An idea I've had on my list a while and had mentioned previously but looking for comments and opinions on it as to whether it has potential or not. Would managers want a coaching badge system like there is in real life?
It would be tiered like real life has Level 1, 2 then UEFA B and A and would consist of a mini quiz format. The questions would give situations you could come up against in the game and ask for your actions etc. Answers would be graded with more points for the best available option and if you score a certain amount, you would be allocated the coaching badge.
Obviously if it was tiered then they would become much harder questions, with early questions more about rules and basic tactical knowledge and harder badges more based on opinions and attitudes.
Badges would be used when deciding on moves between clubs, they would also help towards managers wages. I'd hope that they would also encourage managers to consider different aspects of the game and try to develop their own skills which would hopefully help you get better at the game.
Badges couldn't be taken constantly, as otherwise you could just keep taking them until you pass. Maybe they could cost a set amount and can only be taken say once a season? Again these details are open for debate.
If they did become a feature I would only want the score to be given back to the manager as managers may retake badges if they don't pass so they wouldn't be able to know which questions they got wrong.
As you can see there are details to be discussed even if people like this idea so leave comments here please.
I quite like the idea as it brings a different slant on the game. It is obvious to most in the game which managers are more successful when it comes to transfers and wheeling and dealing. However, they may not be as astute tactically as others that may allow for other managers to close the gap in terms of experience.
As for paying for it, would that come from the club's budget or the manager's wages?
Would the cost of taking a particular badge be the same for the Chelsea manager and the Torino manager (example only) or will there be some sort of handicap system i.e. Top division managers having to pay two to three times more?
Just a couple of thoughts to be added into the mix.
How its paid for is up for debate, so managers have a chance to voke if they want wages or club bank balance to pay for it. I'm considering having a free one go to each manager so everyone would get a chance to get the 1st level badge.
Personally I think the cost should be the same. But increasing for the higher badges to encourage people to not just waste lots and lots of goes trying.
sounds good, though i think the lower level badges should be open more frequently than the higher ones, as the difficulty gets higher it should cost more, and you should only be able to take them less often
It is tangible way for your own actions to benefit the team you are at, while at the same time not significantly disadvantaging people that dont invest a lot of time into the game and just prefer to do a teamsheet each week
Tough call on who pays for it - in FA id give the nod to it coming out out of managers wages - but in real life I would very much imagine your current club foots the bill (unless you are unemployed lol) so there is an argument for both cases
And in terms of it being more expensive for more high profile clubs - im not sure that makes a lot of sense. It should be equal to all parties - as its an improvement to the manager and not actually the club he works for
Being honest i think its a poor idea that would spoil the game. I really like the game as it is and think this is too big a step to take. You can see the difference between good and bad managers by the time spent on the game dependable on transfers. If you dont put the effort in then you wont get as far. Why ruin it by silly tests where the results will allways be very arguementative ? diferent opinions is what this game is all about and doing something like this will personally ruin it for myself
To be honest I am still undecided? What form would it take - multiple choice questions? Could we have some sort of mock-up before deciding whether it would be put in the game?
I agree im undecided. I dont like the idea of a manager being excellent at his club but rubbish at questions and not getting what he deserves and same vise versa. I suppose this is a way to improve on the wages etc etc

i think it's quite a good idea it's another way managers can try to improve the game without it being just based on the results we get each week
If a club are looking for a new manager they might choose someone say who has more badges than another if they had been do equally well so it would give managers to put on their CV and give them a help further up on the managerial ladder
the price should be the same for all teams if it were go ahead it's the same for scouting i don't see why we'd need to differ prices for different clubs in this instance
i reckon the like the lower badges should be more frequent with the harder ones less frequent anf if you fail on a badge you like can't take it again for a certain amount of weeks? so clubs who do have the money to keep trying can't do that
the format would be interesting as Simon says how many questions per say for each badge would that to increase the higher the badge?
yeah but I think there are enough things like that already for finding new jobs: manager ratings, hall of fame, fan and chairman ratings, manager of the season, wages, history etc. Does there really need to be more?
It would be multiple choice - hence why you wouldn't get specific marked answers of what was right and wrong back as you could just plump for a different option next time.
I agree lower badges should be more frequent than top badges, so thats a good suggestion, as they would be more expensive as well to take.
Currently your wages are decided on a number of factors. Part of it is your success via results, part is based on a mark I update regularly on how I rate your ability to adapt to weather, use tactics etc. The badges would simply give you a chance to shine in an area that already exists behind the scenes. It would be broken into sections probably, with one focusing on weather, one tactics, one development, one money handling etc.
As I say, the rating already exists behind the scenes, but a badge system would give you a chance to show a greater ability as maybe you're very good with wet weather tactics but your team isn't set up to play that way and as such, it doesn't show in your tactics when you play - but it would show in a theoretical question.
If its just adding to what is already happening behind teh scenes then why not. I suppose if we are paying a "fee" to take the badges then its up to each person anyway.
I do think the cost should come from the manager not the club though so maybe the wages needs to be developed further?
