Week 20

Wolves manager JD Jaques gave a press conference following his sides draw with Bolton at the weekend.

Wolves robbed....its hotting up at the bottom of the Championship

"I normally do not discuss referees, but we were robbed by him today. We had a perfectly good goal ruled out and it is not clear why. The referee won't tell us why he ruled it out, and it is mystifying. To be honest we should have got the win because I lost count of the number of times we hit the woodwork. But fair play to Bolton they drew level soon after we scored. As well as the referee I don't understand the man of the match award to a Bolton player. Although they got hte draw they weren't in the game for the majority of the second half. Kim Seo Peng was my man of the match. The young kid played out of his skin and got his goal. It was a superb shift he put in."

"Reading managed to win this week which lifts them virtually out of trouble. We had thought that it would be a fight between us and them for who goes down. You'd expect them to lose against Sheffield Wednesday this week, and we then play them in the final game. But we have Sheffield United in our sights. They are only 3 points above us but we have a much better goal difference. They face Bolton and Blackburn, which are tricky games. If they slip up I would expect us to take full advantage. That is not something I would have been saying a few weeks into the season when we were bottom of the league. But we are playing well and have been unlucky not to win our last 3 games. Hopefully West Brom won't overtake, us although they do face Coventry so could get 3 points in their last game."

"I'd like to thank all the managers who have helped us out with loans this season, and deals particularly Ray at Lazio throughout the season, and Adam at Barca who has recently loaned us Routledge who is settling into the team for the run in."

Siena  News

The Siena manager, Terry Manifold, is looking forward to yet another crack at the Play-off matches. The season has gone reasonably well with more than a little help from the five loan players currently at the Club. It is not what Terry wanted, I am told, but it has brought the Club to the play-offs for another attempt.

 PRESS

You have the play-offs in the bag. Where does it leave the rest of the season?

 TERRY

Ticking over. That is all we can do now. Keep players fit and healthy and focussed on the prize at the end of the season. Promotion.

 PRESS

Looks a tricky one this weekend?

 TERRY

You could say that. I am still not sure how to play it. We could go for it and have the psychological advantage over Atalanta or we could keep something up our sleeve for the finals. I have noticed their manager is playing it very cagey and not giving anything away. I have heard he has backed us to win this weekend. It will be all about holding your nerve and not taking your eye off the ball.

PRESS

Can you afford to lose this week?

 TERRY

Oh yes. It is not about this week. This week is a non event.

 PRESS

Will it be this year then Terry?

 TERRY

This is the best chance I have ever had to win promotion. Win or lose it is great. The future is up for grabs.

Foxes up for relegation fight

Leicester City manager Mark Rollings has vowed his side are up for the fight, as they stare down the barrel of a potential relegation. The Foxes face Middlesbrough and Arsenal in the remaining two games, knowing they must better Tottenham Hotspurs points tally by three points to allow their superior goal difference to save them from the drop. Rollings has kept faith with his young stars this season, trusting them to deliver survival despite their inexperience at this level, and will be hoping his trust is repaid over the next 180 minutes of football.

"We have refused to panic and sacrifice the fantastic pool of young talent we have here in an effort to guarantee Premier League safety. The success of Leicester City is built on firm foundations developing young talent and whatever happens our squad will be better for this experience, and be stronger next season. This season has seen us further develop the club with the building of an Academy, a personal investment I have made in this club, and bring in the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Carlos Garcia and Gaetano Bernardi. The Chairman has continued his fantastic investment in the club and we are still moving in the right direction, although we now obviously need to step up and try and beat the drop."

Asked about his future at the club should his side lose his battle against the drop Rollings seemed unclear as to what may happen.

"It is probably a question you will have to ask the Chairman! I certainly wont be walking away from the job should we end up back in The Championship but we have an open and honest relationship and should he feel the club would benefit from a change in leadership that is his prerogative. Should I leave Leicester City I would have to have a long think about where my future was in the game, as this has been a long standing project of mine now and it would be difficult to start again perhaps. I know there were press rumblings linking me with the job to Palermo earlier this season but as I stated many times I have no interest in a job like that."

Finally Rollings gave his thoughts on the upcoming tests against Middlesbrough and Arsenal.

"I am sure they wont mind me saying that I am happy to be playing sides at least out of the top 2 or 3 in the league. In many respects it could have been harder but both have done exceptionally well to get where they are this season and in that they will be extremely tough tests. Gareth has built Middlesbrough up to be extremely tough to beat and Jamie has arguably developed one of the brightest young squads in the European game. We look forward to the challenge but give both clubs maximum respect."

Italian Domestic Cup

The ITALIAN DOMESTIC CUP.     The Final

Sampdoria  v  Genoa

The Italian Cup is now in its final stages. We started at the beginning of the season with 12 Serie B teams to which has been added 12 Serie A teams and now we are down to the two finalists. Sampdoria from the second Division of Italian football take on the mighty Genoa from the First Division in what should be a terrific battle that could go down to the line.

Carl Robsons Sampdoria have led the second Division all season and have scored a total of 52 goals. They have only let in 4 goals all season. Genoa, on the other hand, have scored an incredible 92 goals this season letting in 8. Both sides are at the top of their game.

Callum Ward is still smiling and it is my view that he will be still smiling after Monday night. In the last round, against my own prediction, they pushed aside Juventus. In a very evenly matched game Genoa managed to force the pace against the mighty Juventus in the cup match and managed to force a draw against them in the league match last weekend. This was no mean feat.

Sampdoria, on the other hand, forced 5 passed Reggina in what was a one sided affair. Agirretxe has scored 11 goals this season and if he gets the right service on Monday he will not miss for Sampdoria. Parejo for Genoa has bagged 20 goals this season and is on fire.

I am looking forward to an Italian fire cracker in the last round of this very special Italian Cup. The betting reflects the mountain that will need to be climbed in order for Sampdoria to lift this trophy.

Revised betting on the Cup.      Genoa 1-2   Sampdoria 4-1
