I'm not a Liverpool fan but sacking Rafa would be soooo stupid! He's taken Liverpool to the cusp of Title contenders from the 2bit team that they were under Gerard Houliier! Can I also add that Liverpool fans bang on about anting to Win the Premiership as they've already won the Champs League, Would it be such a bad thing to go ou of the Camps League - I'd say they would have their best chance of the Premiership in years with only the league to concentrate on.
He's a good manager and yes he's spent alot but he's also got alot of top quality players in that need to gel. You've now got a board behind you with money and a striker in Torres than any team in the world would take so how about giving the guy abit of a break, Every team goes through a bad run - Maybe it will lead to the Premiership title???
I agree. Im not the biggest fan of sacking managers over short term results
Rafa seems a good manager with an impressive set of records. I do feel his rotation policy is deeply flawed though. Not the fact that he does it - but in the way he does. He seems to do it on a whim with no thought to current form - and to be honest - do we need to be resting players so early in the season? seems crazy to me.................
Liverpool are far stronger now with a board backing the gaffer with hard cash and some great signings (and some poor ones too). They just still have serious places where new players are needed - and the current run seems only really relevant due to the poor form of some players you can normally build a house on (Hypia and Finnan spring to mind)
On the subject, feel sorry for Martin Jol at the minute as its the team letting him down and will probably get him the sack - whereas he himself has been exemplorary in the face of some pretty ****ty treatment
Dont sack either if you ask me - although id be lying if it wouldnt make my day to Spurs go down this season lol
I think they should get Phil Thompson, then get Mourino with thomo as his No 2. I think Rafa has lost the plot, fair enough he has got Lpool to 2 champ league finals winning 1 of them, but as far as winning the league is concerned he is no nearer. With top class players in the team they should not need time to gel, he is changing the team too much.
Its about more than top class players though isnt it? Lets be fair - all the top teams have world class players but its how they play that really counts. Look at my boys since Henry left - what a team they have become when they fight for each other like tooth and nail
It takes a lot to win a title over 38 games ( i know from player managing in my sunday league lol) - and i think Rafa has made them twice as solid as when he took over so talk of sacking him seems a bit premature and /or unfair
there is also the pressure of history. how long since Liverpool won the title? he has to face that each season - dont forget it took Fergie quite some time to get Man Utd on track and he came dangerously close to the sack - look at them now
A lot of the new blood are in their first season - and dont forget that with both Bergkamp and Henry (and even Viera) everyone needs time to setle themselves
Personally id like to see him gel the team in this year, and he can be judged on next seasons results. He will have had more than enough time to prove his worth by then
In some ways i do agree, but the Lpool board and fans expect a serious push for the tittle this season. I think it may be a blessing is disguise if they go out of the champ league, it means that there will be no excusses for THE REST OF THE SEASON.
In any normaly situation, winning the Champions League would cement his cult status at a club. But it's those very questionable transfers (Benayoun? Lucas?), odd substitutions (Gerrard off because he wants someone on to pass the ball?), and the fact that he doesn't seem to take the Premiership seriously at all, that could well cost him his job.
If he only paid a bit more attention to the league I'm sure they'd do very well and he'd be worshipped.
Looks like Rafa might be going at the end of the season which is bad for me as a blue because i can't see them ever winning the league under Rafa!!!! I dont like the man though, and most of my red mates dont anymore either. Some of the things he has said to the media after derby games have been ill advised (e.g. small club jibes) and plain stupid (kuyt kung-fu on neville wasnt a bad challenge)
Question is who would they get to replace him??? And will the Americans be leaving any time soon, rumours are that they cant afford to pay off the loan they took to buy the club.
Agree about Benayoun rich, add Aurelio, Voronin and Pennant. Torres must be getting annoyed about playing about half their games, and about strange tactcis to play 4-5-1 with him on his own.
Rob.

I expect Rafa will be gone end of season at the latest. Maybe when they crash out of the Champions League though as thats the only one they ever look like winning.
Aurelio is a good player I think, but they buy too many average players people like Voronin and Benayoun are never top 6 standard players in England.
One question - why do Liverpool struggle to bring through young talents?
Le Tallec and Pongolle were top youth prospects in world football prior to spending time at Liverpool. Agger was talked about as the next best centreback... then he moved to Liverpool and nothing!! Who was the last young player to be brought through? Gerrard and Carragher? I think it says a lot about the state of their set up really.
I had said at the start of the season I thought Man City and Liverpool would mix it up in the top 4. Liverpool have been a massive let down so I'm thankful Man City tip is turning out good.
I knew Martin Petrov was a good buy as I'd seen him in his Atletico days and he is a superb player. I was surprised at City because I thought their GK problems would let them down, Isaksson not up to the Prem, Hart and Schmichel both inexperienced and Weaver gone to Charlton.

Most Kopites I know were expecting them to beat Inter when the draw was made, but I can't see it happening and maybe you're right Rich, he could go then. Are the Americans planning a visit for 2008???
