WEEK 1

Davies-Evans - "Revolution starts here!"

We look ahead to one of the featured opening games of the new season as Nottingham Forest travel to Leicester. Both clubs find themselves starting the season in a tricky financial state but Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans is determined not to let the financial situation dampen his sides chances of climbing the league. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Davies-Evans seemed in a relaxed mood ahead of his sides trip to the walkers stadium, we caught up with him afterwards to see how he's feeling about the season ahead.

Media - Steve, You've been dealt abit of a blow already with the club finding themselves in £1.1m worth of debt. How much is this going to hinder your progress?

SDE - Well it's a blow obviously. I've got alot of players here that really want to be part of this rebulding process and they know that one of them is likely to leave in order to balance the books but we won't let it get us down, we are fully focused on the plan ahead and that starts at Leicester on Saturday.

Media - So have you made any progress in clearing the debt?

SDE - I can't say too much yet but we are already in advanced negotiations with one club about them taking one of our players which would see the debt cleared.

Media - So how do you see your match at Leicester going?

SDE - Well I don't think there's too much there for the neautrals and I can see it being a close game but I am confident that we have what it takes to get a positive result. We have to be confident about getting some sort of result from every game this season so we know that starting off with a win would be a great step to where we want to end up.

Media - It's already been reported that you will be taking a few players on loan from Cardiff this season, can the Nottingham Forest fans look forward to a player joining this week?

SDE - Yes, I have spoken to Stuart and we will be bringing in Aaron Ramsey this week which will give us a great lift in the center of midfield and will help the attacking flow of the team.

Media - We also hear that you have slashed ticket prices in order to try and bring back the fans to The City Ground, that can only go down well in light of the current economic crisis?

SDE - Well exactly. When I arrived, I noticed that the ticket prices were far too high for a team that is generally playing it's football at the wrong end of the table so we're not going to get the fans paying over the odds for sub-standard football. We worked hard and have decided to drop them from £15 per ticket down to £6 so a saving over over 50% off.

Davies-Evans then left the room to attend training where he was expected to announce his captain for the season, more on that next time we catch up with him.

Blades Go It Alone

After the dust had settled on a disappointing exit in the semi final play offs to near rivals Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United manager, Andy Fletcher was in the mood for refelction and the job ahead for the new season.

"Realistically, no one gave us any hope of going up but it doesnt ease the feeling of what could have been at this club. I had a good squad of players and when some were asked to fill in they did without question, their attitude was superb.

We have the job now of regrouping after the summer break and putting together another decent season in this league. Once again, teams around us have money but there are also some clubs in difficulties and its nice to start the season on an even keel.

We have been trying to get some loan signings in this week to boost the squad but only quality will do, otherwise we will go with what we have, theres no point in me bringing in a player who cant do the job as well as the lads I have here, it sends the wrong message to my team. Its beneficial for me to keep the squad small also to ensure we dont crash the wage budget we have set.

Our fans can expect another season of 100% commitment, we will put out our best squad everyweek and endeavour to finish the season in the top half of the table."

More money for transfers if Blackburn is to Compete in EPL!

In a rare interview with the press Blackburn boss Amilcar Vasquez today stated that he would require a proper transfer budget if he is to compete in the EPL.

"Yes, there are some good players in Blackburn, but some of the areas of the team need to be looked at, especially the back line. With Several players having retired there will definitely be a need to bolster up."

It can only be speculated as to how the Blackburn board will take unto the managers words

Sampdoria target Roma scalp in "breakthrough" season

Outspoken Sampdoria boss Mark Rollings has moved to outline his confidence in achieving his inflated targets in serie a this season suggesting a top 6 spot is the minimum he expects from his players.

The Blucheriati enjoyed a modest season last term, ensuring serie a survival and pushing league champions Juventus to penalties in the Italian cup final. The success has found favour with large portions of the fan base at Sampdoria but the young Welsh boss is keen to ensure constant progression is achieved.

"anything other than a top 6 finish this season will be a failure for this team. We now have match winners all over the squad and the ability to open teams up from midfield. We are targeting 6 points from our next two games, starting tonight against Roma. Glenn maybe finding out just what he has taken on at Roma and. Hope he is doubting his move all the more after this weekends match"

Rollings also announced the imminent arrival of Spanish playmaker Xabi Alonso from Liverpool, describing the midfielder as his "most important signing ever".

"Xabi is the final piece of the jig-saw in midfield. We have a central three who can control the pace of the game and Xabi is one of the best in the world at that. He will get us where we want to this season!"

Rollings was oozing confidence infront of the gathered press and clearly feels his side are ready to take the next step!

Leicester 0-1 Nottm Forest (Bastians "32)

Post match press conference with Steve Davies-Evans

Media - Steve, You must be delighted to get your first win with Nottm Forest and even more delighted that you have started the season with 3 points?

SDE - "Yeah Absolutley! The last 7 games of last season were a pretty long affair but we used those games to try and work out the best plan possible ready for this season. It's going to be a long season and this is just 1 of 22 games but we're obviously delighted to start off with 3 points and to also get the "win monkey" off our back."

Media - We're you always confident that you would hang onto the win once you got infront?

SDE - "Not really (laughs). We still gave them chances and to be fair, they probably could have nicked an equaliser but thankfully for us, they didn't and we are happy to get the win."

Media - We've heared suggestions during pre season that Felix Bastians (match winner v Leicester) could be on his way out of Forest, is this true?

SDE - "Well the fans and everyone else connected tothis club knows that we may have to let certain players go in order to shape the whole squad and push forward. Felix knows his future well before this game and I'm not prepared to comment on it any further."

Media - Do you have any signings of your own coming in this week?

SDE - "Yes, all being well, we should see Inacio Pia join us on a permanent deal and also Aaron Ramsey join on loan from Cardiff. Pia is a player that I brought in on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and I thought he did an excellent job there including scoring a goal in the Playoff Final win. Aaron will give us some real attacking flair in the centre of midfield and we look forward to him wearing the shirt."

Media - Finally Steve, are your targets changing?

SDE - Absolutley not, We are never going to get carried away with one win. We have a very tough game at home to Sheffield United next week now and then a game against Wolves so we have to be at our best in both games to get positive results.
