Gossip and Transfer Round Up - Week 4

Good afternoon Gentlemen

Welcome to a new update on MOTFA where we will look to discuss all the rumours and speculation amassed through our network of contacts within the game

Please note that a lot of this is conjecture and speculation and no offence is caused or meant by any of the team in inaccurate information regarding clubs or players

If you have a dispute over the data, or want to add anything to this column please email me at
simonnewcombe@googlemail.com and it will be processed

Comments in this thread should be kept to a minimum with all runmours comming from myself rather than have a never ending series of posts and counter posts. This also allows me to spell check and check where relevant some of the facts

thanks to the manager - who prefers to remain nameless for writing the vast majorities of these!

Gossip Column Week 4

The Cagliari board have dismissed claims that they are already regretting appointing welsh manager Steve Davies-Evans. High profile paper Scudetto released pictures of Cagliari officials meeting with Empoli boss Thomas Barry but a source close to the club described that meeting as incidental.

Juan Carlos Valeron is set for a switch to Celta Vigo as new boss Gareth Gardener fronted up the necessary £5million to prize the creative midfielder from Segunda rivals Deportivo.

Jonny Evans looks set to follow club mate Salvatore Caturano to Almeria as Manchester United increase their links in Spain.

Real Madrid have told new manager Paul Janyshiwskyj that he must purchase a signature player to illustrate to the world that they are still the biggest side around. Fernando Torres, Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo are top of the Spanish clubs wish list.

Jamie Walker has been spotted in Spain this week, and La Marca have suggested he could be in line for a shock Watford departure for warmer pastures.

Coventry City manager Mark Rollings was also spotted in Spain this week having dinner with Gimnastic manager Andrew Fletcher. The pair are known to have a good relationship but Spanish paper Marca claim the Coventry boss is tracking South American centre back Mingo.

Sunderland have promised their fans they are close to the signature of a new creative midfielder. The Mackams have been worryingly blunt in front of goal this season and fans have expressed their concerns. Manager Johnathan Petty however, is believed to be in discussions with an unnamed target who he is optimistic of signing.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Chris Hanton has suggested that there is no way back for transfer listed Jermain Defoe. The England Striker is said to be desperate to remain at Tottenham but the successful manager has told Defoe he needs to sell to fund his bid for his former employee Steve Sidwell at Atletico Madrid.

Cardiff City are desperately searching for a central midfielder and are willing to splash up to £6million on the right player.

Charlton Athletic winger Darren Ambrose has suggested he may quit the London club. He is desperately unhappy with the clubs performance in the league and has instructed his agent to find him a new club.

Chelsea chairmen Roman Abramovic has instructed his management to stop being conservative and splash the cash in an attempt to stave off their rivals in the push for Premiership honours.

Brazilian midfielder Edu has told the Real Betis hierarchy that he wants to quit the club and move to Tottenham Hotspur. The London club are reportedly interested should they find themselves unable to acquire top target Steve Sidwell

Gareth Barry deal special

Cardiff City manager, Johndaniel Jaques, has found himself in hot water with the Football Academy board after a spectacular outburst into the legitimacy of Gareth Barrys high profile switch to Championship newbies Watford. It is believe the FA are furious that one of their registered managers has publicly called the credibility of the deal into question.

Meanwhile, it seems as though Jaques has plenty of support within the football academy world with several managers privately expressing their surprise at the terms of the deal. The threat of incurring the FAs wrath seems to have prevented any Cardiff esq outbursts but it is understood several managers have backed Cardiff and their manager in the dispute.

Week 4 Transfer Round Up

David Bentley Juventus

Simon Jenkins finally ended his search for a quality right midfielder, capturing young England international David Bentley. Sacrificed were Vladimir Koman and James Vaughan, both talented players who will have a great impact at Blackburn. It remains to be seen whether Bentley can make an impact in Serie A but Juventus fans will be hoping his signature can bring them closer to the leading group in Italy.

Diego Forlan Coventry City

Manager Mark Rollings moved quickly to strengthen his squad once more with the high profile capture of Uruguayan hot shot Diego Forlan in a deal which saw Coventry hero Eidur Gudjohnsen move to Selhurst Park. Fans of Coventry will be sorry to see Gudjohnsen leave, his goals proving crucial in last seasons play off winning campaign. Forlan has a superb scoring record however, and it will be interesting to see how he links up with Dave Kitson in the Sky Blue attack.

Matthew Taylor Barcelona

Pompy stalwart Matthew Taylor this week earned a dream move to European giants Barcelona as Gabriel Heinze and Pazzini moved to the South Coast outfit. The deal seems a strange one on the outset but Barcelona have been searching for a more attack minded wing back for some time and will hope Taylor can fill the role.

Mark Viduka Fulham

Vidukas Middlesbrough hell finally ended this week as the Australian earned a good move back to the Premiership with struggling Fulham. Manager Jackie Yeo has invested £5million in the established pro and will need the marksman to hit the ground running if Fulham are to recover and keep their Premiership status.

Hugo Viana Cardiff City

In one of the strangest deals this week Cardiff City manager Johndaniel Jaques splashed a wopping £14million to bring Portugese International, and cultured left winger Hugo Viana to Ninian Park. The fee surprised many in the Football Academy world and Viana will have to
deliver immediately or the pressure will firmly be on the manager.

Matthew Fryatt Norwich City

Matthew Fryatt finally found himself a permanent home as the Canaries stumped up £10million to take the talented striker to Carrow Road. Norwich had been searching for a striker since losing Carlos Acuna back to Seville from his successful loan stint last season. Fryatt has scored goals at League One level and the Norwich manager has taken a gamble that he can replicate that form in The Championship.

Joe Hart Sunderland (LOAN)

Talented Goalkeeper Joe Hart moved to John Pettys Sunderland this week in search of first team football. Hart is tipped for big things and a number of clubs will be watching his progress in league one.

Carlos Acuna Recrativo Huelva (LOAN)

One of the brightest young strikers in Europe has gone back out on loan in search of football, with Recrativo the beneficiaries. Acuna was instrumental in Norwich Citys great escape from the Championship drop zone last season and is sure to be a hit at Sevilles La Liga brothers.

Gareth Barry Watford

In one of the most controversial transfers this season Gareth Barry moved to Jamie Walkers Watford, much to the distaste of Cardiff and their manager Johndaniel Jaques. The intracacies of the dispute are still to air, but it is believed Jaques is furios with the deal and has complained to the FA. It is unlikely that any action will be taken against either club however, leading the Cardiff manager calling into question the credibility of the FA, Aston Villa and Watford.

Please note that none of the detail in this section is in anyway factually accurate. It merely acts as an avenue to provoke debate and embelish the stories within FA. It in no way reflectes opinion of myself, or other managers in the game.

As a special note, and regarding the Gareth Barry section. The credibility of Rich should in no way be called into question. No managers have expressed a concern at this deal to me, nor to anyone else i know on the game. I have always found WD remarkably consistent and fair and this includes the Gareth Barry deal. The gossip about the deal was merely added to spice up the media battle. Their is no fact in the gossip what so ever. I personally apoligise for any misunderstanding that it may have caused.

WD you do a superb job!

It's Steve Jenkins at Juventus. Simon is the younger (less charismatic but equally talented) manager of Real Valladolid in Spain.

Just as well he didn't sign for you - having his name spelt correctly is specified as one of his contract conditions! Or do you teams from the budget leagues routinely shorten players names to save on the cost of printing the back of team shirts?
