Utility Players

The previous idea had been to have two lines of ratings, one for each position, for utility players. If this idea is removed and becomes simply one line that applied to both positions then something would have to be put in place that takes away from the player to compensate for them being equally good in both positions.

Such an alternative could well be that it takes utility players longer to improve. If you vote for option 3 then suggestions as to an alternative measure can be posted in this thread.

Also, would managers want players to change into utility players (eg. End of the season Carragher becomes a RB/CB) or would managers want a say (eg. Liverpools manager can decide if Carragher changes)? This would only apply to players now, new youth players managers wouldn't have a choice on.

Richard.

If u go down the road of asking managers if they want any of their players to change to utility players, all fair and well every1 would agree Carragher is a utility player, but some may think they have utility players and u may beg to differ which may cause upset with some managers, or is it a case of any player can change to utility if asked, as Aimar to me could play anywhere in midfield and up front, Ronaldinho could play anywhere in midfield and up front, u may agree with Ronaldinho but disagree with Aimar, could it be that every1 has the option of changing 1 player to utility, in theory it sounds a good idea, with slower increases in rating, i just think u need to make it clear just now, how many per team, or is it ur final decision that will decide on who changes, i hope not coz u already know what i think of some of ur ratings.biggrinwinkfurious

I'll collect a list of players considered utility players by football stat-heads and what I'm asking is do these players automatically change to utility players or should managers get to see the list and say yes or no to their own players? Maybe the Liverpool manager doesn't want Carragher to lose development speed in favour of playing RB and CB...

I do doubt Aimar would be on the list.

Richard.

In this game there is a very clear large gap between the top clubs and small and i beleve it would be good to have a few versatile players however they should not go to larger club ie liverpools and barca and all that because the have much better spending power to replace player plus they are already great squads for example at the weekend i played against valencia great squad and that but i played super defensive i should have easily held out more goals i played 451 and got crushed it would be even worse if they get more versatile players how could smaller teams compete? Even if they an off day id still have have no chance.

Id personally love to see this implemented into the game as i think it will become invaluable to all managers regardless of club size

Id personally also like to see the positions and players affected be up to the manager - at least intially. Perhaps then FA or a panel of unbiast managers can double check the changes to players for fairness and then they can be implemented into the game

RE the point above - dont forget that the bigger clubs are normally fighting on 3 fronts of competition - so utility players will be useful to large and small clubs and doesnt increase the gap between superpower and minnow anything more than anything else

Second point is - S****horpe will never be as big as Real Madrid so lets not go overboard with the big versus small debate as if FA is to be realistic - this will always be somewhat prevalent sadly

Most of us that play the game are somewhat hardcore fans of a large number of clubs - surely we can get together with FA and decide who and how good certain players will be in certain utility positions?

Im not debating the fact that the bigger clubs will almost always win im debating the facts that in real life the bigger clubs dont always win and this has to be represented in the game

As the cup has shown already this season the better teams don't always win.

Utility players will be limited as theres a difference between playing in 2 positions and actually being equally good at them both. Managers are welcome to submit a list of who they think are utility player, maybe in a new thread in this section to keep them all together? The list can then be checked leaving a final group of players.

And I don't think Scun-thorpe had internet filters in mind when they named their settlement!!

Richard.
