Just an idea, but wouldnt it be better if released academy players went into free agent list

Yes GG, except people would use that to get around paying for players, and the 'little clubs' would moan because someone like Chelsea could release an academy player then sign them for nothing and as a top team they'd almost always get the player. They may be introduced week 5, but at a cost for half value or something.

Fair point as much the same might possibly happen in real life

But if people took more of a long term view last season they would already have their own youth academy and the chance to promote / release their own players?

I like the idea though - provides a good chance for lower league clubs to bid on players not of interest for the bigger boys

You could also possibly snag a bargain if the club releasing the player misread the signals and let go a player with real potential

Couldnt we just have a rule that stated the releasing club cannot resign the released player?

That would eliminate any 'cheating' to not pay for players
