SUNDERLAND MANAGER DALE PRICE SPEAKS ABOUT THE RUN TO THE END OF THE SEASON

SSN Mr Price Sunderland have done a lot better than most people thought they would do what is this down to?

DP Well I think it is a mix of players giving their all week in week out and the fans have played a massive part in our success this season they have been like an extra man.

SSN You play Leeds this week last season everyone thought Leeds would win league one but in the end it was you that took the title, now this season they are bottom and you are pushing to go up does it surprise you that they have done so bad this season?

DP No it doesnt I always thought they were punching above their weight to be honest.

SSN Now it looks like that Cardiff are going to run away with the title but the second spot is a close run thing between you and Sheffield Wednesday and you play each other in the last game can you see it coming down to that game?

DP I have to be honest here I dont think Sheffield Wednesday manager Callum Jefferies has the bottle to keep his team up there for the rest of the season I can see them slipping up a few times before that last game where we should be able to just relax and take it as just another game in preparation for next season

Casillas stuck in Spain

We were expecting you to sign Iker Casillas last week so why has nothing been announced?
"We have a deal in place for Iker. He is a brilliant player and is one of my favourite players in football just now so I was overjoyed when we got a deal with Real Madrid for him. We lose two good young players to get him but I think he is a great piece in the winning jigsaw we are trying to build here"

That sounds great so why no unveiling?
"Last week we were looking for a deal to be agreed but it failed. We have tried to clear up the date of the transfer this week but we have been told Chris is away this week and can do no transfer business with us"

This must have an effect on the European team you pick to play AC Milan?
"If Chris is away tonight the transfer will happen next week. You have spotted how unlucky or perhaps convenient it is for Real Madrid to hold on to Iker Casillas for the european week. If they were not playing Chelsea in the quarter final of europe this week would we have been able to contact Chris and get the deal done today? It does make you think...."

How do you see your chances against AC Milan without Iker?
"Luke have built a good team. We need to work hard and make sure we take nothing for granted. They are very close to being out of the fight for the Italian title so we have to expect a very strong team against us. If we could win and get to the semi final of europe it would be a big moment in the history of this club"
