Recent Media Article

Hi Guys

Just wanted to raise a few points about a recent media article that appeared. Perhaps we should draw the line somewhere tho eh?

One one hand, I think its admirable for Richard to not censor articles, and you could argue that if FA is to be realsitic - this sort of thing happens on occasion so its fair game to be commented on

However - and this is just my oppinion - that kind of thing we dont have to have in the game. An ex girlfriend of mine went through a rape ordeal - and I can promise you - it was a ****ty situation to go through - so perhaps the last piece of media was a bit too close to the bone

I dunno if its me - but I tend to view the media pages as a good place for a bit of banter, some rivalry with managers, some winding up and some gloating

It would have made me laugh more if Watford players had been arrested on suspicion of diamond smuggling - or fly tipping - you know? something that gets a giggle?

Anyway, just my thoughts on the subject, and my spies tell me who wrote it - but surely youve missed the point. Stirring up rival managers surely was the aim - and I cant quite see how that peice does to be honest?

Anyway - interested to hear peoples thoughts on this as perhaps it just took me more by suprise having been through it with someone else - and in fact theres nothing wrong with stuff like that appearing

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all on FA!!!

ps likewise if anyone on FA has been convicted of diamond smuggling or fly tipping - sorry for bringing it up lol!

cheers

Simon

I have to agree with your points Simon. There are a lot of managers who play this game so nobody knows what their past experiences are and how a media piece like this may affect them. Though this game is based on real life, it is a game and should remain as such. The media page should be for transfer speculation, banter and other football related issues. I know Richard and all managers want the game to be as realistic as possible but it should not include any crimes or allegations of crimes. What happens if the Watford player is found guilty, does that mean he is removed from the game?

Anyway, best wishes for 2008.

Iain

My position on the media is normally simply to correct your spelling errors then stick it on the site however I did refuse to post a recent piece of media which in no uncertain terms was just written with the aim of calling Jamie Walker gay, as I felt that was a little pointless and over the line.

I take your points about the topic of the media but having said that the piece does do no more than mention rape. I understand it may be a touchy subject for some people but on the other hand if you read the newspapers I'm sure the word will be mentioned at some point through the course of a week so no one can block the use of the word or totally remove it as a topic of conversation from life.

Having said that as it's been brought up, and as I happen to agree that it doesn't exactly add to the game through how its been written, its been removed.

I know League One is building up to this media frenzy of a year, but I don't know what it is about Watford that makes people want to get personal. Heres hoping for some festive humour in the next Watford related media then.

Richard.

Hi Guys

This was never a petition to get the article removed - more of a discussion really. I myself read it very late last night after a few beers - so perhaps i was more taken aback than others

Also to be fair - I dont think it set out to cause offence in the least

My point was, and sorry to whoever wrote it - i didnt think it was very good lol! I like to see rivalry and banter in the media. If you pick the wrong tactics or formation and lose heavilly it can set up some fruity articles by your rival managers - and some digs in time for your next match to heap the pressure on! Thats the sort of thing that I think makes FA stand out above other games

Anyway - doesnt really matter does it? So Happy new year to everyone

cheers!

Sim

That recent media piece is only what has been written in the real media about Man Utd players recently although i do understand as your thoughts Simon as i have been through it with an ex also, who i have recently split up with after a long relationship. Although I dont think it should have been removed

I try not to edit much of the media, and if this had been a one off piece it may have been left. But as it closely followed another piece that I refused to use then as a borderline piece I suppose it was always walking a thin line.

Also, if people start threads complaining about the content of a media piece, what did they expect was going to happen?!!

Anyway like I said lets have people using the media but keeping it light hearted. Many a person has used it to have a dig at a rival team but it can be done and get a laugh at the same time if written well.

Richard.

Has the media been taking off then? I can't find it anywhere? And before the assumptions come flooding in, this had absolutely nothing to do with me!

Yeah, I don't think things such as rape should be brought up in the media. I enjoy reading the medias pieces, the Leicester manager has just been ripped to pieces recently.

Ben it was the Watford manager who got ripped because of it, and the story line was obviously taken from the Man Utd / Johnny Evans storyline which was a well publicised story unfortunatley
