the best defence in the division. In the Italian Cup they made it as far as the quarter-finals before being knocked out by reigning champions Juventus.
Amilcar Vasquez - Catania were expected to threaten the play-offs at best this season after years of unimpressive solidity. Surprisingly it was Catania who pushed super rich Lazio all the way this season only finishing a win behind, and a comfortable 9 points ahead of 3rd. Their Cup performance was less impressive though going out in Round 1 to an Udinese team that failed to even make the Serie B play-offs.
