Crystal Palace

I would officially like to apply for the vacant managers position at Crystal Palace. I believe that I have the perfect skills to help build a successful team that will be strong for years to come. I know the lower leagues very well having spent the majority of my FA Career in them and mist recently proved that I can help a team get promoted from League 1. My preference is to help build a young and successful team that can build but also be successful in the here and now.

My biggest strength is my ability to use the transfer market and with only 14 players, I believe Palace need alot of work in order to mould them into a good team. I believe in my time at Southampton, I have shown that I can secure both young and talented players that can do well in both League 1 and the Championship.

I have the blessing of my current chairman to make this application and if unsuccessful then I am more than happy to continue what I am doing at Saints. If I am successful then I feel that the squad I will be leaving behind at Southampton is far and away better than when I took over and would allow a new manager to have a great starting point to work from.

I would love the oppertunity to work at Selhurst Park
and I am ultra confident that I will get them promoted this season and I will give my personal promise to guarentee promotion this season to the Championship and if I fail, I would happily hand in my resignation if the board wished. Crystal Palace have huge potential and and I believe I am the perfect man to take this club forward.

Kind regards,

Steve Davies-Evans

Dear Crystal Palace board

If you are searching for a new manager then I would be very interested. I have been in the game for a little while and have only managed Empoli. Last season I got Empoli promoted through the playoffs knocking out two teams who were better on paper than my own. I have had some tough games at the start of the fixtures in serie A but have had close results and that would give me some confidence in keeping them up if I stayed for the season. Since getting them promoted I have looked for a new challenge because I think Empoli are a good serie B team but lack resources facilities and ambition to go higher than I have taken them and I informed the board of me need to challenge myself at the start of the season and they are aware that might be away from their team.

Empoli were low in the table and had a small old squad when I joined I have brought down the age and improved the standard delivering more success than the board were hoping for with no funding to achieve it while I have been here and I think those are the skills you need for a manager at your team.

Crystal Palace is a historically important team playing in a low division. My choice to move there is not motivated by a big wage rise or the chance to seek trophy wins or manage top players. It is the challenge of re building a small squad going nowhere from the bottom up. I would use the funding at the club to develop all areas not just the playing staff because without this Crystal Palace are just like Empoli looking at the Premiership through a glass ceiling. Increased stadia and maximised revenue and shirt sales can be prepared with the funding and that will help Crystal Palace compete in a higher division creating its own new funds through those areas of income.

I discussed my ambitions with the chairman of Manchester City when the job was available. I was pleased with the response even if I was not his first choice because his reply gave me confidence in my next step in football management. I am not a Crystal Palace fan and I cant say it would be a dream to manage there or any other cliché but the potential to develop a club in all areas is something I want to do and any chairman who can offer me that challenge would get my interest at the moment.

I hope my skills and plans interest you and I look forward to hearing back.
