West Brom chase Europe?

Paul Harrington is quickly leading West Brom fans towards dream land this season. The Baggies manager has guided his team to 4 games in 7 this season and with 12 points they are only 5 behind last seasons champions Chelsea.

Alberto Gilardino joined at the end of last seasons successful promotion campaign and has commented on the current form. "Not many people on the continent know West Brom very well but the fans here are very passionate. My old boss knew the old manager here and recommended them and I haven't been disappointed. We play good attacking football under the manager and we're surprising a few people this season. We need to keep believing."

Spurs admit Woods interest

Chairman Daniel Levy has admitted the club had looked into the availability of recently departed Valencia boss Tony Woods but found him preoccupied. Levy was talking to press after unveiling new manager Richard Jefferies who joins the London club from Real Zaragoza.

"We knew Tony (Woods) was interested and we enquired about his situation. We quickly discovered Gimnastic were in talks with him. One of our representatives out in Spain was tipped that Richard (Jefferies) might be available and we approached Zaragoza. He's done a good job so far for them, they could survive in La Liga. This is his big break as we see it and I think that will urge him on to achieve new heights in his career with us."

Salvado disappointed

Gimnastic released a statement on their club website this afternoon announcing an approach for Tony Woods had been rejected. "Woods named us informally as one of his preferred moves and that alerted us to him really. We are very disappointed to announce he has since turned down an offer to manager us. Tony has been tempted by bigger teams we can't compete with so will reconsider our position and look at the remaining candidates on our shortlist."

This shocking revelation that Woods has been torn between two teams and through unfortunate timing has missed out on both, leaves the ex-Valencia man without a club still amid reports he has now turned down 5 job offers.

Fans turn on Gaydamak

After the stunning resignation of Jackie Yeo from Portsmouth just 2 months into his reign there, a group of loyal supporters could be heard demonstrating outside the stadium in the rain this afternoon. The fans believe that despite the praising comments from Yeo, that pressure from Alexandre Gaydamak following a poor run of form in the league has forced the new manager out.

A representative for the fans said that stability was essential and losing a manager so early in the season would be devastating for the club. Yeo's most noticeable point in his brief time on the South coast was the signing of striker Nicolas Anelka.

Portsmouth are 4 points from safety losing 6 of their 7 league games this season and are one of the victims of the brilliant starts all three newly promoted teams have made in the Premiership. The other two, Spurs and Newcastle, have already parted with their managers this season.

In the wake of Gimnastic's seemingly pot hole ridden pursuit of a new manager, Blades boss Andy Fletcher has ruled himself out of a shock return to the club.

Andy Fletcher said.

" Gimnastic are a great club and undoubtedly deserve to be challenging higher up, with a huge fan base and good incomes now I expect them to achieve promotion this year.

However, I have an important challenge here at Sheffield United and I'm fully focused on achieiving our goals"

JEFFERIES HAILS GREAT TALENT AT SPURS

After 2 days training with his new squad at Spurs Richard Jefferies has said that he has inherited a squad with massive talent who have been severly under achieving.

I am amazed at the position we are in because the squad is packed full of quality, He added that although he knows how tough the premier league is he fully expects his squad to make a move up the table.

Harringtons' feet firmly on the ground.

After a blistering start to life in the Premiership, Baggies boss Harrington was quick to warn the joyful fans not to expect too much too soon.

"Obviously, everyone at the club is ecstatic with the way we have performed this season, we have come such a long way since scraping through the playoffs and people need to remember we were firm favorites with everyone to go down, so avoiding relegation is our one and only aim, talk of qualifying for Europe is frankly crazy and totally unrealistic as the top teams have much better resources than we do currently."

Harrington also moved to deny any knowledge of a possible interview for the Huleva job, before talking up the long term aim of West Brom FC.

"The fans here are used to seeing good, attacking football with some high quality players, they have been taking from the bottom to the dizzy heights before and my aim is to get them back to the glory years they experianced previously. when we are on top of our game i dont think anyone can match the football we play and the sheer amount of chances we create. Can we keep that up against the biggest teams in the division? i dont know, but eventually, that is the plan!

Mr. Harrington then went on to explain that all recent enquires for Gilardino had been knocked back without being considered, saying that the Italian striker was at the Hawthorns to stay, and would become a Baggies legend for years to come.

Simon Jenkins on

Rant #1 - Richard Marsh

"Considering Cadiz have been acting as my feeder club for over a season and a half now, you would have thought he would have the decency to at least let me know before hand that he was resigning as manager. Because of this I do not know the conditions of his departure so I will not say too much, but honestly he has a reasonably poor team other than the players that I have sent him. These players have formed an attacking line-up which far exceeds the standard of player in the rest of that league. And what has he done? Ended up one off bottom and then left. It seems that my players are angry about being left there, and Im just as angry, it was just lucky that two were only there for half a season. Half a season at Cadiz has ruined Cortez's chances of repeating last season's fantastic goal scoring record. It is not the fact that he has left but the manner in which he did it. Needless to say that I will be looking for a new feeder club come next season."

As of yet there has been no reply to this outburst from the Cadiz camp.
