Good afternoon all and welcome to the closing episode of MOTFA for the week just gone. Today we will be discussing a round up of some of the key games from the weekend just gone (And in a separate thread) a roundup of key transfers from the weekend just gone
Arsenal 2 vs Chelsea6
A match close to my heart as most of you are aware!. Sadly with key injuries and suspensions to Richards and Toure we were forced to play with one fullback and Chelsea took full advantage of this imbalance to destroy us down the flanks. Credit goes to Drew at Chelsea for exploiting this weakness. On paper most of the teams should lose to Chelsea as the gap is too wide but the ruthlessness shone was impressive and Arsenal were indeed put to the sword
Liverpool 3 vs Man City 1 Liverpool maintained there recent good form to comfortably beat an emerging ManCity side. Chances wise it wasnt that much of a mismatch but the finishing of Liverpool was clearly superior and ManCity only had a consolation goal as comfort for their short trip home
Portsmouth 2 vs Spurs3
Chris Hantons first game in charge for Spurs ended in victory but the margin would have hoped to be much more I would imagine! In a very even game, the ever impressive Portsmouth created more than Spurs and can feel very unlucky to lose by the single goal. It was a also a strange second half with all 5 goals coming before the break. Perhaps fitness needs to be looked at in both camps?
Charlton 1 vs Coventry1
Newly promoted Coventry will take positives from their display away to Charlton. In a very dull affair the good point for the Manager will be that they were level on play with an established Championship side and shows a level playing field for the league this year. Its too early to report the chances of Coventry staying up but you cant argue against a good point away from home
Reading 1 vs Southampton3
Southampton this weekend also made a very encouraging start to life in the Championship. We shouldnt forget that Reading were in the top flight a few seasons ago and a very impressive 3-1 win showed that perhaps Southampton are really motoring despite the loss of their manager
Leeds 1 vs Leicester1
Winning the award for the worst game of the weekend and by a clear margin is this lifeless affair between two former top flight clubs. We would have had a more expansive report but our reporter fell asleep and even then we arent sure there was much to miss.
AC Milan 1 vs Atalanta 1
Surprising result this one with Milan dropping points against a so called average side. There was nothing average about their performance however and some would argue they ended the game after a great goal from Rivalta. They can be very happy with their away point as well as their performance
Juventus 3 vs Lazio 2
The famous old lady of Italian football is back and dangerous. Three goals in the first half from an ever emerging team were enough to secure victory against the formerly mighty Lazio. Despite a spirited comeback with two late goals it sadly wasnt enough and seemed a little unfair on the away side. Reports that they are looking to resign Paul Gascoigne are sadly unconfirmed at this point.
Ascoli 1 vs Cagliari 0
Again another team I have close links with, Cagliari didnt have enough in their tank with current personnel to worry Ascoli. A good defensive display from Ascoli from the back four, and a lack of invention from the away side made it a clinical victory for Ascoli. Cagliari have a certain young English superstar joining them this week so no long term concerns!
Atletico Madrid 3 vs Barcelona 4
A thrilling game this week from Spain easily winning the aware for most entertainment. With most of the 7 goals coming in the last 30 minutes it truly was a cracker. Credit must go to Barcelona for seeing out the game, as although the pendulum swung a few times over the course of the game it did look like Madrid had nicked it. No one told this to Mutu however who wrapped up the points with a quite superb hattrick
Real Betis 0 vs Real Madrid 3
Much fancied by a colleague of mine on the show, Betis were annihalted by a superb performance from Real Madrid. Madrid dominated from start to finish and its hard to even capture a highlight for Betis apart from a few wayward shots. Betis will have to have a good look at ways they can turn this performance around as this
Apologies to any manager who didnt have their game featured but it may have been your own fault for not impressing enough!
My first game for Betis was a real learning curve and think things will change in the next few week they need to and fast. I think the Spanish league is the hardest in the game as there are so many good teams in the league. The start i have had hasn't been to kind to me too. I think where teams are after the first 10 games will not be far from where they finish i can't see myself doing what i did last season with Norwich after that amount of games.

Have to say that we at Man City are highly disappointed with the result however feel it was a great learning curve for our younger players. Quite a few of the players that played will go out on loan in the coming weeks. It was a good game to rest stars Aimar and Anelka and more. We look forward to putting things right in the coming weeks.
(PS Simon might be a good idea to put the scores on here in future just for ease of referencejust suggestion

Well from a personal perspective I am delighted to take a point away from a decent Charlton outfit. It kick starts my season and with all the new additions I have said anything out of my first few games will be considered a bonus.
Nesta and Rivera will come into contention this week against Reading and I am hopeful of picking up another result against Reading.
Elsewhere I think there were some fascinating results which give some good indications of what we can expect this season. In the premiership it certainly looks like Chelsea will continue to be the dominant force. AC Milan's dropped point suggest it will be another season of Roma V Inter in Serie A. La Liga looks interesting, with managerless Real Madrid impressing. If they get the right man in charge I think they may well pip Sevilla this year.
It's already looking like it is going to be a very interesting season.
Saying you demolished Wolves was a little bit harsh Jon! Considering i had my reserve keeper in and his highest stat is a 5 i am surprised it was only 3! I didnt expect to win and with the team you have you should be heading straight for thr championship this season my man! We are a team in transition so we will see how it turns out in the return leg!

Have to say that I was always expecting a lost. I really had little to offer going forward and had a real makeshift defence. I am hoping that with 3 players coming in last week will hopefully make some sort of differenc. Mr Walcott is about to board the plane for Italy as he wants to work on his tan ( ).
Got Genoa at home this week who will no doubt have aspirations of promotion themselves this season so should be a good game. C'mon the Boys!!!!
