Week 15

Sampdoria boss 'Jubilant' at San Siro point

After watching his side battle to an outstanding and unfancied point against Serie A giants Inter Milan, Welsh boss Mark Rollings went on record to praise his players. A Djibrill Cisse double set the Bluecheriati on their way at the San Siro, and unsuprisingly the French international gained a special mentioned from his delighted boss.

'Djibrill has been nothing short of sensational since joining. There was a lot of rubbish written about his attitude and willingness to be here but he has shown since then he is one of the most clinical and exciting stikers in Serie A. The way we are setting up at the moment suits his style of play superbly and he is not letting us down. Another two goals today and at times he looked unplayable. He is only 25 and we are working hard on all elements of his game, he will only get better. That could be said for a number of our squad, and the future is very, very bright for this team. Every last one of them was superb today and we matched one of the leagues top sides in every department.'

Rollings has spoken out recently to lavish praise upon the Blucheriati faithful and was keen to point out that everyone at the club was working hard to repay them.

'We have taken results of Parma and Inter Milan over the last two weeks and things are well and truly coming together for us. The fans deserve it more than anyone and hopefully they can see their patience being rewarded now. Our next four games include Ascoli twice (in the league and cup quarter final), Fiorentina and Palermo and we are targeting a place in the Italian Cup semi final and 9 points.'

The admission from the Sampdoria management represents a significant change in attitude but boss Mark Rollings has always suggested that it would take some time to get his team where he wanted it. With a plethora of youg talent and one of the most revered youth orchestrators in the football world in Bill Beswick Sampdoria's future looks bright.

Chelsea manager John Brady spoke after the win against Spurs to reveal the reasons behind the shock sale of Kaka.

"In a recent interview I stated that I needed to look to the future. I have been on the lookout for a number of young players to come in and freshen up the squad. However, in order to do that I must sell players to get funds. Although Chelsea has one of the richest owners in the game he has taken a step back from the financial side of things over the last few seasons, which is fully entitled to do.

I have expressed my concerns about allowing the team to grow old together and risking Chelsea slip away like a number of other teams in recent years. After attempting to move some players on without success I had to consider selling a big name player. I decided to sell Kaka soley down to the fact that both Messi and Obi can give an extra 5 years service to the club and can only continue to improve.

The move may well backfire but there are times when a gamble is necessary. If it doesn't work out then I run the risk of the sack but that is the nature of the beast. Personally, I still feel the team has what it takes to compete in all three competitions and potentially win them.

Before I go I would like to wish Kaka all the best at his new club and am sure he will score and create a load of goals for them. Thanks for your time"

Rumour Mill

Kaka has told friends he left Chelsea because he believes their dominance of the English league is slipping.

Glenn Whitter is being touted by many in Italy to be the next Roma manager.

A Roma board member has refused to answer questions on the pending appointment of Glenn Whitter increasing speculation he is in discussions over a move already.

Roger Johnson has told the Levante website that he believes the team is good enough to go up in the automatic places this season.

Jermaine Jenas has labelled the Spurs manager 'mad' for selling him in exchange for youngsters when the club is in a relegation battle.

The Sunderland board have held a meeting with manager Jonathan Petty to explain 2nd place promotion is simply not good enough.

Emmanuel Adebayor is unhappy with the arrival of Reginaldo Ferreira at Cardiff and wants his position in the team clarified.

Real Valladolid fullbacks D'Amico Marco and Stefano Procida are to be transfer listed as the club search for extra funds.

Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Sampdoria fans they will never be as big a club as Inter.

Administrators at Fulham are close to wrapping up the sales with only 2 more proposed deals agreed and pending but they will not clear the remaining debts.

A bank loan will have to be taken out to cover the remaining debts at Fulham which will result in player sales over the next few seasons just to cover the repayments.

Young midfielder Levi Porter has admitted his confusion and disillusionment with the sport after being sold in quick succession by Leicester and Celta Vigo.

High scoring Genoa striker Giuseppe Sculli has told Roma to expect the toughest game of their season in the cup this week.

Under pressure manager Steve Davies-Evans and relative newcomer Callum Jefferies are top of Niall Quinn's list to replace Petty.

Ascoli defender Mauro Sosi has said their upcoming cup tie will be one match Sampdoria can definitely not claim to be underdogs in.

David Gray has said he is surprised at being resigned by an English team following his release from Man United.

Valon Behrami has praised new manager Anthony Tate for the fresh ideas he has brought to the club since his arrival.

Fans have been left in the lurch with no official statements from Newcastle or Real Valladolid on the supposed takeover bids.

The Fulham fan group preparing to buy the club will have to take out a loan of over £10 million to cover excess debts.

Davies-Evans disappointed at dropped points!

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Davies-Evans has spoken of his frustration as his side allowed Reading to claim a share of the spoils with a late equaliser that may have ended the Yorkshire sides chance of automatic promotion.

"Yeah obviously we are disappointed that we allowed them to get the goal. We had enough chances to put the game to bed and we are normally so good defensively, it's hurt the lads at the moment. We now need to pick ourselves up ready for our mamouth game against Chelsea in the cup. We will have a look at the squad and see if there is a way of giving some players a rest as a couple were out on their feet today."

When asked about the recent rumours that he may be being lined up to succeed under-pressure Sunderland boss Jonathan Petty, Davies-Evans was quick to play down the claims.

"I think it's nonsense. It's flattering to be linked with a club of Sunderlands stature but that's where it ends. Jonathan is a good friend of mine and in him, Sunderland have an excellent manager so I don't see then in any need to get rid. Sunderland will go up this season and at the moment, they are joint top and still have Birmingham to play so it's totally in their own hands. Jon is doing a great job there and is assembling a great squad so I fully expect him to be in the job for the forseable future."

Jefferies defends Jenas sale !

Spurs boss Richard Jefferies has defended his decision to sell Jemaine Jenas to Celta Vigo.

Jefferies said " Jermaine has not really been making it happen for us since i have been here and when the offer of Levi Porter came up it seemed to make perfect sense. Porter is a player i have been watching for ages and i think we can give him a long term home here, he is one of the most exciting young talents in England and i had a good chat with him on Friday when he put pen to paper. I wish Jenas every success with Gareth in Spain and i'm sure the move will do him good as i think he had got very stale at Spurs"

First taste of Spanish football for Cadiz Cf manager Ashley Davies.

When asked by Revista de la ligas Mark Bolton about his first couple of weeks in the segunda Mr Davies had this to say.

Well, Just from being here a couple of weeks I can understand the passion of the football here in Spain, My first couple of games have been un-successful but every manager has to start from scratch, My main ambition for the remainder of the season is to develop the skills needed to take Cadiz into a promotion pushing team next season, The squad age is not at its best so hopefully some permanent signatures can be made here.

Mark Bolton: Tell us about the recent link with Mark Rolling at Sampdoria and what you think about young loan signings.

' Im very happy with the 'dream' link up with Mark, My first loan of Mr Rollings is Pietro Arnulfo The young striker has the ability to tear the segunda apart, Having some goal scoring problems is becoming a issue to loosing games, Im very excited about his move and cant wait to take him on and get him scoring goals, as well as earning experience. Feeder club link ups is a very promising rise in the managerial world, Having so much talent coming through the ranks , Lower league clubs will be delighted with such talent in their team as I am.

Sheffield Wednesday Press Conference - Steve Davies-Evans

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Davies-Evans today gave a quite frank and honest assessment of his sides performance against Chelsea in their cup defeat and also spoke of his excitmen for this weeks Yorkshire derby against Leeds United and also his brother Dave.

Press - Steve, your boys took abit of a drubbing at the hands of Chelsea. What was your view of the game?

SDE - "Well it was always going to be a very hard game. Afterall, this is he best team in the world with some of the best individual players too. We tried to compete with them but in the end, they were just far too good. It was a great learning curve for us though and it gave us an idea of how far we are away from competing with the best teams. We will use this as a positive now and push forward to try and gain promotion so we can play these sort of players more often.

Press - You rested some of your players last night, Do you now think that this was the right thing to do?

SDE - "Yeah of course. I think it gave us the oppertunity to have a look at some fnew players and also try out a new formation. We are going to need a squad if we are going to gain promotion and I have some players that are shattered at the moment and need some rest or they won't be able to last the season."

Press - To coin a cliche, you can now concentrate on the league. You have a huge game against Leeds United this weekend and a match that sees the Davies-Evans v Davies-Evans battle re-ignight. How do you see the game going?

SDE - "Well I hope I see it going with 3 points for us. It won't be an easy game as Leeds have improved massively since we played last. As for the "Brother Factor", It's just another game. It's another cliche but for 90 minutes, we will be apposing managers and that's it. After the game, we will be brothers again. I think that if we do all the little things right then I think we can win the game."

Press - You have a very good record against your brother, do you keep tabs on the scores?

SDE - "Ha, no I don't. I'm not sure how many times we have played eachother now but every game is always close and I don't see this being different."

Press - Will you be bringing in any new players this week?

SDE - Yes we will have a young CM joining from a Premiership side to help give us something different in the centre. I'm also working hard on another couple of deals to try and strenghten the squad.

Press - Lastly, You are continued to be linked with other jobs. Sunderland are the latest team to see you linked with. What are your feelings on this?

SDE - "I think I have already stated my feelings on this matter but I think it's totally unfair to put pressure on a manager that is already in the job. I have not been approached by Sunderland and if I'm honest, I don't expect to be. Jonathan will surely take them up so I would think that he will keep his job."

Rollings praises Sinclair ahead of second meeting in week

Sampdoria boss Mark Rollings reserved special praise for his fellow serie a manager Jonny Sinclair as the two managers clubs sit in-between a big double header between the teams.

Rollings' men triumphed 4-1 yesterday evening in the italian cup quarter final and now face Sinclairs troops in a league fixture this weekend. Even though Sinclair and Ascoli sit bottom of the pile in serie a the sampdoria manager suggested Sinclair was a fine example too managers across Europe.

"I think Jonny has done a wonderful job and is building the club very much in the right way. Ascoli have one of the youngest and most talented squads in Italy and have obt suffered from lack of experience this season. Jonny has resisted numerous advances for his young stars and along with his chairman is slowly putting together a real legacy. I can see them becoming a very good team indeed, even if it means falling back down to serie b first."

The young Welsh boss did suggest however that his side would be looking to further condemn sinclair's side and worsen their relegation woes with another commanding display this weekend.

"We are determined to pay back the fantastic pateince and support we have received this season from our fans. Thankfully over the last three games we gave started to really put things together form wise. When I arrived here I looked at serie a and the clubs involved and felt we would get rewards out of saving our squad and letting other older teams wilt around us. Now its time for us to show what we can do and we are targeting another impressive win this weekend. Then we are looking forward to lazio and palermo and we will be going all out to take maximum points!"

Finally Rollings gave his reaction to his side being paired with city rivals, and millionairs play things Genoa, in what promises to be a heated exchange.

"They may be able to buy whoever they want...they may possibly buy themselves the cup ultimately but they cannot buy history and heritage. We are the number one team in Genoa, full stop! I would advise Genoa fans to enjoy it while it lasts cos if at some point Mr fahim gets bored they could be left in all sorts of problems!"
