Walker was unusually delighted as he walked into his press conference today. The normally enigmatic manager was quick to explain his delight. "Gareth Barry joined up with the lads for his first training session today. He will be presented to the press with his new squad number later. This will send a big message out to our rivals. We can attract top players to this club. Our result against Bolton has us chasing the top two places. I would not be doing my job if I did not keep my feet on the ground and warn the fans it is unlikely we will finish in that top two but the team is improving every week and the results are promising. The fans have a right to enjoy this time.
I have already moved on two new signings this week. We are in talks with a premier league team and the reply to our approach has been positive. I lost out on a signing last week but I will not let that stop the team moving forwards."

Cagliari manager Steve Davies-Evans entered the after-match press confrence to state that he was happy with a win but needs to start getting more from the players.
"It was important to get 3 points under our belt this week. We have achieved that and it's a milestone from around our necks but the players and I know that we need to add a performance aswell. I don't think the supoprters will be going home talking about our free-flowing football this week. We now go to Palermo who are in good form and we need to kick on and use this. It's been harder because we have had to have new players coming in ever week but we have more shape to our side now so we will hopefully just be able to bring in key players instead of wholesale changes.
I want to also say congratulations to a few friends who picked up good results this week. Simon at Arsenal had a stunning win at Old Trafford that will surely send shock waves through that division. Mark at Coventry picked up another win as his impressive start to the season continues and with a 6 point gap between them and the drop zone, The Coventry fans must be enjoying life at the moment. My brother at Reggina also had a decent draw this week so good luck to him, Although we are now above him in the league so I'll have to remind him over a glass of vino and a pizza."
The vastly experianced manager that is Bluebird99 is sat in his armchair smoking a big fat cuban after seeing his first victory in months against prob the worst team on the game. LOL Its a long old season bro.Well done though for your first victory of the new season. Dave
Coventry City produced an incisive display this weekend to blow away their supposed relegation rivals 3-1 at the Ricoh Arena. The Sky Blues showed a renewed cutting edge to carve open the oppisition defence on numurous occassions. Sky Blues fans will be overjoyed that their team are proving early season critics wrong and showing that they can be competitive within The Championship. Manager Mark Rollings however, was keen to keep everyone's feet firmly on the ground.
'It was a superb display today and the accumulation of a lot of hard work pre-season. The squad is coming together nicely now and we can be optimistic for the rest of the season. Some manager were quick to suggest we would be outclassed this season and some even went as far as saying they were looking forward to relegating us. It is still early doors of course but we have shown that we will not be embarrased this season.'
Diego Forlan put pen to paper this week on a Coventry deal which see's talisman Eidur Gudjohnsen leave the Ricoh Arena after a successful stint at the midlands club. Rollings also confirmed that he was due early this week in Spain and Italy as he finalised the contracts of two more recruits. Next up for the Sky Blues is a home fixture against Cardiff City and few would bet against them extending their impressive run.
The press assembled at Ninian Park today to meet the new LM Hugo Viana signed from Valencia this week. He was accompanied by manager JD Jaques.
JD: "Welcome to Ninian Park, the home of Cardiff City. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce our new singing Hugo. He comes to the Welsh Riviera from Valencia."
Hugo: "The transfer was agreed a few weeks ago, and I am impressed by the facilities here at Cardiff. Although the deal involved a substantial amount of money for Cardiff ,I hope to repay the fans. They have seen a lot of players leave just recently, which enabled me to come here. I hope that I will be able to provide a few good crosses to the strikers and perhaps score a few goals myself."
JD "Hugo will take the no. 9 shirt and I think he will make an impact on the team."
Press: "He better, otherwise the fans will not be very happy. Perhaps they have been looking at the deal Jamie at Watford has manged to broker for a similar player for nearly half the price Cardiff managed."
JD "Well Hugo understands the importance of starting his career here with a flying start."
"Regarding Jamie Walker's transfer dealings, Cardiff have contacted the Football League to ask how the Aston Villa Charman views the deal for Barry, as at Cardiff we cannot understand what real value there is in it for Villa. I am sure that if the Cardiff fans are unsure of the deal we have brokered, then Birmingham fans must be laughing over the news of Villa letting a good player go for what we think is peanuts. Jamie is a manager who I have the utmost respect for dating back to when I oringinally managed Chievo and he was at Inter. Maybe he got his heavy boys to visit the football league who I understand brokered the deal with some halluciogenic pizza. No seriously, the terms were unbelievably good, and that is something Cardiff have queried with the Football League. We havent contacted Jamie because we do not think he would have much to say on the matter - he is probably laughing as much as the Birmingham fans on the way to see his very happy chairman. "
Press: "We understand works may be starting on an extension to the stadium. Can you confirm this?"
JD: "Yes, season ticket sales are always high at Ninian Park, with a lot of games being a sell out. We have received planning permission to build a 4,000 seat extension. This decision was a difficult one because we had to balance the money we have against our turnover, and an increase in capacity will no doubt help turnover in the long term. We have also reviewed our ticket prices and I hope that the fans understand that in order to progress the club we will need to increase ticket prices to £13 this season."
Press: "And your thoughts on this weeks game at the Ricoh?"
JD: "Well you will know that we dont appear in the media that often. Mark Rollings must be one of the most well versed in the media. However, we are happy to be seen as an easy game at this time. We have not won yet but the players understand the importance of 3 points. Perhaps we are the underdogs but that may trip some teams up because they will perhaps play less than full strength teams against us."
Press: "And will Hugo start?"
JD: "Well he has only just joined us so he may need some extra time in training before starting. We shall have to see."
An Aston Villa spokesman released a short message worded by the chairman himself today in response to reports that the Cardiff manager was unhappy with the clubs dealings.
"We at Aston Villa have experienced a tough season and a half and we knew that things needed to be changed if we were going to avoid relegation. We have no wide right midfielders and the sale of Barry has enabled us to bring in a good youthful defender and money.
The aim is to bring down the age of this squad and we felt a swap deal was perfect. Daniele Dessena will be joining us on loan next week to complete the deal and that will have strengthened two positions we need to rebuild at the cost of one good player who we couldnt use.
If myself and the caretaker manager had unlimited time we could have chased up every lead when trying to sell, but we already knew Viana had agreed terms with Cardiff weeks ago so we still wouldnt have thought to offer Barry there. Cardiff paid heavily for Viana and might have paid more than most people would for a player of his ability but we wish him all the best settling into English life again. Hopefully now this club can look forward to a time of success, because its been long overdue."
Left midfielder Mauro Camoranesi is still available at half price and is expected to follow Barry out the door shortly, as despite his age he's a highly talented midfielder.
Jonny Sinclair issued in the press he was still looking to add players to his squad
'Its been hard work over the last few weeks and their are still more layers before the team will be complete i'm hoping that by the 10th game of the season that the majority of my team that i want will be together this week we will be getting an experienced player in that will amaze the rest of the league he has been playing the premier league for many season now and knows the game inside out and will give us a real chance of promotion and if we can bring in another centre back and a left midfielder we should have a team that should be able to keep in the play-off hunt and have a shot at automatic promotion'
Gimnastic Manager reported this week that he has no time to be down in the dumps after his sides poor start to the season. A suprise cup win being their only victory.
We have not won a game yet this season and you do start to take a look at things and wonder what youve changed, said Fletcher.
However, I have faith in my own actions and I have continued to be ruthless and lower the age of this squad. Players nearing the end of their careers have slowly been offered alternative clubs and have been replaced by young players who are hungry for success.
There isnt any room for sentimentality in this league, its fast and physical so I need strong young players with squad back up to get through and finish in a good position.
We have also changed our formation and this is taking a while to settle into, we now have the wide players to feed the strikers of which we have a huge choice, probably too many.
I have had to use my loan options wisely and these players will bring valuable large club experience and desire.
Coventry boss Mark Rollings today explained his surprise at comments by Cardiff City manager Johndaniel Jaques claiming his Bluebirds side should be considered underdogs in their forthcoming showdown at The Ricoh arena.
'It certainly surprised the management and board down here. On the one hand we are hearing of Cardiff splashing £14million on one player, and increasing Ninian Park by 4,000 seats, and in the next breath we are being told that they will be underdogs against us. Let me assure you that we are nowhere near being able to put in bids like that for players.'
A week ago Cardiff City had a reported £20million warchest at their disposal, and many were tipping the Welsh outfit to move away from the bottom of the table once they converted that cash into personnel. However, Rollings was keen to point out that with those sort of funds comes a different sort of pressure.
'The board at Cardiff will be expecting results now. Johndaniel has made his move and brings near enough his completed Championship squad to us this weekend. The pressure is all on Cardiff. We have seven points in the bank this season and if we get a result against this weekend we will move eight points clear of them. I have no reason to doubt my players! They have already shown me that they are up for the battle this season. Cardiff, as yet, havent shown that!'
'I have heard whispers from Cardiff that Hugo Viana may sit out. I am sure that is not the case, but it will certainly not affect my team selection. I knew what i was going to play against Cardiff two weeks ago and nothing i have seen since then has changes my mind. We will be going full strength and full tilt against our relegation rivals; mark my words.'
With both managers keen to play the underdog role, this weekends fixture promises to provide a fascinating insight into the progress of the two clubs.
