Rollings looks forward to Pompy cup test

Leicester City and Portsmouth are familiar foes this season, with the two clubs currently occupying the promotion places in The Championship in the race for Premier League football. However, tonight the two sides will renew their league rivalry with a place in the semi finals of the domestic cup the prize for the victor. Portsmouth will go into the fixture as slight favourites, given their unbeaten league form and early season win over their opposition, but it promises to be a fascinating affair with both managers praised for their attacking philosophies. Speaking ahead of the encounter Foxes boss Rollings seemed in good spirits.

"It certainly promises to be a tasty encounter. Portsmouth have been pretty much unstoppable in the league this season and it seems to be an inevitability that they will be playing Premier League football next year. We obviously hope to join them but tonight will be an enjoyable break from the league pressures. We want to progress, and I know Alex Wilson will to so it should be a cracker. We are really looking forward to it!"

Much press speculation had centered around Pompy boss Wilson's apparant dismissive attitude towards the team just below them in the league, and it wasn't surprising that Rollings was asked about the comments that his opposition boss didn't see he side as a threat in the league.

"Well Portsmouth are now 7 points clear of us in The Championship, and 9 clear of third so I don't really feel the need to have major issues with his comments. Portsmouth have had a great season and good luck to them. The fact is that whether or not Portsmouth see us as a threat is not a determinant of whether we get promoted or not so I don't have any major issues about his beliefs in that respect. If we do the job this season and get promotion I will be a lot more interested about whether or not Portsmouth see us as a threat next season."

Finally Rollings gave reaction on his teams 4-4 draw against fellow promotion chasing Aston Villa, a match where his side led 4-1 after 60 minutes.

"It is obviously disappointing to concede a lead like that, but if you look at the match stats I think it would be difficult to say Aston Villa didn't deserve a share of the points. We can't be too disheartened as we have scored 4 good goals against a good Aston Villa side. The result also keeps us in-front of them so we continue to push towards our goal of promotion. Martin Turney is an excellent manager and whatever happens between our two clubs I hope we are both promoted from this league."

Cadiz Quarter Final

Cadiz travel to Athletic Bilbao tonight for a quarter final that few will expect them to win. However, Bilbao manager Jonnie Adams is missing a few players in defence which may mean a reshuffle for the La Liga team. But the bookies still favour Bilboa over the Cadiz minnows. But then again few thought that Cadiz would make it this far in the cup this season.

Cadiz have a large travelling support and have taken their full allocation of 5,000 seats for the game. It is also being shown live at Cadiz's Ramon de Carranza stadium for those who could not get tickets for the game.

SIENA PRESS CALL

 Siena  News

It has been a few weeks now since the Siena manager, Terry Manifold, has agreed to be interviewed. He had made it clear that he thought that having a high profile is alright if things were going well, but to be open can lead to looking foolish.  Since his silence and the general lack of publicity the Club gets nowadays the team's form has improved.

On Monday night the press were allowed to attend a special evening at the ground but the manager was not in attendance.

The Press Officer at the club welcomed all to the meeting and invited questions from the floor.

PRESS

Have you the necessary players to gain promotion this season?

P.R Officer

I can assure you that the managere has been very busy chopping and changing the side in order to get a mix of youth and experience. Wes Morgan and Cesare Rickler are two good examples of blending experience into the side. If all goes well this weekend you will see LB Doran leave the club in exchange for Antonio Durban Sanchez.  This move along with the signing on loan of Pasquale Luca strengthens the left side considerably.

PRESS

Is the manager pursuing any more signing?

P.R Officer

I think it is fair to say that Terry never stops seeking improvement to the side.He has made enquiries to several clubs over this past week and quite frankly he has hit a brick wall. There doesnt seem to be any interest out there at all. I am informed that more than 10 managers have not even replied.

Fans expect showcase victory

Portsmouth fans have been delighted with the league success but tonight is a chance to turn that into cup glory with only 3 of the remaining teams playing their football outside the top flight. The only 2 remaining Championship teams will go head to head for a place in the semi final of the English cup  and both teams are raring to go. As the Leicester coach pulled up to the front of the stadium ahead of kick off we caught a few words with the Portsmouth manager outside the home team dressing room.

'I hope tonight is a spectacle. People should appreciate the good things on offer in the Championship this season and an all Championship tie in the quarter final of the cup is a perfect moment for this. We might not be the best or most popular league but we have things to show off and I'm confident my team selection and Marks team selection will give great accounts of themselves. I'm sure Mark won't just turn up and park the bus hoping for penalties.'

The South East newspapers all agree with Mark that Portsmouth will go into the match as favourites. The Portsmouth fans turned up early to give an unfriendly welcome to the Leicester players as they got off the coach and parts of the stadium have already been filled with fans eager to show their support and cheer their team into the semi final.

'The fans are up for it. The cup buzz has been felt by everyone here around the club. You can hear some of them already singing along to the stadium music so by kick off the noise will be spectacular. I accept what Mark said I think we go in as favourites but I personally relish this. Pre season the weekender had us at 15-1 5th favourites to go up. Leicester were 7-1. Coming into a quarter final as favourites shows how hard we have had to work this season. I would also like to remind Mark out of the people who tried to guess the top 3 only 5 predicted a Portsmouth promotion and 12 said we wouldn't go up. Only 1 out of the 17 managers to try and predict the tables yes only 1 said Leicester wouldn't get promoted. We are living proof in the league that we can handle being underdogs. Now it's time to prove we can handle the weight of expectation as favourites too.'

The rumour on the Portsmouth and Leicester message boards this week has been about a new track being played specially for this match as the teams run out on to the pitch. Alex did want to put the record straight so to speak and told us the rumour it would be Rebecca Black 'My moment' were actually untrue. This reporter for one is very relieved at this news.

Lazio get stern reminder!

Sky sports Italia caught up with Ray Farnell after his sides cup visit to the Old Lady........

Ray, a glut of goals and Lazio out of the cup what are your thoughts?

We tried to match them and counter but we are talking about Juventus and the amazing squad that Steve Jenkins has brought together over the years.

The result is not a shock but a reminder of where we are and how much work we need to put in if we want to compete on such a level.

Steve is a top manager and we have spoken a few occasions this season regarding topics of mutual interest and quite frankly I hope they go on to win the trophy.

Any negative vibes?

None what so ever, we will go away and concentrate on joining them next season in Seria A.

On a positive note Lazio made it to the quarter finals and the club has not competed at such a level for a number of years so we move forward with open eyes, always looking and always learning.

Farnell and his team climbed on the team coach clearly with lessons to learn but only time will tell if this Lazio outfit can make it to the promised land and maybe one day give Jenkins and his superb team a run for their money..............

Radford Graceful In Defeat

After seeing his side crash out 3-2 to Sheffield Wednesday, in what was viewed as an evenly fought Domestic Cup Quarter Final, this is what United manager Craig Radford had to say;

"Tonight just wasn't meant to be for us, we played well, but Sheffield Wednesday played better. Rob (Holden) has done a fantastic job since arriving, and he has taken 3 Premiership scalps, Manchester City, Spurs and now us, in this Cup run of theirs. Although their win over us will be viewed as an upset there is no shame in losing to them at all. Despite them being a League One outfit, we fully respected them going into the game, as they have an awesome array of talent right throughout their squad. With our busy fixture schedule, we had to rest Ribery and Vukcevic as I was slightly worried about their fitness. They were both only at 80%, so we couldn't have risked playing them. However, if they had that extra 10%, there would have been no doubt in my mind they would have started last nights game. I suppose it will be seen as an error, but then this is football. We should be used to Cup upsets in this day in age. We will watch the videos to see where we went wrong and where they went right. We shall continue to work hard on the training field as we have done so far this season, and prepare for the tough encounter on the weekend against Liverpool. As you are all aware, I started my managerial career at Sheffield Wednesdsay, and although there has been alot of change in terms of the Chairman since I left, I still have a little affection for the club and regularly check their results. So I just want to part by saying that I hope Rob and his side make it to the Final and go on to win it. With the squad he has and the financial backing of the Chairman, I fully expect to see them fighting it out with the big boys in the Premiership come the end of next season. Thanks"

Gallant Cadiz go out

Manager JD Jaques said his players did what they could, as Cadiz failed in their bid to extend their dramatic run in the Spanish Cup.

"I am very proud of the players. They did a fantastic job especially in the first half. The Bilbao crowd booed their own players off at half time, and to be ahead at that stage was fantastic. We just couldn't hold on and once the first goal went in the tide had turned. We have a young squad and the experience of this cup run will bode well for the future. I haven't had a chance to speak to the chairman but I hope that he is proud of our overall performance. Despite the extra games this run has meant for us, the players are still fresh and we now look forward to making a push for the playoffs."

Cadiz fans watching at their Ramon de Carranza stadium held their breath once the Segunda team had scored early in the 8th minute, and this lasted through till half time in a first half dominated by the Segunda team. But the dream was not to last, and they conceded 6 goals after half time to lose 6-1.

Napoli Battle On

Some might say that Andy Fletcher and his Napoli squad have faced adversity before, having been promoted last season through the play offs, but the clubs first season back in Serie A is proving equally as testing.

Fletcher said " Yes its tough, every week we work hard to ensure we get something out of the next game, we are the draw specialists this season but with only one win under our belts we desperately need another couple of wins. If we drop down I'm sure we will be in a great position to take stock and start again but our obvious aim is to stay where we are, this is where we feel we belong."

Fletcher was asked about his own ability to manage at this level and his plans for the future.

"My contract runs out at the end of this season, at the moment there is nothing else on the table so its down to the chairman really, Ive been approached but at the moment I would like to stay where I am and see this club start pushing in towards the top of Serie A, become established and perhaps push our cup runs a bit further.

Palace Reject Approach For Shelvey

A statement given to BBC 5 Live from a Crystal Palace employee has admitted a bid has been recieved for Shelvey but it has been rejected. The club are thought to have been disappoint by the offer from a supposedly bigger club and has urged any team interested in buying a player to do their homework to avoid offering less money than the club paid. "Why would we spend 2 years training a player and sell him for less than we paid for him? When a free agent was offered as a sweetner the agent looked as perplexed as we did. Bigger clubs still need to respect us smaller teams when they make an approach for our players." The statement once again confirmed Shelvey was available to loan following a successful loan spell at Parma this season and said the player and the club had no interest in a permanent deal at this stage in his developing career.

Bolton manager Ashley Davies agrees with Seb Carter’s latest outburst

Earlier on, Crystal Palace manager Seb Carter spoke out about high profile managers trying to get players on the cheap, under estimating smaller teams.

' Im no stranger to dodgy offers, I receive weekly petty offers and they may have point to try and pick up a decent bargain but not when it concerns your best players, some offers are testing the waters but some take the piss! '

I think he just did!

And I think you just did as well!

I don't mind people looking for bargains but just do a bit of research. It would take 2 minutes to find how much I paid for the player or to find out if the player joined the team before the manager did.
