Sunderland chairman has given the manager a vote of confidence as the team slipped near the back of the play-offs this week.
English pundits have agreed Craig Radford and Steven Esdale are making it tough for Chelsea this season and tipped one of the outsiders to shock the division by winning the title.
Celta Vigo manager Gareth Gardner is being heavily linked to a move to Serie A in the Italian papers.
Roma are reportedly unhappy with Glenn Whitter and are lining up Huw Evans as his replacement from Brescia.
Meanwhile Spanish papers believe Evans is actually set to join Villarreal.
Kevin Nolan says he wants a move back to England despite playing 10 matches already this season for Sevilla, and Sevilla are willing to let him leave.
Stephen Wells is tracking Scott Parker from Watford in the hope of strengthening his midfield in the fight to survive in La Liga.
Udinese are monitoring the situation at Sunderland with the view to step in and offer Dale Price a way out of the heated situation.
Norwich have again been linked to life long fan Jonny Sinclair who has previously brushed off speculation to remain at Ascoli.
Bristol City are keen on a surprise move for Fulham boss Terry Manifold, despite the new Fulham board telling Manifold he has a 'job for life' after his loyalty.
The Italian FA has backed up recent comments about the lack of quality at the top of their nations system by saying Fiorentina are the up and coming light in the leagues with their attack style, and have urged Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Inter Milan to launch a real title challenge this season with Juventus to show their credentials.
Nottm Forest 3-2 Southampton Post match press conference with Steve Davies-Evans
Speaking after his sides 3-2 victory over rivals Southampton, an understandably emotional Steve Davies-Evans spoke to the waiting media.
Media - Steve, You just love coming back from 2-0 down?
SDE - Well it seems like it but I have just told the players that if they do that to me again, They will probably end up putting me in hospital. I'm ofcourse delighted that they showed their "never say die" attitude yet again but I would be far happier of we started dominating games from the off instead of when we are 2-0 down.
Media - The results for you this week have been very kind. With Leeds, Southampton and Sunderland losing, you find yourself 3rd and just 1 point off top spot, can you go on to win the title?
SDE - How did I know that question was coming?! Obviously we are in a position to challenge for it now as we are only a point behind but we will be doing everything like we have before. We will try and win every game and if it means that we will be in a title challenge come the end of the season then so be it but for now, we are just concentrating on getting asmany points as possible under our belt.
Media - Craig Gardner scored on his debut, how did you rate his performance?
SDE - I think he adapted pretty well to be honest. It was a tough decision whether to pick him or Billy [Dennehy]. In the end we went for Craig for his experience and he bagged himself a goal so we are obviously pleased.
Media - You now have a home game against Charlton before you travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace, are these games that you would expect to win?
SDE - Well we will go into those games high on confidence after taking 4 points from the Sunderland and Southampton games but the one thing I woun't allow is my squad to get complacent! We have worked very hard this season and we are not about to throw it all away now because of bad attitude! We will prepare just the same as we have for the last two games and we will do everything possible to get two wins. It won't be easy as we have seen Palace beat Sunderland this week so there is no way we will be taking anything for granted.
Media - Lastly Steve, We can't let you go without asking you about the sensational news that your brother Dave is no longer the manager of Leeds United. Can you shed some light on what happened?
SDE - I'm affraid that I'm not interesed in making any comment regarding my brother of Leeds United Football Club. The only thing I will say is that Dave has retired from football management and Leeds will now be looking for a new manager. Thank you.
Nottm Forest v Charlton Athletic - Pre Match Press Conference
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans has today held his early pre-match press conference at the media suite at Nottingham Forest's City Ground.
Media - Steve, What is the mood like within the squad?
SDE - It's very good! I think the boys are still "buzzing" from the victory against Southampton, it's just important that they channel that into focusing on our next match and I have to be honest, that seems exactly what they are doing. I've been really impressed with the character and maturity of this team dispite how young the squad is.
Media - How important is it to get 3 points this weekend against Charlton?
SDE - Well it's always important to get a win no matter who we are playing but we are in good form and hopefulyl we can continue that this weekend.
Media - Will there be any signings this week?
SDE - As of yet there will be nobody coming in or leaving although that can change as we do have a few days left before we can register any movement.
Media - Looking at other fixtures this weekend, Leeds United are away to Reading and Sheff Utd are at home to Preston. With Sheff Utds win pretty much a formality, do you think that Leeds Utd are capeable of slipping up against Reading? If that is the case and Nottm Forest claim a win, it will find you in the top 3 ahead of Leeds, is this a possibility?
SDE - Well yes it's a possibility as it can mathamatically happen. I would be delighted if we find ourselves in the top 2 at the end of the weekend but as I have said a million times, we cannot allow ourselves to worry about anyone else in this league, I want us to go out and play the football we are capeable of and hopefully claim a win, if we do then we will look at other results. If we are lucky and the others drop points then that is just a bonus. I always plan that Leeds and Sheff Utd will both win so we will have to see what happens come the final whistles.

Spurs boss Richard Jefferies was delighted with his sides 3-1 win at OLd trafford.
"We played very well and gave a very strong United team lots of problems, I cannot be happier with my teams response to the defeat to Villa and they have shown great character in bouncing back, I know United had a couple of players missing but i was still over the moon with the result and it was really nice of Craig to come in after the game and congratulate my players, that really meant a lot to all of us"
" I'm sure all our travelling fans had a great night and this will now be the result which kicks us on to greater things"
Scott Parker is set to sign for Manchester United in a surprise move from Watford.
Scott Parker's move to Manchester United is on the verge of collapse over a few million pound difference in valuation.
Spurs fans hailed a memorable night in an otherwise fairly bleak season as they knocked out a strong Manchester United side in the English Cup.
Ashley Harris is being linked with a move from Wigan to Udinese after a successful initiation into management.
However Udinese also have their eye on Celta Vigo manager Gareth Gardner who has guided his team to top of the Segunda Division.
Chelsea are ready to sign Mark van Bommel this week from Inter Milan after the midfielder was put up for sale.
Levante have targeted Juventus forward Giovanni dos Santos on loan in a bid to retain their mid table status in La Liga.
Norwich hope to lure away club fan Jonny Sinclair from Ascoli following a poor half season in Serie B.
However Norwich may have been put off Sinclair after a run of disappointing results at his current club.
Villarreal are preparing a 'lucrative package' to attract outspoken Sampdoria manager Mark Rollings to the Spanish club.
Bristol City have admitted they would 'be delighted' to have Stephen Wells back in charge.
Man City want to tempt Cardiff manager Stuart Price away from South Wales after reports the manager was considering his future.
Two managers are ready to risk the sack at their current clubs in the hope of being appointed Everton manager, despite the club issuing a number of statements confirming they have no interest in filling the position at the moment.
Speculation was mounting today that outspoken manager Mark Rollings may be open to any moves for his services as Villareal bosses were said to be assembling "a significant package" to tempt the young welsh boss.
Rollings is a fans favourite at Liugi Ferrais and news that their manager is being lined up by teams abroad is bound to worry the blucheriati faithful. Rollings stopped short of a come-and-get-me plea but refused to rule out a future move from the club.
"You never say never in football. Those that do are lying and those that don't get vilified for it! My stance is simple; I am employed by Sampdoria and while that remains the case I will give this club 100%. I have not been contacted by anyone at villareal or anyone else for that matter. Until such a time comes when that happens there isn't much more to say."
With a number of high profile roles sitting empty at present speculation is in overdrive as press rooms attempt to second guess who maybe going where. Rollings spoke frankly about his take on the plethora of vacancies.
"football is so fickle and while your at the top you see there to be shot down! Man City is a huge job and I was sorry to see my good friend Chris give up the post there! They are a massive club, with a chairman who wants to be the best. Stuart Price would be an ideal candidate but I get the feeling he is half-way through his project at Cardiff and may want to see it through. I think with the right man in charge Man City have the potential to really make an impact domestically and abroad!
Former Manchester City manager Luke Coakley today backed Stuart Price to take over and make a success of Manchester City. The former Saville manager has had a successful time at Cardiff but the lure of turning Manchester City into the top team in England and Europe is thought to be tempting him. Coakley now in Milan believes Stuart Price has what it takes to take Manchester City that extra step and is just the challenge that should excite him. It takes a certain type of manager to make Manchester City a success and I have no doubt Stuart Price is the man they need. They have a great fan base and a strong base to the squad and a chairman who will back him to the hilt no doubt.
Coakley however did play down talks of a rift with his former chairman and believes Price can work well with him. Me and my former chairman didnt always see the club going in the same direction but thats football. I hit his target every season and he was happy with that and no doubt Stuart Price could do the same. He isnt a quiet chairman but he is someone who is willing to put his money where his mouth is and for that you cannot fault him.

Cardiff City manager - PM or Email at ccfc999@hotmail.com
Real Valladolid manager Simon Jenkins came forward today to state his belief of fellow manager and close friend Stuart Price's future.
'While the lure of a top team is a great one, I do not see Stuart leaving Cardiff. Just by looking at his previous careers it shows that he will not leave a job untill he has achieved all he can, and Cardiff are not a dominant force in the footballing world quite yet.
'He has built up a squad for the future and I would be extremely surprised if he did not see them develop further'.
Mr Jenkins finished with a coy smile; 'He knows that the second he leaves Cardiff I'll be in there for a couple of his players - and he knows who those are!'
Former Man City boss chris Hanton has told press in Greece that he backs Stuart Price to take the hot seat at City and turn them in to true greats. Hanton who is taking a break in Greece after jumping the City ship last week said "If there was 1 manager i would like to see go there its Stu he wll get them playing the right way and will get on well with the fans and board, the only thing is will he jump ship...i dont think so"
"Price has to do what he feels is right" - Davies-Evans
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans has today spoken out regarding rumours that Manchester City are ready to make the former Sevilla manager Stuart Price their next manager. Speaking to waiting reorters outside the Forest training ground, Davies-Evans had the following to say......
"On the Stuart Price/Man City issue.....I think that Stuart will make the right decision for Stuart Price! If that is to join Manchester City now then he will, but only Stuart knows if he wants that sort of challenge."
Nottingham Forest are currently linked to Cardiff City under a feeder club agreement between the two managers and a potential move for Price to Eastlands could hinder Forest's promotion hopes. When this was put to the Forest manager, Davies-Evans responded with backing for the former Sevilla manager.....
"Yeah of course we would like Stuart to stay at Cardiff from a selfish point of view but in all honestly, Stuart has to look after himself and we wouldn't want him to turn down a move because of a link that we have. If that move came about then we would just have to evaluate the situation and move on. Stuart is a top guy and if a move to Manchester City would benefit him then everyone at Nottingham Forest would wish him the best."
Cardiff manager Stuart Price called a short press conference to discuss the topic of conversation in the media about his future after being linked to Man City
How pleased were you with the West Ham result?
"It was very pleasing. They have a great team there but we took advantage of a weak team and punished them for it. My players can only play the team put out against them so it was a good result"
Have you been reading the newspapers recently?
"I have. I want to thank some of the managers who have spoken highly of me. It has all come as a surprise for me this week!"
Have Man City approached you to fill the job?
"No I have had no contact from the Man City owner or any of their representatives. The only meeting I have had this week was with Carlos Acuna about his choice of bright orange boots in training. He looks like a campaign ad for Tango"
Would you be interested in the Man City job?
"I enjoy a good challenge. Today I am a Cardiff manager. If the euro champions offered me a job I would say no. If an ambitious club came to me with an attractive plan it would be rude not to consider it"
Are you putting your hat in the ring Stuart?
"It's too warm for hats! That will be all for today"
Thanks Stuart
Cheers Stu - Cardiff

Celta Vigo manager comes out of the media spotlight
Hows things going at Vigo Gareth ?
"Things at Vigo are going extremely good thanks. I wasnt expecting us to be 3 points clear and have a better goal difference at this point of the season. The young lads iv brought in are doing me proud and long may it continue"
I see you have drastically cut the age of the squad
"Yes iv probably cut the average age of our squad in half and theres more young talent to come. Iv invested heavily in a top assisstant to hopefully find more youth and to help bring my current crop of youngsters through. The most shining of our crop at the moment is Gorka Elustondo who i expect to be a great player in years to come"
Hows your relationship going with Spurs ?
" Rich at Spurs is a top class manager and is doing a great job at Tottenham. The 3 youngsters i currently have here (Alnwick,Palmiteri and Mussacci) will have a big part to play in the Premiership. Palmiteri already has 12 goals in 12 games and 5 assists which is nothing short of spectacular. Iv also agreed a deal with Rich to bring him back for the 2nd half of the season. The way hes going he may break Segunda goalscoring records. A big thankyou must go to Richard at Tottenham for this "
Whats your thought on the recent paper articles linking you to Udinese ?
" When managers do well, they allways get linked to big clubs such as Stu Price at Cardiff. I see Udinese as a lot smaller team than Celta Vigo so why would i take a backwards step of going there ? Maybe if the likes of Everton came in for me id have to give it a second thought, but at the moment im extremely happy at Celta Vigo and am currently in the middle of a project which im enjoying. My relationship with the fans and chairman is top class, so I wont be leaving while things around me are looking so good"
Thanks for the interview Gareth, it was a pleasure
" Can i just add 1 more thing please. Id like to say thanks to ex Leeds boss Dave Davies Evans on the fine job he did at Leeds and ill miss him not being in the managent scenario. We had very good link ups between Leeds and Celta Vigo and he will be missed by many over here. Lets hope 1 day he makes a return to management to managers like him is what the game needs"
Dave Davies-Evans in shock return as assistant manager.
Sky Sports have reason to believe that Dave Davies-Evans is returning to management with old club Reggina as Jonathan Petty's assistant. They caught up with Jonathan Petty and asked if it was true.
"No this is simply a rumour, yes I have spoken to Dave since he left Leeds but we have not talked about him coming here. Don't get me wrong if he wants to come here and join me until he finds a club, he is very welcome. When the players seen this on Sky Sports they were very excited as most of them have worked with Dave before and the players who have not worked with him have stated they would love too!"
So if Dave rang you and asked to come and work with you he could?
"Yes, providing the chairman is happy with it and the FA don't step in"
Forest move quickly to appoint former Leeds United manager Dave Davies-Evans as their new Director of football!
At a hastily arranged press conference at the City Ground this afternoon, Nottingham Forest manager Steve Davies-Evans confirmed that his brother and ex Leeds United manager Dave Davies-Evans would join the club as Director of Football. Davies-Evans stated......
"Hello and thank you for coming along today. I would like to open with confirmation that my brother Dave will be joining the club as our new Director of Football. It's been rumoured that Dave has been looking for a way back into the game and we felt that we could benefit from his skills and experience. Daves main responsibilites will be looking for potenial signings for Nottm Forest.
It is a role that we feel will work well within the club as I already have a superb relationship with my brother. He also knows this league very well as he did an excellent job in guiding Leeds to the top of the league for most of this season and now we feel that we are better off for his knowledge of our rivals.
I would like to thank Dave and welcome him aboard and into the Nottingham Forest family. I'm sure that he will love it just as much as I do and will only help this wonderful football club become successful again."
Davies-Evans theen opened it up to the floor and answered questions from the media.....
Media - Steve, how did this move come about?
SDE - Well obviously I've spoken to Dave quite abit since he left Leeds United and he was ready to come back into the game in some capacity and after speaking to him, It was obvious that bringing him in could only benefit us.
Media - Is this the sort of link up that worked so well for Ian and Bob Dowie at Crystal Palace?
SDE - Yes exactly like that. We are aware that more will be made of it due to Dave being my brother but in all honesty, he's the perfect guy for the role whether he's my brother or not.
Media - Will this be a permanant appointment?
SDE - Well Dave has signed a contract until the end of the season so that we all have time to evaluate the situation and make sure that it's right for everyone and if the chairman and I are both happy that Dave is doinga good job and if Dave himself feels that it'sright to continue then we will look at extenending his contract. As I said, I'm sure that he will love being at this club. If Dave gets an offer to manager another club in the future and he feels it's right to move then nobody at Nottingham Forest would stand in his way.
Media - Lastly Steve, Will Dave be moving to Nottingham?
SDE - Well not at first. Dave has a family home in South Wales in Mid Glamorgan which he will spend most of his time from. He will come back and for to the City Ground to watch games etc but alot of his work can be done from his South Wales base. We feel that this way, he will get to spend some time with his wife and young daughter but still do the job we need him to do. It's win,win for everyone. Dave will initially spend this weekend with me in Nottingham to watch the game and discuss his role in greater detail before taking it back with him to South Wales.
The two Davies-Evans brothers then left the media suite and headed for training where Dave Davies-Evans would be introduced to some of the players.
Speculation is continuing to mount that contreversial manager Mark Rollings may be set to leave his post at Sampdoria. The welsh manager refused to rule out a move away from the club last week and sources close to Rollings suggested he was "disgusted" with the 3-2 loss at home to Fiorentina. Despite still being on course to fulfill pre-season predictions their is a growing swell of opinion that a move away may tempt Rollings.
Spanish papers have linked the sampdoria boss with a move to ailing Villareal, while Rollings made clear his admiration for Man City in his last statement. However, Cardiff City's Stuart Price looks the front runner for that particular role.
A move to England, where Rollings enjoyed successive promotions with Coventry City, could suit and Rollings is said to favour a move away from his measured passing system to a more flexible and direct structure which could affect any potential employment decision.
Finally a close friend of the Rollings family suggested things may move quicker than expected.
"I get the feeling he will be keen to get his future tied up soon, one way or another. He loves Sampdoria, but maybe believes both he and the club could benefit from a fresh approach. "
In a post-match press conference at Liugi Ferraris Rollings refused to take questions on his future, speaking only to pay tribute to the latest managerial arrival in Serie A.
"I was delighted to hear Chris Hanton named Parma manager. He is a terrific manager and a good friend of mine in managerial circles. We haven't spoken as much recently but I always look out for his results. He will inevitably be a success and I wish him the very best of luck!"
Sky Sports News interviewed Aston Villa manager Liam Riste after the final whistle this weekend where his team met Coventry.
SSN: Your team managed to come from a goal down to beat Coventry 2-1. What was your take on the game? LR: I was a little disappointed to go a goal down, but my team responded very well and showed their strong will to grab two goals back. Gallas seems to be making a habit of scoring vital goals, and Maggio... Well... He scores once in a blue moon. But what a time to grab one, eh?
SSN: Other results went in your favour, any comments on the other games? LR: Well I don't really like commenting on other games as I prefer to focus on how I get on first. But the North London Derby was a particular highlight of mine. When Torres scored the winner late on, there was a smile on everyones faces. This has made our position a little bit more comfortable.
SSN: In your last interview you made a few predictions, any comments on these? LR: Like I said, I wanted 3 points this game and 3 points the next. I can't see Spurs getting anything against Chelsea next week, which will leave us 4 points clear at the half-way stage if we get the desired 3 points. I have a feeling that Blackburn are losing steam and are getting plunged into a survival dogfight, especially with their current financial situation!
SSN: You mentioned Richard Jefferies' Spurs losing to Arsenal as a key result, why is this? LR: The loss takes Spurs into the relegation zone and puts us a point up on them. This will add to the already increasing strain that Rich is undergoing. A loss to such bitter rivals will be hard to swallow, even after beating Man Utd in the cup.
SSN: Your team beat Sheffield Wednesday in the cup on Monday. You played a below full strength team, was there any particular highlights you took from this game? LR: There were many positives from the game. David Villa getting a brace was particularly pleasing as he has turned provider rather than predator so far this season. Also, Montalto grabbed an assist, Bencheriff got his debut and a great all-round performance lead us on to the Quater-Finals where we have a favourable draw against Championship side Newcastle.
SSN: You have been pictured lately meeting up with current Wigan Manager Ashley Harris, and rumours have linked him to Udinese, have you anything to say about the matter? LR: Ash and I are great friends and I invited him over to my house for a friendly drink and open discussions about the loan deal involving Nathan Delfouneso, who has turned out some great performances in a Wigan jersey so far. It's resulted in good news for Wigan fans as the loan is set to be extended further. On the Udinese matter, Ash is wholely committed to managing Wigan to the top-flight next season and would be very surprised if he left England for Italy.
SSN: Ok thanks for your time. LR: No problem, Cheers.
Nottm Forest 1-1 Charlton - Post match press conference with Steve Davies-Evans
Media - Steve, in the past few weeks, you have come into the press hall feeling somewhat elated, is there more of a deflated feel this week?
SDE - Yeah I'd say there is. We've again made it hard for ourselves be giving the opposition a lead that we've had to claw back. I'm pleased that the boys again showed character to get back on level terms but I think a it was one too many games doing this that stopped us going on and nicking the winner.
Media - You've dropped a place to 4th this week and with Leeds United and SHeff Utd both winning, you've also dropped 2 points further off the automatic promotion places. Are the squad feeling down about this.
SDE - Well no, as we have a target that we are still ahead of. Anything more than our target will be a massive bonus but for now, we are still delighted with the progress we've made.
Media - You have a big game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next week, on paper, this is going to be a tough game....how do you intend to go about it?
SDE - Well we'll stick to our game. It will be tough as you say but we have some very good players in our team and we intend to go out and try and gain a positive result.
Blades Boss Fletcher Insists Club are Still On Track
Despite a narrow victory against an improving Preston side this week, Fletcher insists that the Play Offs are Sheffield Uniteds target this season. As the season reaches the halfway mark, Fletcher hinted at a tough second half to the season.
" Its going to be very tight in the top 4, if we can fight on and keep a gap open between automatic promotion places and the play offs we will have had an outstanding season, realistically we have to assume the clubs with transfer funds will pick up wins in all their games."
Us and Notts Forest are bucking that trend but as the season wears on players get injuries and knocks, its hard to sustain the momentum until the last day of the season. The prize for us however is massive and I know my squad will give it everything they have.
We face Sunderland next week and you write them off at your peril, just looking at their teamsheet hints at their underlyng ability and I believe they will kick on again at some point, lets hope they wait until after our game !
I'm really enjoying the challenge at the moment and look forward to forthcoming battles with Dale Price and Steve Davies-Evans, they are both exceptional managers in one of the toughest divisions in european football.
