Siena  News

We are hearing reports that Siena have been let down badly with an offer last season to become a feeder club for Valencia.

Terry Manifold is fuming.

We managed to get a quick interview with Terry this evening.

PRESS.

What gone wrong Terry?

Terry.

I have learned a lesson today about trust.

I have been working for the past few weeks towards building a team with a belief that up to 4 loan players would be joining us. That is not now going to happen. I feel as though I have been mugged!

PRESS.

What now then Terry?

Terry.

I am going to have to restart the whole process and see what other loans are available out there, Loans to a team like Siena are very important, they bolster up a side and allow the Manager a little time to work on improving the overall set up.

PRESS.

Will that spoil your plans for the first game this weekend?

Terry.

No I wouldnt say that, but it has set us back a few weeks, unless of course, we can find other available loans. That will not be easy as the earlier available loan players have now been fixed.

You do get used to disappointments in football management.

Be Careful

"Siena can postpone promotion celebrations another season"

How have you reacted to the accusations made at you by Siena tonight?

"I feel like Terry has taken me for a ride. Last season I was talking about sending him 4 players on loan to help him out. He had told me he was frustrated with the support or lack of it he was getting from his own chairman John at Chelsea with no top loans as he said and that he was thinking of leaving. I said I might be able to help because I thought he was a reliable manager and if he stayed at Siena or moved I would be willing to link up with him"

Should you be admitting that he said these things about his chairman?

"If he wants to hang his dirty laundry in public he must be happy for his chairman to know what he says behind his back"

If you were willing to give Siena 4 players why is he saying you pulled out of the deal?

"I think he has enjoyed 1 too many of Sienas finest bottles of Italian wine tonight. I came back to him this weekend after the update to find out which 4 he wanted from a list so I knew who to find homes for in other teams. His response was that he wanted to pick 2 players from that list"

Are you saying Terry pulled out of the deal?

"I wouldnt say he was pulling out but he was doing what every other manager tries to do at first. I try and send players out in a group to help the team they are going to and straight away managers try and hand pick the best 1 or 2 players from the group and dont want to take the rest. The discussion was always to send a core of 4 Terry moved to goalposts and is now upset because I found another trustworthy manager I have history with who would take the  whole core of 4"

It seems like your word against his?

"Take a look at some of the quotes and see what you think. Im not telling people he pulled out or not but people can make their own minds up"

Stu before the end of last season:"If a group of maybe 4 Valencia players on loan is some thing you might like you are a manager I would feel happy backing in such a way."

Stu after the update: "You said you wanted 4 players to create a core to your team. What positions were they?" "I have  Joel, Inigo Rodriguez, Isco, Dag Alexander Olsen and Abel Hernandez.  I ask about positions because you have some good players in the positions these young players are in so might not want them"

He has a very good right back similarly rated to Joel who I was offering so I wanted to work out which of the 4 players on offer he wanted

Terrys response: "I would love to take Joel and Isco. Isco will play in every available game. Joel will play every game that I can use my LB Sanchez."

"Terry has fallen victim of trying to hand pick the best bits of my offer of help. I had to work very hard today to set up a different deal after this because teams are going around agreeing loans and him messing me about cost me. I thought it was all a matter of agreeing the 4 he wanted so today has been hard work thanks to him"

"On top of that what annoyed me is he wasnt even willing to play Joel in every game. He wanted to drop him in games he only wanted to play centre backs in. He knew my loan players would have to play every game they were fit for. That has always been the deal in every loan I have set up. Managers regularly talk to me in the middle of a loan spell if for some reason they need to drop my loan player and I always let them because they always have a good reason for it usually in a big cup game. I do all I can to help the team out but Terry was already trying to weed his way out of the basic agreements"

Will this put you off using the loan system?

"No. I try to stay on good terms with even the managers I cant help with loans but who ask for help. Some managers I keep returning to because they do a good job and are very trustworthy. Why should these decent people lose out on free loan players just because Terry got grumpy?"

Any final words to Terry?

"If he doesnt have the manners to stick to an agreement and then goes running to the public arena before discussing it with me he can stay in Serie B and remain obscure to the world. I get on well with John and I hope he sees the light. Siena are going nowhere this season and John only has one person to blame for making his team stagnant. People like Terry make me even more grateful for having Andy in charge of Napoli"

Bolton Wanderers bolster attack for the forthcoming Championship season.

Bolton, today have confirmed the signing of four players from Spanish outfit Valencia. Manager Ashley Davies had a few very successful loans last year, from the team managed by Stuart Price.

Olsen scored 10 and created 8 during his 20 match spell in England.

After Boltons relegation from the Premier League, their ageing squad needed a quick turnaround. After a number of movements the team now has an average age of 23.

Also due to their relegation, Bolton have no money to spend so loans would be the only option.

The four new loan signings sees the club bring back 3 players here last year and a new addition. Right back Joel, centre midfielder Rodriguez and striker Olsen arrive at the club along with teenage sensation Isco hoping to give Bolton the cutting edge to take them back to the Premier League.

Last season was very up and down, having another year on my contract I now have the chance to put together a team that I feel can take us places and with Stus help, we could see Bolton return to where they should be

Wolves looking forward to challenge ahead

Wolves manager JD Jaques spoke to BBC Sport this afternoon.

"I am looking forward to the challenge here at Wolves. Some would say that we face a difficult test in the Championship being the side who got promoted via the play offs, and it will be an interesting time managing back in England. I made some mistakes during my time at Cardiff, but those were valuable lessons. The goals set by the board include to reduce the overall age of the squad, which is something that will be happending straight away. Some of the older players will be leaving the club, but we will be welcoming some younger faces into the team too. We have secured the loan of Mario Marotta from Napoli for the first part of the season, who is a young talent and I would like to thank Andy Fletcher for his help with that."

"Obviously for a club of our size it is important to balance the books. Having managed Cadiz from almost being on the point of collapse I think it is fair to say that this is an aspect of management that I am confident about. It will therefore come as no surprise to our fans that we will have to be careful about the number of players we take on loan. Also we will be reviewing ticket prices. But I am pleased to announce that we will be extending Molyneaux this season to ensure that fans who have been unable to get tickets to games in the past have a better opportunity to secure them, and there will be ample oppotunities for those interested in sponsership deals. Fans will also be able to enjoy a larger club shop this season with more tempting offers available to them such as half price away shirts when buying the new Wolves home shirt."

"Another part of the brief for me was to invest in young players. That is something that I will be doing when it is possible. However, given our cashflow, a youth academy is not planned for this season. It is something that will be a very serious consideration next season though."

"It is going to be a tough league this year and no games will be easy. We start with two tough away games at West Ham and West Brom. It is going to be a long wait for the fans before we play at home which is unfortunate, but I am sure that the atmosphere against Everton in the first game of the season at Molyneaux will be fantastic. It's going to be interesting with so many derbys in the Championship this season, and those we take part in are games that I will particularly relish."

Blackburn Rovers 1-3 Bolton Wanderers

Jose-Mourinho-celebrates-at-Chelsea.jpg

(Bolton manager & staff celebrate)

Goals from captain marvel Lee Cox & Tope Obadeyi ensured all 3 points on the opening game of the season.

Bolton Wanderers today have won a competitive match with a bit of class as manager Ashley Davies described. Two thunder bolts of  shot's from man of match Lee Cox showed the manager he made the right decision in not shipping the midfielder out on loan, and by making him team captain.

Today we picked up a very sweet tasting 3 points, whether or not the opposition played one defender, nobody can take away our great performance. Over the next few weeks the squad will change again, adding in-depth quality and if the opening game was anything to go by, ill cry. Every player clicked together and this is what I was hoping to see, a bit earlier on into my Bolton career.
