WEEK 2

"We MUST build and improve!" - Davies-Evans

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans tells how he is working with his squad to build on last weeks 3 points and also takes time to compliment Andy Fletcher and the work he's done at Sheffield United.

Media - Steve, how important is it now to keep the momentum going now?

SDE - Yeah I think it's huge to be fair. We got a great result last week but if we are going to have a very good season this year, we have to keep on going.

Media - Not an easy game this week, Sheffield United are almost a certainty for the Playoffs this season?

SDE - Not an easy game at all. Sheffield United are an excellent side. Alot of people will say that we are no out to try and compete with these sort of teams but I'd like to disagree. I have challenged the players to go out and really try and work hard against these teams and I have promised them that if they do get positive results against the likes of Sheffield United, it will feel bloody good when they walk off the pitch.

Media - A few new players have come in since we last spoke, how do you see them helping your cause?

SDE - Well there is undoubted quality in Aaron Ramsey, He is coming to us to play alot of games and hopefully help us add that bit of flair in the middle of the park along the way. In Inacio (Pia), we have a striker with alot of experience and alot of quality. I brought him into Sheffield Wednesday as he's a team player and will no only get goals but will work hard for others around him and thats what he did. Even at 30, he had freightning pace and there will be alot of centre-halves that will be un-happy to see his name on the team sheet when playing us.

Media - You seem in bulllish mood ahead of this game, are you confident that you can get somthing from this game?

SDE - I think you always have to be positive. I have a great group of players here that are determined to get maximum points from every game. We understand that we will have to be on top form and need Sheffield United to have an off day but this is football and that's more than capeable of happening. Whatever happens, I am very confident that we can get a positive result from this game.

Media - And what about your opposing manager Andy Fletcher and the job he's done or is doing at Sheffield United?

SDE - I think Andy is a superb manager. He's shown that he can take them into the playoffs without having huge name players. They clearly have a real togetherness at Bramell Lane and he's a canny manager that always seems to get the best out of his team. I'm glad he's decided to stay on at United as I think he would be a huge loss for them. He's slowly bulding a team capeable of promotion there and I'm sure that he's got his eyes set on reaching the Championship this time out.

He managed to get a great result against Southampton last week which shows how hard they will be to play. I'm sure we'll have a glass of vino after the game as I'm always interested in hearing what Andy has to say regarding football, he's an intelligent manager.

Media - Lastly Steve, Your brothers team Leeds had anexplosive start to the League 1 season, how did you rate that result and others you may have had your eye on?

SDE - Well yeah Leeds win really sent out a statement to the rest of the league I think. I think finished the regular season as the form team and probably deserved manager of the month. He's had a week in pre-season to toy with a few things and then they've come back refreshed and "battered" one of the teams that were playing Championship football last season. They are one oft he teams to beat this season and they could find themselves in the top two come the end of the season if they carry on like that.

Other results that caught my eye were Sheffield United v Southampton as I said, I think that's a great point for Andy and his team as I'm sure Eugene and the players at St.Marys wantes to get off to a win. Maybe they are learning quickly how hard this league really is.

Sunderland as the out and out favourites this season but I imagine that Dale will just be glad to get 3 points from the game in the end. I don't think Wolves will offer the league that much this season and I fancied Sunderland to put atleast 4 on them so for them to sneak a win in the end will open the eyes of Dale and his players. I look forward to seeing how they perform this week. I'm sure he will have them fired up.

Media - Steve, thanks for joining us and good luck.

SDE - No problem at all, take care

Bramall Lane Boss Responds to Media Comments By Steve Davies-Evans

Steve is obviously bouyant after his excellent win in the first game of the season, and I thank him for his kind words but I see this season in League 1 as one of the toughest ever.

I think that any slip ups will see teams tumble out of the top 6 and its going to be the ones who can build squads and take advantage of the loan market that hang on in there.

I'm slightly concerned that I haven't brought anyone in yet but its not for the lack of trying, and like I said previously, I wont replace players unless they improve on what I have or add an extra advantage, I cant afford to clog up the bench.

Its too early to tell who the front runners will be but I think there may be a suprise package this year and that may be Nottingham Forest, Steve has brought in a couple of decent loan signings and if he can get those players to perform he has the bones of a good side.

I'm looking forward to this weeks game and hope to chalk up our first win of the season.

SPURS BOSS FRUSTRATED

Spurs boss Richard Jefferies was frustrated to end up with nothing in the opening match at Old Trafford after leading for most of the match, He said "we played some lovely attractive football but probably paid in the end as we seem to run out of steam at the end, i cant fault the commitment of my team and i think we showed we will a harder team to play against this season"  He then added that he was looking to bring in another CB to offer a bit more cover.

Coakley: next twio season vital

Former Manchester City manager Luke Coakley started his second full season at Milan with a four two win over Atalanta and continuing with the attacking free scoring football that the Milan faithful have become used to under his reign. "We like to attack and we like to pass the ball about" said the Milan manager. "The fans have noticed and enjoy the way we play and that can be seen with our increased attendances over the last season. The fans give us such great vocal support and I really hope we can sell out this season and push major honours, I want to win the lot and the fans can help us achieve the trophy we deserve. When the fans fill out the San Siro they dont act as a 12th man like so teams claim but more like a 13th or 14th man, they really make the difference."

"The win over Atlanta was comfortable and although im disappointed to have given away two goals im pleased we have the three points and its nice to see us at the top of the table where Milan belong even if it is only after one game at the moment."

Although Coakley was in a confident bullish mood he did have a moment of caution "The squad is not at its strongest at the moment but its strong enough to stay in contention until I can bring in the players needed. We are already stronger than last week having brought in Miller to add some bite into midfield and Zayeleta on loan upfront gives us some depth. Next week we plan to bring in another CM to add further depth to the squad. Sadly to make us stronger we have had to make the hard decision of selling Pato to Arsenal to raise funds - I can assure you this was not an easy decision but the only way I could see to take Milan forward without masses of investment from the chairman which was just not possible or economical at the present time. On a positive note we also have Theo Walcott returning on loan for the first half of the season and every chance we will see Pato back in Milan for the second half of the season. I have no doubt we will have the strongest squad Milan has had in many a season soon."

"Milan must be winning trophies and it needs to be sooner rather than later, if I can not bring a trophy to Milan in the next two seasons then my position needs to be seriously reviewed because this is a massive club and should be winning things. We must continue to improve and must continue to be stronger and I have no doubt that will be the case this season but I would be judged on my silverware and at the moment my cabinet is empty."

Napoli Ticket Prices & Deals

Napoli Manager JD Jaques has announced that the club will be raising ticket prices for the coming season from £5 to £9.

He said that whilst he understands that this may be seen by some fans as a large increase over last season he feels that it is still competitive with it being below a number of other clubs in Serie B.

"We had to get the fans back into the stadium last season, and we managed that by cutting our prices dramatically. Little money is available from the chairman at the moment and the time has come when we have to raise our prices to ensure that we can once again begin to compete with other teams in terms of our income."

The manager also said that he was pleased with the win in the first game of the season 2-1 against Livorno.

"We expected to win our first game and the lads showed grit to come back to win after going behind away from home. This week we welcome Torino who have traditionally been near the bottom of the table. I will expect a win this week and so will the fans. Whilst we do not have the greatest of resources at the club I think we can hopefully push for promotion this season whether that be automatic or via the playoffs. The question though is if we were to gain promotion whether we would be to survive in Serie A, as I have been at too many teams where the resources have not been forthcoming to make the dream of satying up following the elation of promotion a reality."

"It was a pity to lose Pia this week but I feel that we gained both some cover in defence with the experienced and a good young player in Robert Hughes. We have another deal lined up with Steve at Nottingham Forest for this week, and although we had agreed most of the terms, there are some further discussions taking place to finalise things."

"Steve has always been a pleasure to deal with and his professionalism stands him in good stead - in fact he has approached us regarding another player and we are seriously considering whether we can agree a deal with him, although we have a deal almost finalised elsewhere. This is an unusual step, because it is normally my policy (and Napoli as a club) to keep to agreed deals and not break my word, but it is a difficult situation when you dont hear back from managers to put pen to paper on deals. Therefore we are reviewing this situation."

WEEK 2

Blades Team News Ahead of the Weekends Fixture with Nottingham Forest.

Blades boss Andy Fletcher has no new worries ahead of Fridays game.

Influential defender Philipe Christanval is still sidelined due to a recurrent injury and will not travel.

Striker Colin Marrison has shaken off his bout of man flu and will be available for selection but will find it hard to displace Chritsian Nade who started the first game of the season.

Central midfielders Juanito and Steven Quinn may hope to continue their partnership from last season but Alberto is also ensuring the managers decision is difficult. Its entirely possible Juanito will be rested to ensure his availability for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen if Fletcher will continue his rotation policy on his goalkeepers as Paul Smith turned in a man of the match performance last weekend against Southampton.

"Dis-respect us at your peril "- Davies-Evans

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans has been quick to respond to Sheffield United manager - Andy Fletchers comments that he may rest some players against Nottingham Forest this week.

"Yeah I saw the comments and was a little surprised. I think that sides may come undone if they think of us as a little club and try to rest players against us. It makes no difference to me as I always plan to play the strongest oppossition team possible so if they then choose to rest players - It will be their downfall not ours.

I'm sure that Andy didn't mean to show us dis-respect but it will only help motivate my players that little bit extra to go out and claim 3 points against them. I also imagine that there was an element of mind games in there but Andy should know that I am far too long in the tooth to fall for any of that nonsense. Afterall, You can't kid a kidder as they say.

My players are now itching to get out on the field and start putting into action what we have been working hard on in training all week. I thin kit will be a close game but i am still confident that we claim a positive result against our illustrious opponents."

Press Conference from Bramall Lane

Andy Fletcher said

I think your reading too much into this Steve mate, I may rest Juanito as his condition has dropped and hes 31 and he's the only one who is struggling!!! Not because I'm not taking any game seriously. I will play my best team in every game this season, make no mistake. If its not a good enough team its not for the want of trying.

Calm Down Steve, its only a game of football. biggrin

Yorkshire Evening news

Good evening all we have today managed to track down Media shy Leeds manager David Davies-Evans. In a breif interveiw we talked about the heartache of the play off defeat the great start to the season and future transfers.

Good evening Dave how are you and what happend in the play off semi final.
Im very good thanks. We matched Sunderland shot for shot and really should have won the game, but in the end we did not quite have enough against the favourates to go up last year.

Yes they were Dave and they are now still in leauge one.

Football is a funny old game and they did come up against a very good Shef Weds squad. The inexperience of the Sunderland manager didnt help the cause either.

So you are over it then Dave, and what of this season?

God yes, my target last year was top six and we achieved that so i am very happy with this. My target this year is top 4 and i think the way we started the season will send out a message to the leauge. I think we have a real good chance this year. I would like to ask the fans to get down here and support the lads this is going to be a great season. We have also dropped our ticket prices to £5.

Any new faces coming in Dave.

As you saw last week i brought in 2 players from Reggina the club i used to manage, both are great lads and i was so pleased to see  them get a brace each. This week we will have Perna Nicolo coming in for his second year long loan from Valencia and also the Experienced CB David Garcia from Cadiz.  Last week we pulled off an amazing signing Florent Malouda who is with us for the season thanks very much to Liverpool. However 2 players will be leaving us this week,Nyron Nosworthy and Jemal Johnson. I would like to thank them for there service to the club.

Many thanks for your time Dave and good luck this Weekend and the season

Cheers Guys

Italian Cup

Whilst many Italian supporters will be looking at two ties as being of interest in the First Round of the Italian Cup with Udinese facing Brescia and Chievo facing Ascoli, Napoli manager JD Jaques who is usually quiet before cup games, has spoken to Il Giornale di Napoli about the game his side face against Empoli.

"I should have placed a bet that we would be playing Azzurri in the Cup. I normally dont like to build up cup games as we normally don't progress particularly far in the Cup. But when we are drawn against Empoli I had to comment."

"They may have got rid of Sculli, who was the one who fuelled our rivalry, but we still don't like to see them doing well. Even without him they are still a dangerous team. They have a couple of tough defenders, but we will be attempting to get as many shots on goal as possible in the game because Roberto is well known as a dodgey keeper."

"It is tough to pick a winner between the two teams but I am sure that the Napoli fans will be right behind us, and will help us to find those extra legs."

"I will be talking to the lads about the importance of ours games against Azzurri this season, and the cup game will be no different. It would be nice to knock them out of the cup and do the double over them. However to do that we would have to be on the top of our game."

RE: WEEK 2

Milan plan major scouting mission.

AC Milan manager Luke Coakley confirmed the club are investing in the scouting market this season and plan a major operation in both Germany and Brazil.
"We have looked at the scouting market for a number of seasons and feel we have missed out in the past.  We signed Niang last season and he has been one of the best signings I have made as manager in terms of value of money."
It is believed that Milan have agreed deals to raise funds of just over 50 million at the moment to blitz any competitors out the running and gain the top targets wanted.

"We will be going into the scouting market in a strong position and will be hoping to get any targets the manager wants." said a Milan insider.
It is believed that Pato, Lennon and Aqualini have all been sold to raise the funds needed although Milan will only confirm the sale or Pato and Lennon and both will be returning on loan before the end of the season.

Ascoli Need Confidence, Raffaello Might be leaving but Bellusci is staying

Jonny Sinclair today admitted his players took last season quite badly.

'We didn't do well last season I just hope it doesn't havea knock on effect this season as we lost against Brescia although to be honest they are favouites to go up and they were in Serie A last season with us as well my players just need to gain some confidence and we should start pickng up the points I hope we can kick start the season by getting a win against my old club Cagliari

Jonny Sinclair was also quick to quash rumours that Giuseppe Bellusci is moving rumoured to be Real Mallorca, Sampdoria Middlesbourgh and Real Madrid ''There are clubs and managers intereted in him of course he isa quality player but im not selling him he's our best cb why would i sell him? i don't need to sell him so i won't its as simple as that im flattered our playrs are getting so much interest it ust mean we're doing something right, However we have received many offers for Davide Raffaello in recent weeks and me and Davide have been in long discussions about him maybe moving on of course he's wants to play at the highest level and i don't want to stand in his way if he did leave it would have to be in the best inerest of Ascoli and Davide himself otherwise there' no point selling him and regretting it later It's rumoured most top clubs such as Liverpool, Barcelona, Chelsea Real Madrid, Arsenal and Inter Milan are all rumoured to be interested in him''
