Price Isn't Right

In a press conference called for this evening, Recreativo Huelva chairman Petr Kellner has announced that manager Dale Price's contract has been terminated with immediate effect. After losing 8 of their first 11 matches this season, the board at Recreativo Huelva set down the gauntlet for their Welsh manager demanding 12 points from the upcoming 7 matches in order to move comfortably away from the relegation zone and prove there was substance to build on for next season.

0-4 Sevilla (A)
1-1 Real Sociedad (H)
4-4 Espanyol (A)
3-3 Barcelona (H)
3-0 Real Mallorca (A)
4-4 Athletic Bilbao (A)
........................................
Real Zaragoza (H)

The recent run of form has been an improvement and fans have commented on a more positive thinking lineup each week from Dale Price who had begun expressing himself more through attacking football since the ultimatum but it all seems too late now. The run included an impressive 4-4 draw with Espanyol and a 3-3 draw with Barcelona, a pair of games no one expected struggling Recreativo Huelva to get anything from. However a 1-1 home draw with Real Sociedad and a 4-4 draw with Athletic Bilbao in games they should have won, proved costly.

With only 7 points from the first 6 games this weeks 4-4 draw with Athletic Bilbao means even a win next week against Real Zaragoza won't reach the 12 point total demanded by the Recreativo Huelva board. The unbeaten run of 5 games looks impressive but with 4 of those being draws, Recreativo Huelva are still well and truly stuck in a relegation scrap.

"We are just 1 point about the drop zone and Real Mallorca proved with their win this week that they're by no means out of it yet. We can't think we're too big to go down, its still very much on the cards if we're not careful. The board and myself have spent £45 million on the current squad, not all spent by Dale Price but he has benefited from having the players that money was spent on at his disposal. Anyone who looks at us can see we're a La Liga team and should be safe before now. We want to thank him for his efforts over the last few seasons and we all saw an improvement recently but draws won't keep the club up and neither will impressive high scoring games. We would take a 1-0 right now if it meant we get the 3 points towards survival. In the past we've given managers free reign and we've been relegated despite weaker teams being in the division and surviving. We're fully aware that situation can't happen again and sadly that means losing Dale."

Dale Price may now see a move to Italy on the cards since he owns Southampton limiting him from moving back to England, and with the vacant Spanish clubs all in similar mostly less well off positions to Recreativo Huelva and as such unlikely to take a chance after it hasn't worked out there. With Mark Rollings leaving Inter Milan for pastures new, one Italian newspaper has put him as favourite for the job there, while others are speculating on moves to Genoa, Fiorentina, Roma, or Lazio.

As for his replacement at Recreativo Huelva, the bookies have Dave Davies-Evans (Leeds), Jackie Yeo (Villarreal), Ashley Davies (Udinese), Duncan Keary (Torino), Raymond Farnell (Chievo), Rob Holden (Charlton) and Frank Deeming (Bristol City) as the candidates for punters to pick from.

PRICE GUTTED BY SACKING

Former Recreativo manager Dale Price spoke tonight after being sacked.

SSN Hi Mr Price obviously not the best of nights how do you feel?

DP How do you think I feel? I am totally gutted and upset to be leaving Recreativo I have had the best time in football at this club and I will miss the club the players and the fans.

SSN Did you think you were going to be given a second chance?

DP To be honest with you I didnt yes we have gone 5 games without defeat but this season still hasnt been good enough and I was set a target by the board and I failed to reach that target thats just the way it goes.

SSN Where next for you now then?

DP Who knows all I do know is that I dont want to be out of football to long Im already missing it and cant wait to get back into football.

SSN Media reports have linked you with jobs at these clubs in Italy what do you think about going to Inter Milan, Genoa, Fiorentina, Roma, or Lazio?

DP Well Im not and would never comment on clubs that already have managers. But the job at Inter Milan does sound good they are a massive club and Mark (Rollings) has done a fantastic job there after the mess they were in when he took over.

SSN Well thank you very much for speaking to us and I wish you all the luck for the future

DP Thank you.

Davies has been linked with vacant positions at Leicester and Recreativo Huelva who recently sacked their manager just hours ago.

The young manager again told Italian media that he no decisions would be made until the end of the current season.

I have a few months left on my contract at Udinese and I am confident that nothing will continue to disrupt our season. I can tell you that I have not been offered a new contract, but that doesnt mean I want to move straight on, far from it! I am loyal to the club, I have left other clubs without question because I wasnt committed but I want that to change. I hope I stay and get supported, we have a great team at the moment.

PRICE TAKES OVER AT ATALANTA

SSN Mr Price last night you were sacked by Recreativo today you are the new manager of Atalanta how has this happened so quickly?

DP Well about 10 mins after the interview I give last night I was contacted by the chairman and offered the job.

SSN Some will see this as a step down from Recreativo what do you say to this?

DP Yes some may say that but after speaking to the chairman last night he sold the club to me and the project he has here. He has shown his ambition by the contract he has given me the promises that he has made if we get promotion. I am looking forward to the challenge of achieving what he has planned.

SSN Your first game this week is against Cagliari are you looking forward to just getting going now?

DP Yes I cant wait until next weekend now I feel that we have a good chance of going up in the top two  we are only 6 points off 2nd but if we dont get that top 2 we will be looking forward to the play offs.

SSN Thanks for your time today Mr Price hope it all goes well with your new job.

DP Thank you

Napoli Boss Reminds Squad to Stay Focused on the Ultimate Prize.

After a disappointing defeat to Cheivo at the weekend, perhaps controversial as Fletcher left out his key striker, Lavezzi. he has reminded his squad of what is at stake this season.

"I'm wondering if the players have one eye on the cup semi final next week, if thats the case then they are misguided as I will pick the squad for that match based on who's performing , not who has been rested. Lavezzi was rested this week as his fitness stats that came back from the physio were very low, he has played a lot of games this season and I need him fit for the run in, weve brought in 2 strikers to support but I'm hoping its not too late to push still for automatic promotion although I admit its goign to be tough."

"I have some choices to make regarding strikers this week and I have 5 to choose from so I'm looking for sharpness that can only be found normally when your match fit."

"Our goal as always is promotion by whatever means, the cup is an added bonus for us and we of course want to win everything but all my players must take note, I will not tolerate a stepping off the gas"

This week we welcome Dale Price to the most improved football league in the world, the Italian League. His presence in Italy can only add to the future of Italian football and its general appeal. I know you will enjoy your stay here and we wish you all the best. It is still my target to pass Atalanta in Serie B and it will be interesting to see if his appointment interferes with that.

There are a few whispers being heard, and dare I say Chinese whispers, about a possible acquisition of an Italian club. Such a move would rock the Italian League completely. Imagine, as a manager, being given a box full of money to buy a new team?
I already have a list of players in my back pocket. Not that I will need it.
I do think it would be good for Italian football and look forward with interest to the next instalment.

The Italian leagues are now starting to form the shape of the completed league tables for this season. After Friday and the final results we will know who is about to be part of this years battle for the top places. In Serie A, Juventus are out in front and there doesnt seem to be anybody who will stop them winning the Italian Premier League this season. Steve Jenkins has had the results all to himself and it would take an earthquake to unsettle the side.

This weekend will see Sampdoria take on A. C. Milan and their current 3rd spot in the league at stake. I am sure that Chris Bishop will be planning to keep hold of this hard earned position but I have it down for a draw. Genoa, who are still without a manager, and doing very well indeed, could get the points at Fiorentini and upset the top places with a late run.

In Serie B most of the season has been pretty well predictable when it came league leaders but the picture could change this weekend with some very serious moves being contemplated for the top three positions. Napoli are scoring goals and could well hold Parma this weekend. Add to this the possibility of Udinese holding Ascoli to a draw and the picture starts to change dramatically.

The Udinese result is only a dream, at the moment, but I will have both my fingers crossed on Friday.

I think this weekend is my, and Siena's,  last chance to get in amongst them for a reasonable chance at promotion this season. We will not be taking prisoners this weekend.

Rollings headed to Midlands to sign terms?

Welsh manager Mark Rollings' short stint out of management looks set to be drawing to a close after the ex-Inter boss landed at East Midlands airport ahead of "extremely advanced" talks with an unnamed club. Newspaper reports have strongly linked Rollings with the vacant managers position at both Leicester City and West Brom and his arrival in the area seems likely to indicate one of these clubs is his likely destination.

WE SPOT WOLVES BOSS BARRO WHO SPOTS ROLLINGS IN LEICESTER - EXCLUUUUUUUUSIVE!!!!

After his team's disappointing home defeat to Portsmouth this weekend, Wolves boss TJ Barro gave his tired squad Tuesday off training and took his beautiful wife to Toby Carvery in Leicester as a late Valentine's Day gift. We caught him as he was leaving and asked him a few questions:

So TJ, how was your lunch?

"Well I have to be honest with you I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had beef, she had chicken, the roasties were bang on the money and the veg was superb."

Excellent - is this your first time at The Carvery?

"Yes it is mate - I got the idea from a friend of mine, ex-Inter boss Mark Rollings who took his girlfriend to one in Stockport for her 21st. She loved it and you loved it today as well didn't you love?" - his wife, bloated, nods her appreciation - "and speaking of Rollings - I saw him driving through the Miss Millie's drive thru earlier. I'd put me life savings on him being next Leicester boss if I were you!"

Really? Do you think that's a good choice?

No - I'm more of a KFC man myself but Mark likes to look after the pennies.

No - we meant is Mark a good choice as manager for Leicester?

Chuckles - "Oh - yes I do - it's obvious the chairman there like to save the pennies as well with that appointment but I reckon he could turn out to be a bargain!"

And will you be looking at moving clubs any time soon?

Not for a while - Wolverhampton is a beautiful city and I love the accent round here. Let's focus on getting promotion this season and then see what happens.

RE: Week 17

Newcastle manager Jamie Best spoke to FA Evo news after the weekends draw with Man City.

(Q) How confident were you going into the game on Friday?

(A) Well City were on a decent run of form and sat 4th in the table before the game so we always knew it would be a tough game but we were hopeful that we could continue playing the way we had been and grind out another result and we managed to do that. City had a couple more chances than us and could have won it but in the end i think it was a fair result.

(Q) Were you pleased with the performance of your team?

(A) Yes and no, i felt that we gave the ball away a bit too easily in some areas and thats not a good idea when the opposition has the likes of Adriano in their attack! But as i said it was a good point for us so we were pleased to get something for our efforts.

(Q) Any transfer news you can confirm for the fans?

(A) Obviously Maxi departed this week in the first part of a deal with Watford, i was disappointed to lose such a class player but we want to develop the team further and bringing in such a talent as Scotty Loach was really pleasing as i think he could be a superb goalkeeper for years to come. The second part of the deal will go through this week with one of our CB's leaving for Watford's talisman Fred who will replace Maxi up front. We have also agreed a deal to sell Kieran Lee, he hasn't had many games this season and we feel we owe it to the lad to allow him to develop elsewhere and get the first team action he craves.

(Q) Will there be much transfer movement before the window closes in just two weeks time?

(A) We have a couple of loan deals going through, one going either way just to help us out in midfield, we also have a swap for another of our CB's which will see us bring in a quality RM ready for next season, asides from that it's doubtful that i will be starting any more negotiations until the window reopens.

(Q) Do you feel the targets and pressures on you this season have been fair ones?

(A) Well obviously after losing my job at Genoa i was grateful for the chairman to give me the opportunity at Newcastle and the target was to achieve Premier League safety which i hope we can do in the remaining weeks, next season we want to push on up towards the Uefa Cup places so the pressure will be on to build a team which will be able to compete in all competitions, but i look forward to building a strong squad.

(Q) Do you believe silverware could be on the cards in the near future at this club?

(A) I think realistically we are looking to build a strong team first and then push for trophies, in the near future i think the only chance we would have of a trophy is in the domestic cup, but even that will be a tough ask when you look at the strength of the teams in the division, we will take it one step at a time and go from there.

(Q) How confident were you going into the game on Friday?

(A) Same as every match! Confidence always booming, never know whats gonna happen!

(Q) Were you pleased with the performance of your team?

(A) Thrilled to bits, we dominated for 80 minutes, the last 10 minutes felt like a loss.

(Q) Any transfer news you can confirm for the fans?

(A) Nothing at all.

(Q) Will there be much transfer movement before the window closes in just two weeks time?

(A) Nothing even considered so far.

(Q) Do you feel the targets and pressures on you this season have been fair ones?

(A) Yeah, the club dropped its targets when I started my first full season so im pleased that we are sort of exceeding expectations.

(Q) Do you believe silverware could be on the cards in the near future at this club?

(A) Cant see a reason why not!

Press conference at Walker Stadium

                              Press conference at Walker Stadium

Leicester Chairman, Steve Jenkins, spoke tonight at a hastily arranged press conference following a meeting of the clubs board. It transpired that the meeting was to put in place final agreements on their new managerial signing.

I would firstly like to thank the coaching staff for their work and commitment in motivating the players during our period without a manager. I would also like to thank the various managers who had expressed an interest in the position at Leicester City. Though I am grateful for their interest we feel that the successful candidate, Mark Rollings, brings a particular combination of experience and talent which is well suited to the long term ambitions of the club.

I have been pleased to fly in from Italy today in order to complete the deal personally and have been able to assure Mark that Juventus are happy to continue our player exchange programme and to advise where required on the continuing growth of the club, hopefully one day in the future Juventus and Leicester will face one another in the European Cup Final.

Mark is currently meeting the players and coaching staff but on behalf of the Leicester  City Board I would like to welcome Mark to the midlands. I am sure the Leicester fans will give him their full support and that he will continue to steer us towards the position and status that such a club deserves.

Mr. Jenkins waved away further questions from the press and referred them to an official statement being handed out by club staff.

Leicester City Press Conference

Rollings lands at Walkers Stadium

Welsh boss Mark Rollings was yesterday confirmed as the new manager at Championship outfit Leicester City after long-winded speculation results in the manager signing a three year contract with the Foxes. Following yesterday's welcome from Chairman Steve Jenkins Rollings outlined his excitement over his new post.

"It is fantastic to be back in England, and great to join such an ambitious and forward thinking club. My best times in management have come in this country and with everything in place here I anticipate that continuing to be the case. The club has grown tremendously over the last couple of seasons, and the challenge of making Leicester City a sustainable Premier League outfit was too good to turn down."

With Rollings taking charge for this weekends crunch fixture against promotion rivals, and ex-employers, Everton there will be no time to ease in gently in his new position and Rollings issued an early rallying cry to his new players.

"It's quite ironic that our main promotion rivals are two of my ex-employers, and both Everton and Coventry have strong squads. However the challenge is there for us to achieve Premier League football this season and we must attack that proposition head on. It is a time for characters to come to the fore and everything the chairman and assistant manager tells me indicates we have those characters within our ranks. Our game this weekend against Everton will have a massive say on who goes up this season and we go into the game with confidence and belief."

Finally, with time ticking on the transfer clock Rollings gave his views on possible additions before the window slammed shut.

"The transfer policy at the club is slightly different to anything I have been used to before, but works perfectly for what both the chairman and I are trying to achieve. We have both agreed set targets and I believe Steve (Jenkins) is working hard to work out a way of getting them here. Under no circumstances will I be giving any names until they are here posing in-front of press in a Leicester shirt though."

This week the opening round of the season 8 youth tournament was played out at Napoli's Stadio San Paolo. The stadium was packed to the rafters with 26,000 mostly Italians turning up to watch the whole group stage played out for them. In a festival of football the matches were played out back to back giving fans more than their moneys worth and some thrilling games to boot. The highlights have to be performances by impressive looking Aston Villa who started off as the favourites to lift the trophy for the first time. All the details of the group stage matches can be found now in the managers office under Youth Tournament.

Any player with a * after their name is a player contracted to a club, and part of their youth academy. Players playing without a * after their name are only there to make up the numbers for this tournament. This system is carried across the results information so you can see how the contracted youth players are performing in each game.

PRICE BEGINS NEW CHAPTER IN MANAGEMENT

SSN Mr Price your first game as Atalanta this week against Cagliari are you excited?

DP To say Im excited is a understatement I have been looking forward to this game since I got the job just want to get started and started with a win would be good.

SSN Looking at the run in to the end of the season you have is getting in to the top 2 out of the question?

DP No I dont think it is I feel we have a very good young squad and a good run it where I feel we can get a few wins. We are 99.9% sure of a play off place and you never know what will happen in the play offs.

SSN Do you have any transfers sorted for this week?

DP We have one loan done and I want to thank Middlesboro manager Gareth Gardner for helping me out with centre back Matthew Bates joining for the rest of the season. I think he will be a good addition in a position that we are struggling in. We are also working on bringing in a couple more players this week with the deadline fast approaching we want to make sure we have the best squad available for the end of the season run.

SSN This is your first job in Italy and a bit of a step back from your last job what do you say to people who said you deserved better after your sacking by Recreativo Huelva?

DP Yes it is a little bit of a step back but looking at the project long term I think it was the best move for me I have a long term contract here with chances of good bonuses should we do well. The club have made me feel very welcome here and I am so proud that the chairman has broken the bank to get me here by giving me such a long contract and making me one of if not the highest earner in Serie B I want to repay his faith buy doing well.

SSN Speaking about the chairman it has been said that you had an agreement in your contract that he would go out a sign a player in a position you wanted and loan a player in the position you wanted is that true?

DP Yes that is true and I am very happy with the two players he have got for me with ST Cacau and CM Micheal Johnson. Cacau is a very good striker who I think will do really well linking up with Scott Sinclair. We now have a strike force that teams in Serie B will be scared of.

SSN Thank you for your time today Mr Price.

DP No problem

Zhu Targets Success

The new chairman of Lazio has moved quickly to make a statement of intent to the fans of his new club Lazio. With 5 games left of the season Lazio are struggling 5 points adrift of safety in 10th place in Serie A. Their aging squad has struggled to remain fit to hold consistency but Zhu Jun seems intent on ringing in the new era with plenty of changes.

"Lazio is historically a big club, they have huge prestige and the fans here are great but they deserve more than just a trip down memory lane every time they want success. I want to take Lazio back to the big time, delivering them to a stage they fully deserve to play at. Italy is a country in a process of rebuilding and if we move swiftly we can capitalise on this and jump ahead of a lot of our competition. I want to reassure fans that even though they can expect a high turn over of playing and coaching staff in the very near future, any changes I decide to make will be in the best interests of this football club."

Zhu Jun then cut his press conference short citing pressing matters to attend to concerning immediate personnel changes within the club.

Jackie Yeo committed to stay till end of season

On Saturday, Spanish media approached Villarreal manager regarding about his future.

Media: Recently, there had been news reports linking you to clubs in England and Italy. So have you received any contract offers from any of them?

Jackie: So far... Yes.. And I had just rejected a contract offered by Watford a few hours ago.

Media: Watford is currently in the middle of the Premiership table and has good and quality young players. They also have the chance to qualify for UEFA cup next season. So what's your reason for rejecting the offer? You are not pleased by the contract offered by Watford?

Jackie: The contract offered by Watford looks excellent to me. But I still have one unaccomplished job to do in Villarreal. That is to bring Villarreal back to La Liga. So for now, my focus is to stay in Villarreal and win all the remaining matches. My target is to get Villarreal promoted this season.

Media: But your contract is coming to an end. So what's your plan after the season?

Jackie: I will be happy if Villarreal offers me a new contract. But if they want me to leave, I will be very disappointed. Nevertheless, if that is the case, I have to move on...

Media: Thank you for your time and I wish you all the luck for the future.
