When they are out on loan they could also stay listed on your own team sheet but be shaded out to show they are not available to play for you in current games but are still owned by your club. When they return from loan you just have the shading removed?

Only things with this is that the players would then appear on two team sheets, i.e the parent club and the club the player is at, this would mean the team sheets getting bigger. For example at the moment you could have a squad of 22 players, loan 5 out and that means you have 5 spaces in your squad to bring players in either on loan or permanent. If the players were just shaded out then your squad size wouldn't reduce as such, they would still take up a row on the team sheet and therefore would be no space which there is at the moment.

I agree with Besty I use the space created by loaning players out during the season then make space for them to come back at the end. This way I would be stuck with a squad of 14 for a whole season with the rest of the spaces filled by players out on loan. This would make the loan market dry up and small teams would miss out.
Simply increases the length of the squad rather than the width of the page which makes it easier to see. The main problem with adding extra columns means that you need to scroll across. Adding extra rows would mean you could still keep it to the one screen height.
Yor squad lines might show 27 but the "white" spaces would be the active squad i.e. active for you.
Colours shade loan players would also help the numbskulls who forget how many people are out on loan then lose players at the end of a season or similar when too many players for the spaces return.
